To begin this review, let me say that I went in with a positive attitude. The game opened up and I was informed this game was free to play "listed on steam as such as well". At the bottom of the main menu, there it was... the words "Your free trial will end on June 3rd". That was unexepected, but I decided to go through and see if the game would be worth paying for after the trial period anyway. I started out in the tutorial (obviously). The controls were fine, the graphics were nice, and the ability to try out all the starting weapons at the start was great. I enjoyed using the shamans staff (oddly...I usually would have gone with swords or bows) and went on my way through the tutorial. The mobs were very easy, killing them just by standing behind a small pebble that wasn't phasable. I thought, at that point "eh, this is the tutorial...of course it'll be easy". That's when I hit the "Extract from the Dead Animal" or "Extract from the Meteor" part of the tutorial. Essentially, think of these as "Capture Points" in which you have to stand around the dead animal...to claim it. While you're doing this, monsters will spawn and try and kill you or the capture point. The dead animal point wasn't too difficult...but the meteor one was a different story. The meteor one spawned monster eggs, that had a 30 second timer to destroy. That doesn't sound too bad in itself, however it took forever for a single player to destroy one, while more and more kept spawning around you... I thought I would be fine later with this since I'd probably get stronger... so I managed to look past it. I completed the tutorial and began my venture. Once in the main game, I looked around for a bit then headed off to do some of my objectives. I ran into some mobs and fought them carefully, since I was no longer in the tutorial. However, I eventually ran into a mini-boss (or rare spawn) and found that he too was stuck on a pebble, and small tree. I used this to my advantage, and killed him in 5 minutes (yea it took a bit longer than I wanted. I was just holding my left mouse button down and using my "Q" every time it was available (damage over time skill). After killing it, I noticed just how easy the PVE is. I killed everything, let everything swarm me, and just watched them get caught on things. The pathfinding of the enemy mobs is just horrendous. Moving on from the mob difficulty, the game is dead...Like, dead dead. There was only 1 other person speaking in the server, and I had not seen another player at all. The 1 person only asked "Is anyone even on?!" in which I replied "I am!". He had been on for 3 hours without having another player speak in chat or even to be seen at all... This is basically a solo game, or co-op with friends game. The PVP aspect is ... at this point non-existent. We partied up, but never got to find each other since the games map does not provide you with information or a marker to show where the other party members are. He eventually got tired of the game and asked me if I knew about any good games. After he left, I played for a bit more and managed to get to level 14. A message at the top of the screen stated that my progress in level has placed me "85%" higher than other players of the game. I checked the leaderboards with "L" and confirmed ... I was already #14 . That was disappointing. I played a little longer still and went to gather resources from dead animals and meteors... but this time it was much harder. The meteor timer (for capturing) was 5 minutes. 5 minutes of standing there, shooting eggs before they hatched. This was just a tedious and boring task that eventually overwhelmed me with eggs literally everwhere around me. I managed to finish the capturing of the meteor however, but I thought this was ridiculously long and boring as hell. The same with the animals dead corpse capture point. It was also 5 minutes, however the enemies started getting progressively harder. It started with simple little monsters (like in the tutorial), then came raptors and Hungry Thogs (Pig like things). The raptors were freaking brutal and the pigs were just annoying. I managed to survive and gather my reward from the dead corpse, but realized at this point that there's not much else going on for the game. With the dead playerbase, there is nothing but boring capturing points and mob hunting. This game is a no-go in my book. 3/10
The Exiled Review
I have been following The Exiled for some time now, and I was really excited to play it at launch. After about two hours of gameplay, it's clear to see that the devs put a lot of hard work in this game. The world is beautiful, with many different biomes/areas to explore. The tutorial is straight-forward and informative. Unfortunately the game does fall short in some places. After completing the tutorial, you are left to do your own thing - no hand-holding whatsoever. And there isn't much else to do other than to grind the same events over and over, or kill other players. Also, the combat is weird and clunky, with plenty of lag. The devs say there is "no grinding" but actually, there's plenty of it. You need to kill monsters/participate in events to obtain items to level up your equipment/to craft new equipment, which seems kind of pointless (unless you're leveling up to kill other players and steal their loot, I don't see why you'd want to grind for countless hours just to level up your equipment a bit). Finally, the community has been quite toxic so far. Since it's PvP at all times, almost everyone is trying to kill you at all times. I found a ton of loot at one stage, and two of these guys came up to me and rekt me and I lost everything 5 minutes later. This is just unfair, especially since I had just spent the last 5 minutes doing an event for [a little bit of] loot. I did however find an awesome guy that I had helped to finish an event and he shared half the loot with me. That was pretty cool. Another thing is that all the events are practically the same. In my experience, all you do in an event is defend a site from a bunch of attacking monsters that look the exact same pretty much every time. Fun, right? Wrong. All in all, I'd say this game is good to an extent, but it definitely does need to be improved in some areas. It's also only free for 7 days, and thereafter we have to pay $20. If you want to support the devs, then you should definitely buy it, but otherwise I don't think the game is worth $20 in it's current state. Give it a try though, I mean it's free - won't hurt to try! I'm giving it a thumbs up for now, but it is subject to change. Also if you enjoy trolling people, then this is definitely the game for you. Thanks for reading and hope you have a great day!
