I enjoyed the artwork in this game and the storyline was exactly as it should be. I did get stuck here and there but I believe that if you too fall down that hole and just keep trying you will get free as I did without much trouble. Overall simple, nicely illustrated, pleasantly achievement filled, and a game I enjoyed.

The Land of Crows is an okay and interesting Gothic lovecraftian game, okay what's the story. In the countryside of Poland a young nobleman named Jan Bonawentura Jablonowski receives a hastily written letter from his old college friend to come to his home in a village in Kuyavia, but what horrors awaits this young nobleman as he travels to his friends mansion in the cold dark rain of the polish countryside. Now what are the likes, the story is pretty good it takes a lot of inspiration from classic masters of horror like Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe, with plenty of twists and turns, a nice well-written cast of characters and a good mystery that keeps you guessing. And if you're a fan of lovecraft you will see plenty of great references to lovecraft's work to a point where honestly this could actually feel like a Lovecraft story. The characters were very good each one with their own unique personality, my favorite has to be lady Elize, she was cool and I really liked her side story and I liked the main character Jan he was also good, he's naive and a romanticist but he's generally a very good person facing extraordinary odds and I liked his loyalty to his friend and wanting to help people. The graphic art style is interesting it feels like you're looking at old time pictures, but one that can move I guess the best comparison I can make is it's like the cutsscenes from The Rock of Ages games and with the black and white look it has a good charm to it, the levels are quite good and a bit diverse with plenty of nice locations done in old black and white photos, and also its taken from real life places which was nice. The gameplay was okay, it's a simple sort of you pick up item, talk to people and use certain item it's very simplistic which was nice. The music was very good with plenty of great tracks that fit the game well. The atmosphere was okay nice and spooky it didn't really make you jump out of your seat or make you feel dread, but it was okay. Now since this is a horror game is this game scary, not really I mean it is a bit disturbing but I mean if you are a horror veteran this isn't going to scare you, this feels more like a classic gothic novel trying to tell an interesting story then to outright scare you. Now what are the dislikes, the game can be a bit wordy what I mean is there is a lot of dialogue and I mean a lot of dialogue, which feels like it sometimes drags a little bit, but it wasn't too bad. Also there's no voice acting in the game, honestly I feel like there should have been voice acting probably would have made the game go a lot faster and lastly there's this diary the main character has that you can read, but problem is it's all written in cursive and I have trouble reading cursive so I wish there was a way to just put it in regular English instead of cursive. Now that's done The Land of Crows is an okay and interesting Gothic lovecraftian game, it has a pretty good story, interesting graphic art style and very good characters. So if you're looking for a casual and free lovecraftian game then I say give this game a try, but I just have to say to have a bit patience when it comes to the dialogue.
There is a LOT of dialogues and it's the only point one could find negative (it didn't bothered me though, I like a little lecture~), otherwise it's a pretty solid Lovecraftian experience, as a fan of the genre I absolutely enjoyed it !
The game is fantastic. It reminds me of the old television intros for PBS MysteryI It has a very similar ambiance. I can imagine the game introduction being voiced by Vincent Price.
Fascinating cthulhoid romp with loads of historical details about 19th century poland and the wars it went through. Highly recommendable!

The Land of Crows is like a museum which aims to educate the players about Polish history, romantic and gothic literature, multiple mythologies, legends and many other subjects. A game had never made me feel so ignorant before. I felt like I was having some trouble learning everything the game was offering me but keeping things in mind was much easier in my second playthrough which was four years after the first one. Though I enjoyed both of my playthroughs. I loved the atmosphere created by the grey palette and dim lighting, immersive soundtrack and the constant pouring of rain that made me feel like I was traversing through Kuyavia myself under it. In fact the strong ambiance of this game is what made me play it twice. I also found the ending very satisfactory for concluding every character's story. People who are not interested in the subjects of this game will most likely find it boring because of its slow pace. But for me there was no dull moment since I enjoyed every bit of both real world and fictional lore.
"The Land of Crows" is more e-book than game, a fanfiction inspired by wearing too much black makeup and watching The Crow while listening to Depeche Mode too much, and the result is, well this. What do you do in the game? It's a ploddingly slow side scrolling 2D adventure game where you discover that, underneath the bland monochrome appearance of the artwork is a bland monochrome equivalent of a story. Yawn. The graphics aren't great... that will understandably be a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging $6 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It's a nice gesture for the game to be given away for free, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 4 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
