The Secret of Darkwoods is a decent first game by Rap2h. The reason why I think this game is decent is because the way it presents itself reminds me of the "Choose Your Own Adventure Books" by an interactive fiction standpoint in which I really like! What I mean by that is there is a decent amount of choice in this game in terms of how you can go about doing things in order to progress further in the story. However, When I first started playing, I was initially turned off by this game because of how slow the game starts out. However, I'm glad I stuck with it and beat the game as I like the freedom of choice within this game. I like how when I hit a roadblock in terms of not being able to defeat the main enemies in my quest, how the game lead me to complete side quests, which gave me money to learn powerful skills. This alone eventually lead me into different areas because I had acquired these powerful skills. In which, I was able to get more powerful and then be able to venture back and defeat the main enemies. Sure, I didn't have to learn any of these skills, but because I did it allowed me to gain more weapons, items, stats and even complete quests in interesting ways in which made the game more manageable for me in the long run. That being said, I think the biggest con to this game is the main story. I thought the story was pretty decent and I enjoyed how the story progressed throughout the game. Although, I can see why some didn't like the story as the story is basically your a guy who has amnesia that finds out that your the chosen one and now you must save this world from an "Evil King". However, the AI that was used to illustrate the main story as well as the side quests was pretty nice and I always enjoyed seeing what AI imagery was going to be used for each quest. Additionally, the music was also pretty good and made you seem more engaged with the setting. I also really enjoyed how the battles took place as it was very similar to how real life "Fantasy Gamebooks" are in terms of taking your stats into play, when fighting against each of the many monsters you fought against. Although, I had to save scum quite frequently in certain parts of the game to make sure I didn't die and I got the outcome I actually wanted as sometimes some of the fights seemed a little too much RNG even if you did have good stats. Regardless, I give this game a 7.5/10! It's a pretty decent game to play if your a fan of choose your own adventure books, interactive fiction or even text based RPG's. It's a good first game made by an Indie Developer. Moving forward, I would like to see Rap2h try to improve the story of his games and make the story more deep as well as continue to make choices meaningful and continue to think of ways to combine player's choices with interesting skills to be picked up that can be used in the world in interesting ways in order to progress the plot.
A nice and fun adventure.
There really isn't much to this one, but if someone is going to offer a free RPG, there's no downside to poking around at it.
I like these type of games, this one is not that exciting and it feels soulless. Boring dialogue, AI Generated images (would be alright if the story was as well, but it's already a written story with an end). Some people seem to really enjoy it though so at least give it a shot, it's free after all.
i really enjoyed this game. story isn't painfully lore-expansive like Lord of the Rings. names make good sense. places all make sense in relationship to each other. fights are unpredictable and fun. (ya boy was collecting precious rings like Sauron.) Graphics are fun, music was a great addition. PG-13 at the worst and that's only the description of wounds in the fight. i would play it again. as a matter of fact i will. PLEASE BUY THIS GAME SO WE CAN GET MORE.
A fun engaging game, I found it easy to imagine myself in the lore of Darkwoods, and I found the traditional RPG game-play easy to navigate but also fun to engage with.
Very enjoyable game! I love the flow, the map, dialogue, illustrations, and music. Save your progress often. Hope the creator of this game makes more games in this style. Loved it and it was FREE :O!!!
