excellent
I bought it purely because it looks kind of cool in the videos on some social media platform. But in the end I didn't liked it. The only really good thing is voiceacting. It's really great - I loved it. The rest not so much. Almost every aspect is just bad enough to be repulsive: movement, handling, default keyboard layout, puzzles and minigames. Story revolts around being in Nier: Amazon warehouse edition working 25 years and then becoming a hero like Luke Skywalker whom proton torpedo didn't blow Death Star because it was faulty. I would bet that developers wanted this facility to look like Portal 2 decayed labs, but it was too low effort. Borderland graphic style is almost good, but low res textures are killing it. Everyday's mini game of "fetch" is starting to be boring even at first day when you are starting to hearing the same catch-phrases again and again. And you will need to do this around 5-10 times, so you will be border as ♥♥♥♥. The rest of mini games are half decent. I think this game should just be a rail-road game, like American Dream. It would be so much better this way.
It was surprisingly enjoying, nice story, good characters, good voice actors. Played it in VR which added a lot I think. Game mechanics aren't very deep, but the story got me.
[Valve index user review] The last worker brings an interesting idea forth of a middle aged warehouse worker but fails to deliver transforming it into a gaming experience nor compelling story. The quirks from the rainbow haired CEO to the humingbird quips were hit and miss for me, the writing ladeled with bacon fat thick dad humor. The voice acting is surprisingly well done. Good - [Accessibility] Option to skip to next level when 'Jungle' score/time objectives weren't reached - [Difficulty] Forgiving checkpoints in the story "stealth" sections - [Ending] Three "endings", although each a bit weird [spoiler]why is there 1 year gap?[/spoiler] Meh - [Setting] Live out a near retirement age overweight warehouse workers routine living inside a scrap yard - [Story] The first noteworthy character get introduced, killed off and brought again twice - [Clunky controls] -- The hacking "puzzles" on the joystick seem to double flip, trigger and dragging the box worked ok -- The moving with the cane arrow/indicator showed up in dialogues way before it could be triggered -- Moving the 'forklift" only when holding the left trigger felt unnatural/unnecessary Bad - [Shameless repetition] From the getting up with the cane to playing a box loop, you will do clunky things that other games do once, at least 3 times - [Steep curve] The cooldown on the EMP is [spoiler]very unforgiving in the robo part heist to fix skew[/spoiler]. - [Softlock] Encountered a soft-lock twice on the [spoiler]press B 'Nuclear' control[/spoiler], rebinding controls and restarting the level twice didn't solve it, entirely restarting the game and replaying the level did... Summary If you're looking for a good couple of hours of - fetching a box - inspecting it - dropping it off - repeat this might be for you. But there simply is far better VR content out there than The Last Worker offers. Check out Moss(1/2) or the Alice in Wonderland VR games for a polished VR narrative For Single Player performance based casual games, check out Job Simulator or Vacation Simulator. For VR stealth check out Operative.
Gameplay loop is decently engaging, slowly adding more things to look for, the story is also interesting and a cool commentary on consumerism, capitalism and corporate greed
I like the art and concept of the game. Dubbing and localization did a great job!
