About
Locked in a dystopian lab, a strange egg stirs. Its temperature, humidity, and nutrients must be maintained with precision. Its integrity is fragile. And you must not fail.
The Overseer watches—cold, unwavering, and silent in its judgment. You are but one of many caretakers before you, each evaluated, each replaced. Failure is not an option.
This low-bit horror simulation demands absolute efficiency:
✔ Regulate temperature, humidity, and nutrients—maintain the egg’s delicate balance.
✔ Acquire and ration lab supplies through the Supply Shaft—resources are limited.
✔ Combat system malfunctions—power surges, failing dispensers, will test you.
✔ Endure the Overseer’s relentless judgment—its criteria are unknown, its patience is not infinite.
✔ Uncover the hidden purpose of the lab—and your own existence.
As you carry out your task, something deeper stirs within the facility. The unseen presence behind the Overseer grows aware of you. A voice—distorted, ancient—seeps into the system. Is it watching through the Overseer? Or has it always been there?
With a relentless, suffocating atmosphere, The Hatchling is a test of your efficiency, endurance, and obedience.
You were built for this. But will you prove yourself worthy?

Cool premise and setting - the atmosphere is nice. I guess a bunch of AI was used for textures which is kinda fitting in this case actually. Gameplay is VERY BORING - you run around in a small room and press buttons. All relevant information is displayed in the top left corner - big missed opportunity here, information could have been displayed in the game world in an diegetic and immersive way... If you do not manage your resources correctly you will lose AT THE END OF THE GAME - you play 20 min to lose on 90% ?? That is just frustrating and a game designers job should be to create puzzles and mechanics that AVOID frustrating and unsolvable solutions... Also no audio settings and no quit game button in the level (?) - I alt+f4 the game once I realized I was hard stuck. Would love to know what creature is hatched in the end tho... Ricardo, I am sorry for this harsh review - I am a bit tilted since I really loved the idea of the game and was following it for quite some while... it is just not fun (for me) and I usually play games to have fun.
The hatchling was a great experience. The game puts you in a unsettling environnment were you need to complete the tasks assign to you. I would definitely recommend this game for any one looking for a short horror game.
This is a hard game. Not that it's a bad thing. There's a lot of moving pieces. Pros: Scary Dark Great graphics Dark humor Cons: Can't invert Y axis Tiny HUD numbers are tiny Unskippable end scene
I will start by saying , I see the potential here. I really enjoyed the design and style, as it brought me some of that nostalgic feeling I had when I was playing 2000s scifi games on the family computer. I've always said that if you can get at least an hour of enjoyment per dollar you spend, that game is worth it. It can be a little repetitive caring for the egg, but I like the tension as the time nears and you're running out of energy and credits. Overall, I had a great time with the eggs I named, and I barely spent a dollar so I'm happy. Looking forward to see what other games come out and I would love to see if you flesh out any of the ideas presented in this game, thanks!
Cool small game with a great atmosphere and art-style. A bit tricky to get the hang of at first, as the information on how to manage the egg is somewhat overwhelming and off-putting in its presentation. I wish the failure ending was skippable, but also I understand having to sit through it is a punishment for failure. Glad I saw it through to the end though, recommended.
Very quick, and fun. A little too easy though.
Pretty neat horror game. I think this was the perfect length, because the management became slightly repetitive but not to the point of being boring.
I finished the game. The demo was really fun and I was excited for this to come out. I liked the time and resource management gameplay and it was a fun challenge to keep going for longer than the demo. Good short game
it's like an artsy abstract distopian futuristic slice yeah yeah, good good, i recemmend this, i would worship mother 10/10. HxH failed the chimera arc,
