Reviews
I wanted to like this game, but there's so much that becomes frustrating. I don't think enough care was given to how much ammo you have compared to the mob frequency. To save ammo, I used my axe against things that probably would have been better to use a gun. Running away is not an option since the mobs stayed leashed permanently. Story-wise, it's not good, and any semblance of story I could learn was completely uninteresting with TTS voice acting. The infection is a questionable choice. There are pills to delay it, and a syringe that can cure it, but it seemed to be rare (I only found one) One-shot mechanics became a bit too common. First, there was Alter Ego, but she had to be in melee range. But then the nurse was introduced who could pop you from range. But to finally top it off. The alter ego fight was a joke. Her first hit against you removes 60% of your HP, which I don't think is intended. Not only that, but her ranged attack is completely unavoidable due to her teleporting to stay within range. To complete this fight, I needed to sit at that vending machine for several minutes until two syringes and a beer dropped. Complete pain. Finally, I'm not against store assets, but I play many indie games, and running around maps that have been barely altered is not enjoyable.
I was excited for this game but every time you swing a weapon, pick up an item or open a door, it goes from first person back to 3rd person. I also used the pop machine and the item menu stuck on the screen and there was no way to close it. so I'm running around with the menu open blocking 1/4 of the screen. I went to restart the game and even though I saved at the book, it started at the beginning of the level. that was in the first 20 mins. I think it needs more time in the oven before it's done. I'd wait until the bugs are gone
Bought it, completed it, and enjoyed it! After having recently finished both Cronos: The New Dawn and Silent Hill f, I needed something else to scratch the "survival horror itch" while waiting for Resident Evil Requiem, and having now spent a good 10-12 hours systematically plowing through every level in this game, it absolutely gave me my money's worth. The more I played and got accustomed to the specific imperfections of this game, the more I enjoyed it. Now, I went in being fully aware this game is created by a single dude (dudette?), and hence expected a certain level of jank and bugginess - which it _did_ deliver on, to be fair, haha, but mostly, the good parts far outweigh the buggy/frustrating elements - at least for me. I'm used to playing half-buggy indie games - even think it's a little charming, unless it's completely game breaking - so I might have a deeper acceptance for non-perfection than most gamers. Also, I'm mighty impressed with the amount of work that has been put into creating this game, and it's really cool that we now live in a time where a single individual can whip up something like this in order to share their vision with the world. Now, (some of) what I liked: - Enjoyable and varied levels / level design (especially from the hospital level and out, most of the levels were quite awesome, and provided the sweet, sweet third-person survival horror feel I wanted!). - Basically perfect length, methinks. - I liked all the items / ammo / coins laying spread everywhere; there's more than enough ammo if you're careful and aim well when killing baddies (I had almost 400 pistol bullets and 250 shotgun shells when arriving at the final boss - which was nice). - Good upgradability for both the player, item slots and weapons (especially enjoyed the ability to upgrade the shotgun with a grenade launcher alt fire). - Fitting atmosphere and decent allround music, sound effects / design. This game is clearly a product of love for the genre, and if you enjoy all the usual survival horror games, and accept a certain level of jankiness and some frustrating things you'll just have to adapt a bit to live with, then by all means give this game a chance. I'm glad I did. ____ TO THE DEVELOPER Now, here's a (not comprehensive) list of some important things you should fix to make the game even better - and after all the great work you put into this game, you _should_ fix this if you want it to be enjoyable to more people: - I didn't die a lot, so I don't know about most of the "save points" during the game, but at least a couple of them on the earlier levels did not work, which forced me to start the level from scratch when I died. I have very little patience in games when it comes to dying, so luckily, this didn't happen on the later levels, or else I'd probably stopped playing, no matter how much I enjoyed it. Hence, this should be fixed. - Items were mostly easy peasy to pick up, but _some_ were utterly impossible to grab and after hopelessly trying a multitude of different angles and whatever to pick them up, I had to simply give up. After analyzing this a bit, I reached a potential conclusion that the problem usually appears when items were placed in the back of vans / ambulances, or when they were otherwise placed on / in structures / objects in the level. Hence, it seems if you simply find all these items and increase the circumference of the overlap box, it should fix it (if that's how you've set up the items' ability to be picked up, of course). - The light she has fastened on her shirt doesn't move when looking areound when she's standing still. This is, of course, realistic, since the light's stationary on her shirt and is only moved when she herself is in motion; yet, to increase playability and minimize points of frustration, it's better that it always follows / points wherever the player is looking - and not only when she's moving (or aiming a gun). [ Edit after testing the updated version: The developer has now fixed this! ] - When getting hit by enemies, the "pulling up the weapon and aiming / shooting" function simply wouldn't work, leading me to getting frustrated because I tried to fire, but all the character did was wave the axe around, or nothing at all. This should be fixed so you always can depend on being able to fire. [ Edit after testing the updated version: The developer has now mapped the axe swinging to a different key, ensuring you'll always be able to fire the gun when you intend to. ] - The controls are totally fine with a keyboard, and to be fair, on Steam it says it doesn't support a controller. Even so, once inside the game, it _is_ possible to use a controller, and you can even see the button mappings in the Settings menu. However, the mapping is completely out of whack. For example, various actions are mapped on the different directions of the right stick, which, of course, also is the stick you use to look around with. This means you'll turn the flash light on and off if you look up - to name one of 'em. Either remove the controller completely, or fix it. It's absolutely best if you fix it, because many players (me included!) only ever play with a controller, and if I didn't enjoy the game so much, I would've dropped it as soon as I realized the controller was practically unusable. Simple fix, though: Just map the controller basically like any of the Resident Evil remakes, Dead Space remake, or any of those big 3rd-person survival horror games, and you're golden. Hell, I'll play the entire thing one more time just to experience it with a beautiful controller :) It's time I wrap up this novel of a review, but if you at least fix these things, it will do _a lot_ for the playability, and lessening frustrating things. All in all, the game runs butterly smooth, basically no hiccups or anything like that. The story is whatever, haha, but the gameplay is generally awesome, and I hope it'll get more attention as you keep fixing stuff. Great work, though, and thanks for the experience!
Fun game. The story isn't very deep and you can find out what it's about in the trailer but I still enjoyed it. The female characters are all very attractive with ai voices, which doesn't really bother me as I'd rather listen to that than read muted audio or a repeated phrase like in Yakuza. The developer, which I believe is a team of one, did a great job crafting unique scenarios/areas that felt different each time. You take on a subway, street block, village, hospital and a few other locations, all looking very visually appealing and open. The horror was well done, relying mostly on atmosphere and had some unsettling moments where you anticipate potential danger. There was only one jump scare and it felt unique and deserved. Survival horror wise, the amount of ammo you get is far too much and needs to be toned down. Especially since it makes one of the merchants later on completely useless and makes the game too easy. Enemy designs were very cool/creepy and the few boss fights, albeit not much of a challenge, were still a welcome edition. Game ran smooth and I experienced very few bugs. When I posted one about a particular respawn killing enemy, the developer responded and patched it within 24 hours. Think more people should try the game if the trailer intrigued you, which it did for me. I loved how it all played out and I hope this developer makes more games.
The stealth level In the barn was unique https://youtu.be/bBhDIiY4RlA?si=_cr0aWQMwTkqppgV
