This software is not a game. A cross between a walking sim and a tarot card reading, TSOTG asks you to find 12 evocative dioramas and answer a single question : What do you see? Answer instinctively and receive one of five different endings and a final reading meant to stimulate self-reflection.

An interesting 20 minute experience that feels more like a rorschach test to me than a tarot reading though admittedly I know very little about tarot. The best aspects are the environment, the morbidly beautiful dioramas, and the overall vibes which are all quite intriguing. The personality quiz aspect is interesting and feels like a 3D version of Randumb Studios' The Test series, though I think the questions and responses you can give are too vague to really offer any insight and I didn't get much out of the final conclusion, which is something The Test series actually does quite well since the questions are more personal and direct. Still though, I love the whole aesthetic and having been impressed by I Make Saints it's clear Somewhat Software is a group to keep an eye on in the low-fi horror space.
I did not enjoy this game. But it made me think a lot. I don't know how I feel now. It's a good game. Buy it. Introspect.
Came for the sick ass atmosphere, stayed for the tarot reading. This game has a super cool concept, definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but it's right up my alley I love stuff like this.
"The Shape on the Ground" ist mehr experimentelles "Kunstwerk" statt ein echtes Game.
Granted, this one might not be for everyone. It describes itself as "a cross between a walking sim and a tarot card reading" but I rather think of it as a short, intense experience, unlike anything I've ever played before. I am quite fond of titles like these: highly vague, highly stylized, immersed in its own aesthetics. Not much in terms of gameplay but then again, it never claims to be a game at all. It's beautiful to look at, the atmosphere is utterly unique and it stayed with me for a while after I found all the endings. If you're looking for something special, this could be your cup of tea.
I find this game (I deny the denial of the game describer) difficult to recommend. The Dioramas are evocative and enjoyable but, the provocative nature is reduced by having to immediately pick from a multiple choice question. understand this is in favor of the reading at the end of the game but it hurts the overall experience. If you are interested I recommend holding thought until the question prompts you otherwise you might experience my frustration and confusion as what I see is rejected and then forced into a different framework
