The House Of Hikmah is a charming puzzle-platformer with a lot going for it. The game features engaging puzzles, a beautiful art direction, and a really pleasant soundtrack. It also takes place in a historical period that is not often explored, which makes the overall experience quite refreshing and interesting. On the downside, the game could benefit from more polish. Some movements feel a bit clunky, and there are a few minor bugs, nothing game-breaking, but noticeable enough to impact the experience. One regret I have is that, given the richness of the setting, it would have been great to include an in-game index or codex. This could provide additional context about the historical era, as well as the characters you encounter throughout the game. Overall, it’s very much my kind of game. With a bit more polish and the addition of extra content like a historical index, it could become an even stronger experience. Considering the price and what it offers, it remains a very solid and enjoyable title.
Solid puzzle platformer.
Charming with a beautiful environment and interesting characters with puzzle led storytelling. A good indie game worth the low price. It works on Linux but you may need to force a proton version (I am using GE) and add '-dx11' to the launch options. And I am running Bazzite on an ROG Ally.
The art style, music and overall aesthetic of this game are beautiful. I'm just terrible at puzzles and therefore I'm already got stuck a couple of times as I missed levers and couldn't nail some jumps... I'm going to stick with it though, I think it has promise.
this new game as out of this world, I loved the story, and the learning curve, the puzzle. i am still in the early stage but I loved it
Pretty fun puzzle platformer in a unique setting. Great character designs and engaging plot. Little rough around the edges, but worth the price.
Google search recommended this game for me when searching video games with Islamic/Arabic aesthetic. Despite the very limited number of reviews, the game is surprisingly polished and well-designed; the puzzles require a bit of thought without being frustrating. Though the main story about the protagonist coping with the loss of her father follows a fairly familiar formula. I appreciated seeing two historical Islamic women scholars included in the game, and both are portrayed as memorable and engaging characters. By contrast, I found
the antagonist "the Widow"
somewhat less compelling, as much of her characterization revolves around the relationship with her husband.
nice prromising game
Good puzzle game with excellent visuals, a resonant message, and a genuine representation of its culture. It introduces new mechanics at a reasonable pace, and its "alchemy" system presents a somewhat-trodden but still relatively fresh set of core mechanics. I think it suffers from some jank, some chunks of puzzle design feel a little clumsy, and puzzles which do not involve new mechanics (such as those in the final level) are typically kind of rote. It also falters a bit when levels have an increased focus on platforming due to the somewhat loose and slippery core movement. In general, I think it's not very hard to notice areas where House of Hikmah strains against its budget, but it's clearly made with heart, and I enjoyed my time with it well enough.
A beautifully designed game with fantastic puzzles and world building. Highly recommend playing it. The story is great and full of impact. Maya is a delightful character whose spice and sass brings such breath of fresh air. Reading the blog posts about the art and the thought behind all the characters deepens the meaning and world. Bravo
