The Builder - Season 1

It's rare for me to write a review for a game before I have played it in its entirety. However, there are exceptions and The Builder - Season 1 is such an exception. My primary dislike is lack of player agency. For examples: 1) Once in Fjorda at night, the MC's phone activates for an incoming call. As the player, I chose to ignore the call. However, the next day I receive a call from the MC's former lover wherein both reference the phone conversation they had the previous night. So much for story continuity. 2) Player inability to agree to or reject flavors/fetishes. Early in the game the MC imagines interacting sexually with the mayor and - BAM - he's on his knees rimming her. No shaming, it just isn't something as a player I'd ever choose. But, I have no choice as a player. It's just thrust into my face full-monitor. 3) Worst of all...what terms can I use to describe the MC...? Simp. Eejit. Git. Spineless. Tool. Again, for me as a player, I am given no agency in how to play the MC's interactions with his former lover - call rejected still accepted in number 1. I'm just thrust into his whimpering entreaties to his former lover about how he still loves her. Grow up. Move on. In an attempt through the very limited in-game choices I had to get the fool to grow a backbone, I am tossed into a pregnancy fetish. Again, no shaming, just not my flavor. I strive to give media - books, games, movies - a full chance before sharing my opinion about them; but I honestly don't know if I'll be able to force myself to finish this game. Maybe a day or fifty away from it will make it tolerable if I come back to it. One positive worth noting: It was great to see variety in natural looking breasts and body types for the female characters.

one of the shortest and most expensive game I bought in this genre. It felt rushed, not much story building or character development for that matter. It should have been doubled in playable time. But splitting the game into "two" seasons makes more money. Unfortunate though. This story concept is much different then others on here. Had lot of potential to be flushed out into something more enjoyable. Sadly refund is out of question now. *edit* through further reading about this game on the store page...... this is planned to be 6 seasons!!! that makes this game out to be close to $90 said and done. lets hope the other "seasons" have actual content.

There are a lot of images missing and the game can't seem to go for more than twenty or thirty minutes without crashing again. The game has potential, but right now it needs a lot of work to reach a basic level of stability and functionality.

What I expected : The Wicker Man (with sex fantasy) What I got : Monty Python's Life of Brian (without humor) And... always look on the bright side of life (I didn't buy season 3,4,5, you know)

It also features multiple choices that increase three different stats depending on your picks: Karma if you do a good action, Perv if you're open to exploring new kinks, and Confidence, which is self-explanatory. And what is that for? I bought this game because it looked like the models used for all of the fem characters were unique and varied. And from that aspect I enjoyed the game. But that's about all I enjoyed about the game. The story was very short. The choices don't have any real impact on anything. The plot was there somewhere, maybe. And there are no consequences for any decision. Took me about 90 minutes to play and another 30 minutes for a second run making alternate choices that led me to the same spot.

I can't really say if it is a good visual novel or not because sooner or later the picture goes to a black screen besides the chat box still showing up and if I try to continue to see if it comes out of it, it ends up making the game freeze and I have to open my task manager to end the task. I have tried reloading multiple times, checked all my drivers and they are all up to date. It doesn't do it for any other VN's I play either so I know it's not my computer. I have now tried playing it through Steam and Patreon(Yes I paid for it on both.) and it does the same thing. I was hoping it would work right once it came to Steam but it seems it doesn't it.

[h1]Story[/h1] You're applying to be the builder of The Laestadius Memorial Center in Fjorda. The Center will house an auditorium, a permanent exhibition, and be built entirely of local wood. The deadline for the completion of the project is one year from now, for the 100th anniversary of Fjorda. The builder will work alone and use only local materials. The application is very thorough, including a medical exam. [h1]Gameplay[/h1] Every time you launch the game you will have to verify that you are 18+ and set any preference changes you made. When you start the game you are given the option of viewing a brief tutorial. If you're familiar with RenPy visual novels you can skip it and not miss anything. After a brief introduction you are able to name your character, first and last name, Knut Bell by default. At different points in the game you are asked about the story, almost like checking to see if you paid attention. There are a lot of single choice options. If you have only one option, it isn't really a choice. The story could have continued without it. There are also quite a few circular choices, where you have multiple options and after you complete one, you return to the same set of choices. The circular choices have an "exit" choice at the bottom, like Leave or Continue. At the end of the chapter you are given your stats: Karma, Perv, and Confidence. Unfortunately you have no idea how they relate to the game. However, they do impact your ability to unlock the Gallery at the end of the game. The English is good, with the occasional misspelling and odd language choice. I'm not real fond of the main character. [spoiler]He starts off with a vow of chastity and devolves into a guy who will hit anything. Also a bit of a Simp.[/spoiler] Great for scenes, not so good for character development. [h1]The Gallery[/h1] The Gallery is unlocked, if your score is high enough, after you complete the story. You will need to create a save there to go back as it doesn't add an option to the main menu. The Gallery is really more of a bookmark to the scenes in the game. You will be able to go through the scenes, exactly as you did in the game. [h1]Final Verdict[/h1] Plentiful and beautiful models. Heavily into pregnancy, both before and after. A bit pricey, you will probably want to pick this up on sale, or as part of a bundle. [h3]마무리 지으며..[/h3] 이게 시즌 1이고, 현재 스팀에는 시즌 2가 Early Access로 출시 중입니다. 개발자가 시즌 6까지 계획 중이라고 하는데.. 제 성격상 시리즈물의 첫 번째를 구입을 하면 그 시리즈가 완성될 때까지는 하건 안 하건 일단 수집을 할 확률이 높아서 이 게임도 아마 환불할 것 같습니다. 시즌 6까지 구입하고 싶지도 않고, 일단 퀄리티가 소장 가치가 없어요. 시즌 1,2 합본으로 구매했는데.. 시즌 2도 대충 훑어보고 같이 환불하던가 해야겠습니다. 평가가 '복합적' 인 데는 다 이유가 있었네요.