I already played the beta and the version on the Gamescom last year. Back then the game was already quite polished, but it is no comparison to the version I just played. The controls are super snappy, the effects are awesome and it is just a lot of fun to take on multiple enemy players at once and cut them in pieces. In the beginning it takes some time to fully understand the depth the game offers, with all the clan features and possibilities to team up, but the fast paced combat got me directly from the start. It is hard to explain, but it kinda plays like a cross breed of a shooter and a fast MOBA game, but in top down view. I can definitely recommend the game to everyone who likes fast, intense fights and battle other clans with friends. Enjoy!
This game = Lags, glitches, poor battle experiences. No grinding you said? that is BS. You will be grinding on mobs for skills and pigments. You have to grind on events to obtain materials in order to craft gears. You will be spending 80% of your game time grinding and 20% on losing your loots and getting killed by players in group. What is ridiculous is that you are only allowed to gain certain amount of exp from items and killing mobs each day. So many things are glitched at this moment, for example, earth wall does not properly block mobs as some mobs can just squeeze pass walls. Gravirty well often does not apply slow on palyers and does not suck them toward the center. In terms of balance, it seems like sickle is the most useful and probably most powerful weapon atm. it is capable of killing mobs in group and doing some good 2 VS 1 while other weapons are just eating ♥♥♥♥. Did i mention that you are constantly being blocked and stucked by little rocks, plants, and sometimes buildings on the path ? that probably happens like every 5 minutes !! The contol in this game is extremely clunky and not smooth, even MapleStory is smoother than this. All and all, they want you to spend money to support them and reserve for future spots and names. I honostly do not think this game can even last that long unless they are willing to polish the contorls and improve the concept of this game so it is playable and enjoyable.
Great game with amazing potential, dont get distracted by the look of the game in videos, playing it together with friends against others players for territory, ressources and might is very fun and challenging! I hope the game gets a bigger community but its an early access so my hopes for a release is high, i played alot in the alpha stage of the game and won a season so i know that the game is fun and nice, the only thing that really bothers me is the low amount of players ingame. A very underrated gaming experience, sad to see only few players ingame, even with those its still very fun to play. Well as i said before its still early access, the full release will bring plenty of new players to the game if the marketing goes right. At least test the game out, its free to play for one week and its worth it!
[strike]Perfect Great Decent Painfully Average[/strike]
☑☑☑ Garbage ☑☑☑

Why steam don't remove dead games from store
The Exiled is an Early Access, social, open PvP, partial loot, sandbox MMORPG. It’s in active development, and has been on Steam Early Access for a little over 1 month, with 2 updates so far. There are EU, US and Brazilian servers. I recommend you give it a try yourself if you're interested, since it’s only a 500 MB download. Note that most of the events with high rewards occurs at 7pm-11pm server time, so that is when the people log on and fight over things with each other. In terms of actual gameplay as it exists now, the combat is quite fun (WASD movement + mouse aiming for skills). It has full friendly fire, everything is a skill shot, in isometric combat (like League of Legends without any auto-targetting or auto-attacks). There are multiple social tools such as clans, parties etc. to aid you in coordinating groups or doing some active diplomacy. You can establish bases, lay siege to settled bases, and in general do whatever you feel like. All equipment is player crafted, which includes weapons and armour. The weapon type and armour type define what sort of skills your character can use, which can be changed at any time. There are 5 weapons and 4 armour types at the moment, with more to come. Skills can be leveled, with the max level of skills defined by character level. Character level has a catch up mode which gives you a bonus to get closer towards the max level on the server faster. Grinding levels has significant diminishing returns, so that people always have a chance to compete without having to always grind levels. The diminishing returns on XP is reset every day, so that the max character levels on the server gradually increase as the season progresses. Seasons at the moment last 28 days, but the devs say that there are plans for all kinds of different game modes and rules in the future. There are no safe zones so they can’t be exploited, even in the beginner zones. People compete over high score related to how well they control resources and convert their surplus to score. At the moment, the main conflicts occur during peak time (7-11pm local time) over resource control points, which give a lot of resources if you control them. The game doesn’t force you directly to group, so if you want to go at it solo you’ll have to deal with the consequences of that, good and bad. You could act as a mercenary, for example. I started the game without knowing anyone, and made friends and enemies through shifting alliances in the game, sometimes there are agreements on terms of battle, sometimes not. I’ve been playing for over a month now, and there are monthly resets of the game world to keep it fresh and for the developers to try different experiments. They have recently (April 20) done a third update after 2 months of release, which adds more tools to join clans, and various bug fixes. They look like they will do monthly updates which coincide with the monthly reset. New player advice for this season: * Check out the very quick and straightforward guide to the basics of the game here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=857190477 * Join a clan ASAP or make your own (even if it is just yourself, since some activities need you to be in a clan). Being social in an MMO!? Crazy talk. You can do some things solo, but I personally had a lot of fun being in clans and doing things together. I didn’t know anyone when I started as well. But you can try playing solo too, the game doesn't force you directly to do so, but you have to accept the consequences of that, for good and bad. * The easiest way to get resources is to log on during prime time (7pm-11pm server time) and take a resource control point. You might have to fight for it, but it gives in excess of 1600 materials by controlling it and looting the nearby crate afterwards, which completely eliminates any grind. ------- Below, the developer responded to a previous version of this review, regarding a complaint I had with lag. So they were actively trying to find the bug. They fixed it in 4 days.
