It's fun
I happen to be pals with the dev, and when he prompted me to try The Last Medic I thought I wouldn't enjoy it :-p I love a platformer buttt I barely got through 19 minutes of Celeste. However.. playing this is so fun to meee! It's definitely a challenge that you have to learn to work through, but NOTHING feels better than mastering the controls and zooming your way through a tricky section. I also love the concept of healing your fallen comrades (the little breath of relief when you heal someone scratches an itch in my brain that I cannot explain). It's clear that lots of thought was put into developing this game, not just from a game play standpoint. The music is incredible, each level has a different and wonderful little melody that will coax you through the pain of dying 100 times. Visually, I adore the colour schemes and tiny details in every level, the little flowers waving in the space wind, the way your cute little medic acts as if he's teetering off the edge of a platform when you get too close. Everything is MUAHH *chefs kiss* Can't wait to play more and figure out the lore of this game, and find all the easter eggs (If I ever get past the first three planets hihi). It's a CHALLENGEE but I totally surprised myself with what I could do with a little perseverance (and cursing at the screen), it makes me want to try my hand at Celeste again! I would recommend this to anyone who loves this genre of precision platform gaming, perhaps even those who do not as you might be surprised! <3<3<3
very cozy but difficult. Patience is key but overall 9/10
As someone who loves Celeste, this game is perfect. It's hard but rewarding at the same time, with simple mechanics that have to be utilized in a complex way. Apart from the great and creative level design, the music and the art style are just stunning. This game is a 10/10 for me. I'd recommend it every day.
The game mechanics, movement, music, and challenges are nearly perfect. Levels can be frustrating (but not in a bad way), and every new level provides a new song to look forward to. As a music, and retro game lover; this checks all the boxes. Not an easy game. If you hate challenges, you might not enjoy.
The game has been surprisingly relaxing for the genre. I'm dying over and over again, probably because I'm a filthy keyboard player, but the sense of achievement when figuring out the right sequence of jump-doublejump-dash-jetpack for each platforming element is wonderful.
this game reminded me a lot of celeste but without the story as much asfar as i've played. its a really fun platformer with cool mechanics. i would recomend playing celeste first if you havent and if you like that then you should try this game out
I've been following this project for a while as a fan of the dev's youtube channel and as a fan of platformers. The finished product did not disappoint. It's a simple and intuitive 2D platforming game with a soothing soundtrack. Worth every penny.
Thumbs up for the music and the lovely pixel art and the good controls but can this game be a little more generous with hit boxes or ledges please. I made it 80% through Celeste but with this I'm stuck at 8%, not going to repeat a sectio 100 times, no Sir. I keep dying at sections with the tiniest time windows, and then I thought I managed a long and difficult section that I practiced 50 times and the bloody thing goes even further. How often did I die from "I didn't touch the spikes!" moments. Maybe I need to look at a better controller? I played through Celeste with a PS4 controller, but can't get far here with a new Xbox controller, it feels a lot less precise for these precision platformers, maybe the longer travel of the analog sticks is a disadvantage here, buttons have a deeper press as well, I think. Yeah I know, blame it on the controller. Maybe I just suck at this.
I haven't finished the game yet, but this is a fun game that deserves way more reviews than what it currently has. The movement is good, deaths mostly feel like your fault (unlike games such as Super Meatboy) and the keyboard controls are easy to remember/execute (unlike games such as Celeste). Music is nice, though can get annoying if you are stuck on a level. The main problem with the game is the checkpoints, they are placed way too far apart and aren't that well placed. Most of the time you have to replay an easy section over and over again just to get a chance to try the actually hard section again. The game also (at the time of writing) doesn't have any cheat settings so you can't just skip a level if you are having trouble with it, however there is a (way too hard to access, doubtful that someone would find the scanner and get it to work without a guide) way to skip around half the levels.
