The best showcase of graphic power in VR so far! Maybe this is the most advanced simulation of reality in VR in terms of visual fidelity. It challenges the limits of today hardware. There are several experiences reaching quite good realism thanks to photorealistic environments realized with photogrammetry technique. E.g. see Roald Amundsen's House on Steam. However most of times photogrammetric environments look "dead", "artificial". Not the case of Homestead. And do you know why? Because of state-of-the-art simulation and rendering of light in VR. In Homestead you can enjoy realistic reflections, refraction, scattering, transparency, volumetric effects, shadows. The first time you enter the house , it's just breathtaking, mind blowing. When you take some steps in the house or change your point of view, reflection of light changes like in real reality. Not by chance, despite the environment is very limited, just three rooms, Homestead takes circa 25GB on my SSD! My beefy and overclocked air cooled PC seems to take flight while running Homestead on the Reverb G2! The house is surrounded by the sea; outside it's raining. The graphic rendition of the sea and of the rain is really amazing. You can look at the seascape through the windows. The effects of reflections, transparency and refraction through the glass are extremely realistic and make your jaws drop! You can also admire extremely detailed artworks, paintings and sculptures while listening to a voice over full explanation. Relaxing piano sonata and directional environmental sounds complete the immersive experience. You're adviced: no interaction here, it's just a visual showcase; you can just teleport or take some steps around if you have enough space in your real room. I enjoyed it so much with my crystal clear G2. Congratulations to the developers, it a very optimized VR experience running at the limits of today hardware. More of this please! Obviously in flat 3D you can find experiences with more realistic graphics; Homestead is a benchmark in VR realism. And it's free! You can find something similar in Deep Stats VR (look for the demo); however Homestead is a step ahead in my opinion.
