The Lightbringer is a gentle and atmospheric puzzle-platformer from Rock Square Thunder, published by Silver Lining Interactive. Rather than relying on fast reflexes or punishing combat, it frames its adventure around a world swallowed by corruption and the guiding voice of a lost sister who urges the protagonist forward. The premise is simple but effective: you are tasked with purging the land of darkness by harnessing the power of light, navigating through a series of levels that combine platforming, light combat, and environmental puzzles. What sets it apart is not the scale of its systems, but the way it attempts to blend mechanics with a poetic, almost meditative narrative tone. Each stage of the journey is designed less like a gauntlet and more like a thoughtful puzzle box. Areas are filled with switches to activate, moving platforms to ride, and hidden collectibles to seek out, all tied together with a steady rhythm that favors careful exploration over constant pressure. The game encourages you to slow down, look around, and piece together how to progress rather than racing from point A to point B. Secrets are tucked into corners for observant players, and the design rewards curiosity by making you feel like every hidden nook has some purpose. While the puzzles themselves are rarely complex, they are integrated well into the environments, so solving them feels organic to the world rather than like stepping into isolated mini-games. Movement and control are straightforward, leaning toward accessibility rather than precision. The Lightbringer does not aspire to be a hardcore platformer filled with split-second jumps or punishing sequences; instead, it gives you enough mobility to feel capable while never demanding mastery of intricate techniques. For some players this approach can feel underwhelming, particularly if they come expecting the challenge of modern indie platformers that constantly test skill. For others, though, the gentler pace provides a welcome break from games that overwhelm with difficulty, making it approachable for a wide audience. Combat exists but plays a secondary role. Enemies are there to add tension and variety, but the encounters rarely escalate beyond basic interactions. It’s clear that the game’s heart lies in its platforming and puzzle-solving rather than in its battles. What carries the experience more than anything is the presentation. The world is rendered in a soft, painterly style, with muted tones and light-filled backdrops that create a sense of quiet melancholy. The guiding narration of the sister, delivered in verse, gives the game a unique narrative cadence that feels like listening to a storybook unfold. Combined with a delicate soundtrack, the atmosphere does much of the heavy lifting, elevating otherwise simple mechanics into something more emotionally resonant. Even when puzzles are basic or combat uninspired, the mood and aesthetic pull you along, encouraging you to linger in the world rather than rush through it. The Lightbringer isn’t without flaws, and they do stand out over the course of its runtime. Some levels feel a bit long for the simplicity of their mechanics, and the sparse checkpointing can lead to frustrating stretches when you misstep. The combat, while serviceable, never evolves in a way that feels fully satisfying, and seasoned platformer fans may find the challenge curve too gentle. There have also been reports of performance hiccups and crashes on certain platforms, which can break immersion in what is otherwise a serene experience. Combined with a relatively short overall playtime, these issues leave the game feeling more like a modest, self-contained journey than a robust or endlessly replayable experience. Even so, The Lightbringer succeeds in delivering what it sets out to offer: a poetic adventure that prioritizes mood, atmosphere, and thoughtful exploration. Its focus on light as both a mechanic and a narrative theme ties the entire experience together, and for players who enjoy slower, meditative platformers with a strong sense of place, it provides a memorable journey. While it won’t satisfy those searching for demanding gameplay or deep combat systems, it stands as a quiet, heartfelt game that values tone and simplicity over spectacle. For anyone looking for an intimate, contemplative adventure with a touch of mystery and charm, The Lightbringer shines in its own understated way. Rating: 6/10
Hard pass. OK looking game, but with a story written in awful rhyme, and very mediocre gameplay. Lots of bugs as well when jumping on mobs and being pinged off randomly, had to reload as the final boss fight glitched so it had huge lag/lockups, too.
A cute platformer collectathon, punishing enough for you to care about not failing the jumps.
Przeczytałem negatywne opinie o tej grze. Będąc przyzwyczajony do wyzwań, postanowiłem mimo to w nią zagrać.
