This was a pretty decent game, albeit the bugs. I'd recommend waiting a little while before downloading it if you haven't already, as there are still a few bugs after the fixes were applied as of the timestamp of this review.

This is a short indie game that's mostly narrative focused. You probably already know if it's for you just by looking at it. If anything about it captivates you in the slightest, it's a cheap buy and a quick playthrough, sitting at about 2 hours total (my time didn't count the demo, which let me speed through the earlier sections). Like others have said, this is a game best experienced blind, although the warning at the beginning about caregiving gives a hint as to the direction of the story. That story is minimalist, matching the low-fi aesthetics and the confined nature of the map, but like with the map, it slowly unfolds and reveals new things as you discover the relationship between the protagonist character and her curmudgeonly grandfather, peeling secrets of the past both ancient and fresh enough to feel the aching scars, from the sands like the desert potatoes. And like those desert potatoes, they're raw and toxic. This is a story about hubris and stubbornness and wearing yourself down to please an ancient authority figure and it hurts. Not to play, the moment to moment gameplay of unearthing objects with a divining bell is quite nice actually, and if you're worried that the horror will be too much, there's very few, but effective scares. It mostly plays with being uneasy as you feel trapped in one spot with things as things get worse, and haunted by just how much of this could've been avoided if not for that already mentioned stubbornness. It's a captivating little glimpse into a world with just enough meat on it to reward you for poking further in the dialogue and the chapter select feature works well enough to help you finish out seeing a few missed opportunities. A couple of items you unearth are a little difficult to understand where they go, especially one which ends up on the edge of the map in an area that doesn't seem like it would be accessible, but most are fairly straightforward. Nuraga and the "Old Flesh" will probably haunt me for awhile and if you're in the mood for something like that, this one's fantastic.
