About

You’ve moved to Mush Meadows to recover from burnout from the city and working life. By selling all your belongings, you set out to start a new life closer to nature and buy a cabin that has been abandoned for a while. You discover that the cabin used to belong to a mushroom enthusiast, and they left their basket and unfinished journal there, among other things. It almost looks like they’ve just disappeared and when browsing through the journal, you notice some pages missing or unfinished...

Roam around the beautiful woodlands, find mushrooms, and use your Mushroom Journal to identify mushrooms by selecting the correct traits. Look for the characteristics of the cap, gills and stem, and remember: you may only pick mushrooms if you're 100% sure of them!

The small community of Mush Meadows relies on the mushrooms for food, trade and medicine. They welcome you, and are eager to help you, it has been a long time since an “outsider” was among them. Go introduce yourself, and you might find yourself on a journey of new friendships, fulfilling the requests of your new neighbors.

The Mushroom Journal was created as a student project within the duration of three months. We carefully crafted our concept, produced all art and audio for the game ourselves, and were able to deliver our project we're incredibly proud of.

Such a cute and simple game, but i got a little motion sickness when the game start laggy. Perhaps the pixel model could be simplified and adding option to adjust the fps, frame ratio and sound volume. Overall, it's okay to try this free game, the arts already good and has a cute NPC.
The game is wholesome, and yes, that’s nice - but the actual gameplay just isn’t fun. The map is very small yet poorly designed. You can walk through areas filled with trees, but movement feels extremely restrictive. You constantly bump into trees, have to shuffle slightly to the side, and then continue walking. What kind of exploration is that supposed to be? Some parts of the map do have proper paths, and when you’re on one, movement feels fine. The problem is that paths make up maybe one-third of the map. I don’t understand why a cozy, wholesome game needs to have such maze-like level design and restrictive movement. It sucks a lot of enjoyment out of the gameplay. I agree with the idea behind the game - leaving the city, living in a cozy cabin, collecting mushrooms, and enjoying a chill life. Unfortunately, the game fails to execute this concept in a fun or engaging way. It took me about 30 minutes to get all the achievements. 4/10

I love mushrooms, I love talking about mushrooms, and I love seeing a game where people can learn about mushrooms. :D For a student project this game feels very homey, the music while being a loop is soothing and satisfying to listen too. I personally enjoyed walking around "identifying" mushrooms for the characters quests, all while being an adorable deer girl! There are some issues like if you miss-identify a mushroom you cannot interact with it again until the next day. Another small issue but as there is no type of map, it makes things a bit difficult with finding where you need to go to complete a quest, or your way back sometimes for that matter. However I do believe what it brings to the table while small makes up for the little imperfections it has. Overall I love this game. While there is a disclaimer regarding the identification of mushrooms, i believe this is an adorable game that allows for anyone to jump in and enjoy while learning something new and beautiful. Definite recommend :3
short yet inspiring
'student project' tends to be the synonym for dumpster fire and this ain't the exception. can't save anytime, can't recommend, but it has plenty of other issues. could've been a decent mushroom-collecting adventure otherwise, no ticking clock or stamina either. nor any educational value, as the disclaimer on startup warns. though the journal has some basic shroom anatomy that I assume is accurate enough. looks fine but has a silent typewriter effect for text display, gotta spam space if you read faster than a 5-year-old. separate volumes, non-rebindable controls. wasd and undocumented arrows move (no sprinting), e interacts, esc pauses, mouse for journal activities. some of the text in the journal is pretty small and it can only be accessed by interacting with a mushroom. if you accidentally close it or don't identify the mushroom on the first pickup attempt, the shroom can't be touched again. so make sure to only click pick up when the button turns green, as I learned eventually. as I said, no ticking clock, but to advance time and get more chances at some hot mushroom action, you have to go home and sleep. no map to find your way though. nor could I sell the one mushroom I managed to picked up on the first day, so I went to bed, then tried the market again and this time got stuck there. and that's where I gave up. another item on the pile of lack of polish and attention to detail is esc bringing up the menu no matter what, but sometimes nothing can be clicked there because the already open window takes priority. and sometimes it works, so no consistency either. nor any commitment to fixing things, as they've already moved on, mere days after release. hopefully somewhere outside gamedev.

Very nice concept and cozy artstyle! Would be awesome if it were bigger and a little more sophisticated but it's fun as it is :}
The design is nice; the game has good base mechanics which have potential. Could add farming mechanics and a way to customise living spaces/characters. Could even have options to poison and kill npcs or something. Who knows. The problem right now is that there is no goal. You get the tutorial done and then after that the whole game is repetition with no purpose.
Absolutely wonderful!! A fun cosy and calming game with super cute visuals! I would absolutely love to see more!!!
