A legendary arcade game developed by Dimps in 2005. This fighting game gained popularity for its smooth visuals powered by S.M.A as well as the high level of strategy driven by its 2-gauge system. And with the addition of new current-gen features it's even easier to play.

classic fighting game, 2000 style, great game
Please ignore the old and dated negative reviews. Any issues or problems with this game were fixed a long long time ago. It was made by DIMPS which was formed by older SNK and Capcom developers who helped create Street Fighter, Fatal Fatal, KOF, and other games(Street Fighter 4). This game is too good. From the music, art style, & with one of the best gameplay systems(in my opinion). Please give it a chance it's a great fighter.
cool game and the port seems to work properly now
f%$%Ing beatrice, the last boss is nearly imposible to beat if your a regular gamer even on normal, its pointless to play in arcade mode, the gameplay is cool, if only has a more balanced boss, first time i rage quit in a game after i lose 40 times in a row. i just hate unfair games
Even the gallery mode is lacking a lot, I will prevent every person in existence to purchase this game, a real crime after several years of waiting
Great game in terms of gameplay. I love Arcade mode. The problem is there is no option to minimize the window and the games does not capture on Twitch Studio so its impossible to play and stream.
(EDIT 1/5/2024 - Changed to Positive) I'm glad to say that finally, with the addition of sidebars, all of the big outstanding issues with this port have been solved. I would now fully recommend playing this game via the Steam port for any fighting game fan. The lack of an expansive story mode or anything of the like might still be a sticking point for a casual fan, but it's a truly excellent fighting game finally done the justice it deserves. Bonus points to 3goo for their more recent communication not having the same condescending tone as they did initially. Their developer response on my review got my hopes up, and they delivered in full. My original negative review as of 7/13/2023 is left mostly intact as follows below, but **please keep in mind that many of these older issues have been addressed!** For instance, TRF1 is now available on Steam with online play, as a better port than the original LRG-exclusive port, and you can now play on keyboard if you so choose. ===== An update launched that addressed some of the many issues. Crucially, the online play appears to have lobbies now, fixing what is probably the biggest overall problem with this port. Additionally, the original 4:3 version's wall distances are now available in the options as "combat range: short" but with no sidebars, still displayed in 16:9, with bizarre invisible walls following the characters around. Not ideal, but at least the resolution concern was acknowledged in some way. But the fact is that resolution issues make this a straight-up useless port for competitive players, and the premium price point (with chunks ripped out and sold as DLC) make it a poor choice for casual players. On top of that I don't have a lot of faith in the developer of this port, and I'll tell you why. To any longtime fighting game fan, every issue with this port is something we'd already learned from the history of the genre. We've HAD wack ports with problematic widescreen modes and even ones that behave like this port's new "short" option, way back in 2008, and they were all rightly derided every single time. The developer's messages addressing all the patently obvious shortcomings of this port are transparent lies covering up "we made this on the cheap and we knew it wasn't gonna be a big hit so we're gouging the ones who do buy it." See also: porting TRF1 as well without any new features, but locking it away behind the purchase of a Limited Run Games collectors edition. See also: not having keyboard controls because they wanted to "preserve the arcade feel." See also: ripping out characters to sell as DLC because it's just like when the arcade operator had to put in codes to unlock the bosses. TLDR, as I see it, the market for porting an old fighting game that never came to the home market is two kinds of people: 1) hardcore fighting game fans who want to play it competitively, for whom this is useless. 2) casual fighting game fans, who would just be getting an barebones port of the arcade version. If it's fixed up to be useful for the hardcore fans, it'll still be overpriced and barebones. If it's not fixed, you're just being ripped off. Given how good the core fighting game here is and how little availability it's had historically, that's a crying shame.
The thumbs down is mostly because of the paid DLC that used to be free unlockables in the original version and... because this is the rumble fish. If you played The Rumble Fish+ and enjoyed it, go right ahead and buy this game. I wanted to give this the thumbs up because this sequel is 10 times better than the first one, no questions asked, despite problems with the emulation that the initial reviews were talking about that were later patched (problems that I never experienced btw), the combos felt way better than the first, it looks way better than the first, and I enjoyed it way better than the first... it doesn't change that this is just a more polished version of the prequel that I detest.
