Take a scientifically inaccurate romp in pirate-infested waters! Will you prove to the Royal German Marinological Society that mermaids really exist?

First let me say that I love Choice Of games. BUT this was a lame experience. Witty and all, but not a compelling story. And although I played it twice, it all felt the same to me: if you don't make wild choices, you're ending up with a boring ending. Play "The eternal sea" instead.
I played this game with my brother on a car trip across the midwest. In the beginning, he just wanted to know what I had been laughing at, and so I told him. And then I read him a bit of the story, and asked him what he wanted to do. Soon, I was reading the entire thing to him, and waiting for him to make a decision, and doing silly voices for the different characters. Eventually I had to stop, since I had worn out my voice by talking constantly for two or three hours. When we got to a hotel, he immediately bought the game, so that he could do a replay, and try to get a different ending than the one we ended up with after the first playthrough. I haven't played many other choice of game's games, and so I can't speak as to where how this ranks as compared to other games of it's type. It is short, and maybe a bit shallower than you would want. But sometimes you don't want to read an epic, 10 hour saga; sometimes you just want to spend a nice time telling a story with a friend.
It seems good so far, On;y playyed a few minutes of it, but these people usualy make games pretty consistently in terms of quality and robustness, and so far so good. The game has a kind of zany sense of humor that I'm all about, a good ability to play with your expectations the same way a cat plays with a ball of yarn, and some serious questions raised in a compeltly hands off enviroment. I say to have a go at it.
While I enjoyed this game's writing and setting, it is extremely short, and I feel that the ending is very anti-climactic. I think this could have been a great game if it hadn't ended so abruptly, but as it stands, I unfortunately can't recommend this one.
It's not the best nor the longest in the series, but at the heart of the game there's more than enough charm and fun to justify buying it. When you factor in the replayability that's inherent in a CYOA title, it's an especially good deal even at full price. The length is a criticism mostly because it feels as if the game ends just as the plot's moving into gear. Almost as soon as you've started off, you're finishing up. However, I found the game's core mechanic (patron system) interesting and there were choices that gave me pause- I'd like to see the alternative paths. I'll definitely play it again.
Great release from CoG! I've only done one playthrough, but for $2 I already feel like there's a decent amount of material to make replays fun. I wish there was moe emphasis on the different routes in research you take as opposed to romantic and social opitons, but overall a lot of fun. If you like the CYOA genre, definetly a good game to pick up.
The daring mermaid expedition was a decent game but not something warranting multiple playthroughs. If your looking for a fantastic game brought to you by the same people I implore you to check out choice of robots a truly fantastic game!
Love this games. I own all of them. :3
This has got to be the weakest title by CoG I've played. Choices don't seem to matter as much and the writing is pretty bad compared to others.
