Warning: AI Slop This game is partially or completely made with talentless, soulless AI generated content.
"The Pyrite Talisman" is not a game. It's an advertisement for a product called "Telluria: Forebodings". Telluria: Forebodings is basically not even a game, this is advertising a Kickstarter for a game, so this is basically dodgy grift. And if you doubt me, go take a look at some of the garbage game concepts that people are trying to push on Kickstarter... I mean, you thought the ocean of shovelware from Steam Direct was bad, you ain't seen nothing yet. Taking it at face value it's just a bunch of low quality flipped assets and disgusting AI slop used to make the game UI... and of course, use of AI slop is never acceptable. Wading through all the flipped assets, godawfully badly made bespoke assets and AI slop, you'll find Tellaria: Prelude is shaping up to be one of the most badly made third person adventure games ever to insult gamers with the deplorably low quality. If it's ever made, it's guaranteed to be garbage, although it seems like the primary intention is just to get a bunch of money out of Kickstarter then run for the hills. But this isn't completely relevant because this is not Telluria: Forebodings, it's just an advertisment for it, so it's not correct to try to review that completely distinct product. We must instead review this for what it is... an advertisement. If you enjoy advertisements, you can consume them for free on the web or on Youtube without needing to add them to your game library, download them, and then launch the advertising. It's impossible in a general sense to recommend people should do that over playing real, full games on Steam, and that applies here with "The Pyrite Talisman" too. Usually the purpose of these advertisements is to get you to shell out money to the developer to buy the full product, but the developer hasn't bothered actually making a product you can buy, leaving this as an advertisement for nothing. We must question what value this pointless advertising has for gamers... and the answer is "none". Due to the poor public response amongst gamers for this advertisement, it seems unlikely the developer will go on to make the full product. This is only free in the same way that adverts on Youtube and banner ads in your browser are. This is a game demo that's been dumped on Steam to advertise another Steam store page in the hopes of raking in some cash. Just because advertisements are free, doesn't mean they're worth your time. It's important to understand there's a formal process to create a demo/page for a game which hasn't been followed here: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/application/demos While it might seem like an inocuous mistake, publishing demos and advertisements as if they are full games is misleading and in some ways harmful. This advertisement is taking up marketing space and visibility that would be better made available to a developer that's done the right thing and created a full game. Instead, that visibility is given over to a demo/advert that's been published incorrectly and is polluting the marketplace. It's unclear if this mistake was made through incompetence or a deliberate intent to mislead gamers. Often developers may choose to incorrectly publish demo/advertisements as separate games as a cheap way to bypass paying Valve for marketing presence on the Steam front page, which may seem clever to them, but it's harmful behaviour and it's not good for gamers. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Advertisements and incorrectly published demos don't add +1 to your game collector count, they aren't full games. It's impossible for me to recommend this incorrectly published advertising spam to gamers, you deserve better than adverts.
Developer Response!
The developer has weighed in to inform everyone they didn't read the Developer Usage Rules for Steam "partners", or they deliberately ignored the part where Valve says:
Though it may be tempting, not every review needs to be responded to. A developer response will frequently draw more attention than the original statement, potentially turning a small issue into a much larger community discussion. It's also not a good idea to use this feature to refute customer opinions. Your direct attention can be seen as validation or a defensive attempt to silence your customers.
The developer breaches Valve's guidelines with a barely comprehensible, yet still offensive word salad. Given how much the developer loves AI slop I'm surprised this breach of guidelines didn't have AI slop in it too. The developer seeks to mislead gamers with this unwise and incriminating response. Let's break it down. The developer demands that because they are a "small team" that has no idea what they are doing, therefore they must not and cannot be criticized for producing bad products or behaving unethically. Wow, so being a small team is immediate immunity, huh? Wrong. Gamers have a right to know about bad products and shady developers no matter how big or small they are. The developers arrogance is an insult to gamers everywhere. The rest of the developers word salad is both complaining that he got caught doing the wrong thing and trying to defend his anti-gamer, morally and ethically bankrupt advertising while at the same time tacitly admitting everything in my review is correct, and gamers absolutely must be warned about this kind of thing. Now that you've seen the developers barely coherent, rambling, and self incriminating response, are you rushing off to the kickstarter he's advertising with this garbage AI slop? I hope not. Nothing in the developers pointless breach of Valve guidelines changes any of the objective facts of my review. My review stands unaltered. I cannot recommend this game to anyone.

An interesting little narrative adventure, without pretensions. The story seems rich in inspiration, and the characters are well-defined. There are also some tributes to other adventure games. Even the gameplay, which evokes two parallel realities whose clues intertwine across time, offers an interesting and original experience. It's certainly not a AAA game, and the graphics and some textures could be improved, but I think it's safe to give this unknown studio a try. After all, the game is free. Reading the previous comments, they may be referring to the previous version, as there's almost no AI, except for inventory images and a few graphic textures. It's worth a try.
