About
The untamed wilderness of Alaska is beautiful, cold, and unforgiving. As a high-profile fugitive on the run, this desolate landscape is your only hiding spot, with your dog as your sole companion. But in these woods, the peaceful silence is a lie. The environment is not just your hideaway—it is the hunting ground for something that belongs here more than you do.
"The Pale Mimic" is not an infinite survival game; it is a linear, narrative-driven horror experience with a definitive beginning and end.
Your cabin is your only refuge, but safety is an illusion. On most days the core of your existence is hunting large game just to survive a little longer, with only brief respite at the cabin to plan your next move. On other days, the forest will have unexpected surprises for you.
When outside, the hunt begins.
When food runs low, you must venture into the frozen forests, where your dog is your guide and key to tracking anything. What starts as a simple hunt for game quickly turns into a struggle for survival. You will track, kill, and butcher large game, but this process is far from easy. As you stalk your prey, something is watching. Keep your wits about you, lest the hunter become the hunted.
You must bring the meat back to survive, but the creature is waiting for you to turn your back on the woods. It is fast, strong, and relies on a terrifying form of mimicry to lure you out. As a stalker, it prefers to avoid direct confrontation. It might mimic your dog’s whine to make you open the door, the sound of prey to trick you, or a familiar voice to lure you into a trap. Out here in the middle of nowhere, imitation is the highest form of horror.

I really liked this concept - as a massive fan of the thing. The quality of the animation, models and lighting was very good, and I bought this game because I thought all of these things looked very impressive. Where the game falls short would be in the gameplay itself as well as how the story is presented to us. Firstly, there were many missed opportunities for our survival routine to have. it rather than point a to point b to point c. I would've loved if we could've discovered areas ourselves, and the mc wrote things down on the map - to give us a general consensus on the location making the survival more challenging + horror inducing. I would've loved to have maybe the creature in the background sometimes, showing the stalking rather than the mc just writing that it is. The element of choice could've been heavily expanded on, and I would've really liked trying to guess if something was real or the mimic more often without handholding. Lastly, the story felt predictable and was unsure of itself at the end. I did not find all the hidden objects, but I would've liked more explanation on the mc's past, maybe the dream sequences could've have reflected that instead. Otherwise, I did enjoy this game and it creeped me out at times. Atmosphere was great, and has great potential. I would love to play a future game from this dev.
Loved this short but scary horror experience, even though the monster was not really scary, but the screams it made sent chills down my spine and made me jump almost every time, the dog actually made me feel safe and not alone, gave me comfort, like the cabin that was pretty cozy but still felt like i was trapped in there when the monster was right outside the door, was worth the money for sure
It's fun, some oversights in the game like there is no real danger when you're out and about except a few scripted sequences.
I rate this game a 7/10, well worth the low price if you're looking for a good light horror game. If you're looking for something game changing or revolutionary, then this really isn't the place to look for it. It's just good execution on an old concept. The story was concise and the game was (for the most part) bug free with the given exceptions of things like rocky often pathing directly in your way in narrow spots and causing you two to collide in weird ways. The graphics are easy on the pc while staying clear and minimally buggy with some general surface reflections and things of the sorts being funky. The music is good, and the slow burn tension is done excellently. The ui for some things like the map and the gun are overall very simple and easy to use. Now for the problems, which are few, but do affect the gameplay somewhat. For starters, the cuts between audio loops are very obvious, especially regarding ambient sounds. It's obvious that the dev's didn't intend for certain things to take as long as I may have taken to do them, but still, the audio of things like the forest ambience cutting out for upwards of a full second before starting over was often jarring and would take me out of the immersion. The audio balancing was very rough around the edges with the creature often being overwhelmingly loud to the point of me needing to take off my headphones despite, in other sequences, me needing to crank my volume up to hear certain character dialogue. In all, great quick game, very fun, very simple, and creative!
although the content is small(about 100mins),I love the dog with me in shelter, which gives me safety.
