It's an okay walking-simulator and not at all a horror game. The game is very repetitive where you walk to a serene area, climb some vines, read some books, get mana and break a seal. Rinse, repeat. There is a few hilariously bad "boss" fights. The graphics are nice at times but this game is way too bright and there isn't an option to turn it down. There were some nice music cues however. It's his best game for sure, but again it isn't much of a game.
GAME OF THE YEAR AWARD
The right game at the right price.
The label "walking simulator" has been thrown around quite a bit, but of all the games I have experienced this game feels like the pure textbook example. Moving from one large area with nothing do to, onto the next large area with nothing to do, promting you to just keep the run button pressed down as you make your way past the occassional braindead-easy puzzle, you quickly realize that this is the formula. That this is all there is. Arrive at an area -> find a chest with the next bit of story -> find a rabbit to gather mana from -> find the exit to the area that is covered by a forcefield where you must use your mana on a nearby tablet in order to make a picture appear that resembles the bit of story you just read. Lather, rince, repeat. To say there is no game here would therefore technically be a lie, but boy does it feel like it. The tablet "puzzle" is always the same, the animal you hunt for mana is always the same, and mana is only ever used to either banish forcefields, raise platforms, or fight off the occassion badguy that stands in your way with the worst fight mechanics I have ever seen in a videogame. Honestly, this feels like a beta idea for a game, at best. At the very least not a finished product. And yet I am baffled to scroll the reviews and see how many give the developer a free-pass on the grounds that "this is just the kind of games he makes". And sure, some games have a specific vision, and you shouldn't judge it as anything more than it tries to be, but aside from pretty visuals and an admittedly immersive soundtrack... there IS nothing here. And this isn't even Badur's first game? There are more games of this ilk which are allegedly shorter and even lighter on narrative? And people gobble it up? What am I missing here? All I know is that it's repetitive as hell, has little to no gameplay and even less variety in what little there is, the world is big and empty, and for the longest time you have no idea why you are even there. I am glad I got this at a sale for just under €2. Honestly it should be free, and no, I absolutely cannot recommend it.
Great game. I have played this twice. First time I played this game I loved it and was amazed by the graphics, the scenery, the weather (rain) (thunderstorms), it really made the atmosphere of the game. The story is done well through books you find along the journey which is interesting reading, although as its cursive writing some words are hard to read. The puzzles are pretty good with pulling levers in the right order in certain areas. There are a few combat areas where you'll take on a swordman in the castle areas and you have to pull magic from the enchanted rabbits and use your magic against the swordman. Good idea as it makes the game challenging. I was surprised that there is no achievements for find all the books, only for shooing away all the packs of crows. For those who didn't notice the achievement names are based on Tonguc's other games sucb as Crows of Nephise, Crows of Jim etc. Second play it fels like a slog going through the game for the 2nd time. I ran through most of it this time and somehow it still took me a while. Worth playing and worth getting when it's on special. There are 2 endings to this game but they are very short, so don't expect a 5-7 minute ending. The endings (good end, bad end) only go for like 10-12 seconds if that, and then there is the end after the credits too. Good game if you want to play something relaxing as walking through the environment is relaxing and nothing stressful. Get this game if it's on special.
It was truly... A game. I recommend on sale? It is unplayable without a controller . Very small passion project sort of game. I broke the game twice by falling out of bounds. Charming though.
A very compelling story, with stunning visuals as always! Of course, character animation is a bit rigid, but this is no AAA and you can't expect it from a one-man production!
