The Donnerwald Experiment

[b]First off, I would like to disclaim that I played most of the game off-steam, as shamefully, that is how I first discovered it, but despite that, I'm happy I did. Approximate playtime would equate to about 4 hours. (including replays, game currently contains 1 polished chapter, with more to come relatively soon)[/b] Personally, this game seemed like a tame, humble flash game inspired game appearance-wise, with tasteful hand drawn background and classic anime character icons during chat, but there's more that lies beyond just stunning looking indie game graphics and cute art. The game has quite an intriguing story which makes you want more, has branching story paths and pulls quite a few tricks on you at times. That being said, it is very important to acknowledge the fact that the game is indeed still in development, and many features are still being worked on, so the best thing you can do is wait and give feedback and opinions to the developer, in a form of constructive criticism preferably or by writing a review. (if I was a game dev, I'd be a sucker and really happy to receive this kind of response) All in all, this game is a pleasant experience even it its current state, personally being mesmerised by the graphics and in love with the character design and unique refreshing humor it has to offer, and would recommend for anyone who likes a growing indie game with potential. [i]After all, it always feels special to be at the start of something big, before some giant on youtube decides to play it.[/i]

So this game is about a character named Johanna who has lost her creativity. To get it back she hops into the dream world via a dream machine to face her inner fears. Her dreams quickly turn into nightmares and nightmares into reality when she encounters several demons inside the dream world. (as far as I understand it) This game seems to be developing an interesting story line. It also gets pretty spooky after a while. Story seems to be the strong point of this game as other activities (like combat) are in need of some improvement. Actual game content is still fairly limited as of this review (early access). However there's a detailed release schedule for further content updates.

When i first started to play this early access game, i couldn't stop till i finished the first chapter (That's all you can play right now) and im looking forward or more. The characters are created with love for detail and the story starts right away. Sometimes it's a bit spooky, but in a goob way. The fights are pretty hard, but winable. Funny to play, would recommend!

Great Characters, Great Story, Great Gameplay I like

Legitimately one of the most underrated games on Steam. With the amount of people craving an experience akin to the first two Paper Mario titles, it's surprising I haven't seen more buzz about TDE. That's not to say it's only great because of the PM influence though; far from it. The narrative is intriguing, the characters are incredibly likable, (Johanna especially is a great protagonist) and the combat iterates on the action-command formula in ways that build upon what it was inspired by.

Currently playing trough it got it random on a sale. The story is at the start a little weird but rich of action. Also the gameplay is nothing special basically paper mario but well done. From a balance point of view till now everything is well balanced and the fights are fun. Not sure how it proceeds but im positivly impressed because this is not your average RPG Maker game with free Assets. If you like darker stories and story rich rpgs then go for it.

The game is a lot better after the quality of life update. I'd recommend getting it now before the price increases with the chapter 3 update.

Really cool story and narrative. It's surprisingly immersive for a 2D turn based game, and it can really be pretty scary in some moments.