This will be one of my first reviews, however I felt compelled to wring something about this product. I want to recommend this game, but I think I am unable to do so in good concience. I do not have a lot of hours in the game, but I would like to go over the starter experience as this is one of the more important aspects of a game when trying to earn customers. First, the tutorial was good. It was short and to the point, which was nice as I got to get in to the actual game rather quickly. I believe that this is a strong point as 30 minute tutorials are quite boring. Upon leaving the tutorial area I was quickly killed. Older players camping the new player spawn. This is a problem and often a big turn off for new players. In fact the majority of my first two hours playing the game was spent being camped by veteran players, or when I did get away being killed by players while trying to earn sigils to gain skills. I see a lot of potential for this game as I love many aspects about it, at least from what I have read, and the little bit that I have seen. The new player experience is going to need to be modified if they wish to retain players. I am more than willing to put money down on a game like this, but as usual these games are often riddled with a toxic community that only wants to grief and not actually fight on a remotely even playing field. When the Veteran player was confronted about this behavior and what it does to keeping players he simply stated that the game was already dead and that no one was going to stay anyway. This is a very poor way to represent a community, and I really hope the developers take some time to look at why retetion rates are so low.
It's kind of sad to see the game in this state, it had so much potential, but I think the Devs simply just bit off more they could chew. Relying too much on word of mouth what the game has mainly lacked so far is exposure and time. The game still needs polish and it really lacks it. Sure it is in Early Access, but its very hard to say if the Devs will keep on pushing for this game after its failed release on steam. If you play this game currently, you will hardly see a soul until peak hours. The terrain still glitches, there still seems to be a lack of variety in combat, They have introduced one new weapon from its alpha which is the lance and shield, and it seems utterly broken due to its long melee range, although I cannot say if its balanced in a pvp perspective because yet again there is no one to fight. I have not played on European servers myself, but with the amount of lag I will be experiencing doing it. I simply don't think there is a reason to go out of my way and trying to boost my ping on a game that is half baked at best. They have released new biomes, boss fights, and new character models for mobs since the Alpha, but the new models seem to lack some amount of continuity. Like they tried stuffing too many enemy types in one small biome. Which in turn makes the assests in the game kind of lacking. For example, The revenant faction seems to be made of zombies, wandering humans, bug people, giant zombie behemoths, mages etc etc. And they all seemed to be focused in one area. Which kind of makes it seem they took a bunch of random assests that didn't fit and plopped them into one area. I guess the one good thing about the mobs is that they gave them variety in attacks, but none of the attacks are telegraphed, so you never know when to dodge an attack so 90% of the time you will be hit by an enemy's stun. The combat is still kind of Clunky to the point where it still feels that your basics are point and click and not actually skill shots. The normal control points still take too long to control. It takes a total of 5 minutes, which might not seem like a lot of time, but for a game where there are hardly any people and the world feels pretty small, it kind of is. The one thing they did change was that you have to baby sit the control point so monsters don't destroy it, which kind of sucks because from a PVP standpoint you're forced out in the open and you're just a sitting duck while people will converge on you, rather than carefully hiding in the brush for a surprise attack. (but since there are no players then there really isn't a point here) Then from a PVE standpoint it kind of sucks killing weak mobs for five whole minutes that don't offer anything except for equipment exp which every mob drops in this game+more. I haven't attempted any of the group content or the harder control points because either im pretty sure from my past experience they all work the same way with the harder content, but with the group content... you already know what I will probably say about that. So for the run down... This game is dead, don't invest into it unless the game somehow makes its way on the front store page. At least then its pretty clear that this game has had a resurgance and the team knows what they're doing in terms of marketing. But the team simply just don't know how market their game and how to improve on it further which is a shame.
