The Aching

A month or two ago, I saw someone playing King's Quest 1 and 2 on Youtube. I have played this type of game that's text-only, but never one in the original style like King's Quest this game recreates so well. Upon playing it, it has sated my thirst for that exact sort of game, and [spoiler]it doesn't have any "dead man walking" situations, which was much appreciated when I tried to experiment throughout the game.[/spoiler]

Very nice homage to 80s Sierra adventures.

A super lovely game! It has everything I love about old sierra games while reworking the aspects I dont like (namely softlocks and death states) into really cool methods of progression. The world is also really unique and interesting.

A delightfully fun and retro game. Reminds me of my misspent youth playing Zork and Kings Quest series at Uni when I really should have been studying ! Everything about this game punches me right in the nostalgia gland. The sound design (such as it was on the old dos games of the time) and the graphics (more of the same , very much of its time) I've not progressed very far in this game at all yet. Try as I might I just can't put the fish in my ear... wazzat? Wrong game? Well what have I been playing. Oh Xyzzy !! Dock me 2 Zorkmids and feed me to the grue. A really fun game and one I look forward to playing more. I just need to refresh my I.F. smarts. lets just say the text parser is "slightly" less than ChatGPT levels ;) Several attempts at "Examime chest" or "Examine door" proved fruitless. Not always clear what you can and cannot interact with. But again, this is very much in keeping with the period this game so lovingly recreates. Now if you excuse me, I've a pressing engagement with this Leather Goddess from Phobos. I'm late for my... er... "appointment"

Die interessantesten Aspekte der Story und des World Buildings dieses Spiels sind leider hinter ziemlich obskuren optionalen Rätseln versteckt, so dass man sie bei einem normalen Playthrough niemals zu Gesicht bekommen wird. Und es muss einem bewusst sein, dass dieses Spiel nur als erstes Kapitel von mehreren gedacht ist, so dass das Spielende auch nicht sonderlich befriedigend ist. Außerdem ist der Parser echt nicht sonderlich gut. Aber trotzdem für Liebhaber der ganz alten Sierra-Spiele einen Blick wert. Das Spiel ist offensichtlich mit viel Liebe gemacht worden und fängt das Gefühl dieser alten Spiele echt ganz gut ein.

Truly legit old-school-inspired adventure game. I think the vaguely-Lovecraftian feel of the game's atmosphere is one of its strongest qualities. The world feels FLESHed out and real, you can honestly believe more of it exists outside the select portion you get to see. Admittedly, it is a pretty small portion. The entire game feels a bit like the first chapter of a longer story. But honestly, it's enjoyable enough that its brevity didn't really bother me that much. It also has an interesting twist on the typical death mechanic, more NPC interaction than most other games of its kind, and maybe most importantly, I managed to beat the whole thing without resorting to cheating, which isn't something I can say about most of the games Aching takes inspiration from.

Cool Sierra like parser game. Quite short but has many secrets that extend the playtime.

This game gives the full feeling experience of this genre. Update: I finished the game. Hurray! Tips: You'll probably get stuck at some point . Make sure you look at everything you see in each pixelated scene.

Great little throwback to a now-archaic style of games that goes the extra mile by being programmed in DOS. Not incredibly long or complex, though the typing-based interaction can be quickly tiring if you find it unintuitive. Lot's of neat little graphical flairs and interesting lore. Don't be afraid to reference the walkthrough in the guides if you get stuck. It's an audio-visual treat regardless.
