Another dull game made mostly or even fully out of the engine's standard assets. The same boring Mokoko batteries, the same boring menu, the not-used journal, the keys with the dull explanation, everything you've already seen a thousand times before. Sorry, but we're living in an era of AI generated graphics and libraries full of assets for free. If developers are that lazy not even to invest this tiny bit of effort to change at least the standard stuff, you can count the game is boring. The game is starting with a bland menu, few options, nothing fancy. At least ultra-wide support. There is no story at the beginning, not even a simple text, nothing, you're just spawned into a quite uninspired office. No really good details, only one room is featuring a light switch, most things are repetitive. Your task is to guard a shopping mall. The mall itself is designed not very good as well, sadly. The shops, however, are quite nicely done and appear like in real-life. Quite soon there is a bunch of mannequins attacking you as soon as you're looking away from them. All you need to do is to keep them in sight, if not, they're approaching fast and causing contact damage. So just another game with the very same idea like so often. Even the mannequins I've seen in several games before. There is plenty of stuff, because, for sure your flashlight is eating up the batteries like insane. A really innovative idea. Not. On the second floor you need to collect keys in any shop to open some closed doors. I'm still looking for the 'clever riddles' some people mentioned here. Except the fountains and the standard-moaning sound of the player if being hit by a mannequin there is absolutely no sound. I'm wondering to which 'creepy sound' some of the comments are referencing to? It's more a tech demo for the engine, but a game. Missing any innovation, a journal, a clear task, or even at least a bit of fresh content. It's a boring game like Thousands before. Even for small money it's no good deal.
The Guard: A Long Night on Patrol - Atmospheric, but Lacking Direction?
So, I recently had a chance to check out “The Guard”, and it puts you in the shoes, or rather the security boots, of a night watchman. Your job? To patrol a seemingly abandoned shopping mall. A pretty basic setup, you might think, but things get… well, they get a little odd.
A Shopping Mall After Dark: What's the Deal?
The core of The Guard is really about creating an atmosphere. You’re a security guard, all alone. Night. Shopping Mall. You have a flashlight. That’s the deal. It wants to get you into the mind, I guess, of somebody watching over an area where things should be safe, but at this hour, might not be.
Gameplay: Wandering the Aisles
You walk. You explore. You use your flashlight. That's kind of all you do, really. You go through the mall. It's pretty quiet. Very little is clear about what you should be doing. This probably makes it a horror game.
Conclusion
Ultimately, “The Guard” leaves you with a feeling… mostly of being in a shopping mall at night. If you’re looking for something that’s dripping with atmosphere, with lots of time to wander around, and generally have a quiet think, then you may find something here. But if you are looking for something that points you somewhere with a clear story and a task to do, this might not be a great game for you.
Yeah this game is ass
Absolute cinema. Best gaming experience, not even silent hill could hold a candle to it. The dopamine rush of finding the keys to then check every possible door to see if it works, amazing. Thats not even the best part. Letting the enemy tickle your non existent health bar so you can chow down on pills, incredible. 10/10 pill muncher to the max Edit: Just woke up in the hospital from an Advil overdose
Good horror game, creepy atmosphere, and frightening silence of a night mall. Also, a cool idea with finding keys while running from mannequins.
