I've had a lot of fun playing Territory, despite it being in alpha/early access there is already plenty there to play around with and I can tell that there is a lot of potential for the finished game. Being an early access game, it does come with what you'd expect, it can be a bit clunky at times, there are bugs that need fixing, it could use a bit more content and so on. The dev is working on Territory as the sole main developer, which is pretty crazy for a game with the scope of Territory, but considering he has THE most ridiculous work ethic I have ever seen (he's averaging about one and a half patches EVERY SINGLE DAY for the last month and a half), I doubt that it will take long to resolve these problems and move towards the finished game. The dev is also very active on discord, so if you find a bug or have a suggestion you can let him know so that he can take a look when he has time (but he is also just one person with a life to live outside of game dev, so don't always expect an immediate response and/or patch). Territory seems to be aimed towards something akin to Rust or Escape From Tarkov, but with more of a PvE focus rather than PvP, which is something that I'm very excited about seeing as I love the more realistic side of the looter shooter archetype but often find that PvP can makes things very punishing and stressful at times (call it a skill issue if you must haha). Overall, it doesn't make too much sense to review an early access game as it might currently stand due to its ever-changing and unfinished nature, but even so I've enjoyed my time playing Territory and can't see any reason that the amount of fun you'd be able to get out of it would go anywhere other than up as the dev continues to work on it and add more content.
I had high hopes for this game, but it appears it was for naught! First, the mechanics of this game is really clanky. Base building and repair is broken. Some walls can be repaired and some cannot. Second, there are random sounds going off in the game: girl scream, shots, and wolves when nothing is around. When you drop something on the ground, it disappears and ends up in a loot bag somewhere else. It’s a repetitive sandbox of shooting enemies, the seem to resurrect after despawning, crappy loot, and no point to the game overall. We talked with the dev in his Discord, after about the 2nd complaint he started ignoring me and my buddy. I don’t think this guy has any real intention on making this game more mainstream. It’s just a weekend project he toys with after whatever he does in his real life. The developer also seems to have a bad attitude when people make suggestions for change. His excuse is, ‘Do you want everything in the game at the beginning?’ He also banned my buddy from the discord after his numerous complaints, and only reinstated him when I inquired about it, without acknowledging it. I would not recommend this game to anyone. At least not until a lot of the mechanics are fixed, a plot to the game is developed and the dev changes his attitude! *Developer banned my and my friend after our negative comments on his temper tantrum. I hope I save many from wasting $10 on this waste of a agame. Check out Sons of the Forest for a real Beta!
Broken, Boring and slow progression, after crafting and pretty much doing everything you can do in the game, I dont see any point in playing anymore other than for testing and giving the dev feedback that he doesn't appreciate or maybe he just has bad communications skills. Im going on vacation, I'll see where its at in a few months. Edit: The developers response to my review pretty much sums up his attitude towards any negative feedback in discord.
I bought this game a few days ago have just over 10 hrs so far. the game has a LOT of potential am enjoying it so far with just a couple of nit picks .#1 the terrain is a little sparse. but being a game in Alpha ,& with the DEV. doing updates & patches quite often i have great hopes 4 the game. the #2 nit pick or should i say BIG BAD BUG!! is the hunter AI some times attack my base from UNDERWATER!! does damage 2 my base (i built next 2 a pond) i can find them but no matter what i do i cant kill them. im pretty sure the DEV . didnt mean 4 this 2 happen so if your reading this pleas fix this bug, my base is getting destroyed & i cant do anything about it. So keep up the good work ,love playing, cant wait 2 c what else u have in store 4 the baby. Glenn.
I spawned in for the first time and died a second later while still in the tutorial because of a npc stood right behind me. Respawned and died again instantly by a NPC . Respawned the third time right in front of a car which I looted, I didn't had the time to organize myself cause of a bear had different thoughts about it. Tried again, found some sort of tower, climped on it and got shot by god knows who or what. Dying is part of a survival game and I die alot in these games and I don't mind. But this time I had no fun to try for a fifth time. I asked for a refund
I have been playing the game in Early Access, and this review is based on the Alpha 5.101 version. The game is challenging, intentionally. This is not a bad thing, just be ready to die a few times. Once you can get the moves and crafting necessary to start surviving, it is very rewarding. It has a unique feel from some of the other survival games I have played, which can at times get formulaic. Create widget, get better resources, create uber widget, profit. This game does not feel that way to me so far. The struggle to get food and water is always a consideration, and the wildlife will kill you while you are trying to kill them. Fair game, so to speak. While you are out looking for food, there are also hunters looking for them. They come in groups of two or three, and do not stay clustered. Their camouflage works well, particularly if you have the graphics turned up to epic. And they will laugh when they shoot you. Kind of makes dropping them even more satisfying. Besides the loot. An interesting feature to me is the soundtrack. It does not just fill in space. Yes, when there is a threat, you can tell by the sound change before you can see the enemy sometimes. The special bit is that some of the non-threat soundtrack is very similar to the threat soundtrack. And there are quiet stretches, so that when the music starts, I feel my anxiety level go up. Regardless of what type of sound it is. Nice atmospherics. The game is early access, so if you are expecting a polished, big studio X product, this is not it. However, the game is quite playable, and the developer is very friendly, helpful, and accessible. That matters more to me. I am looking forward to seeing where this games goes.
This solo dev is steering this game in the right direction. Constantly updating improving and squashing bugs just about every day. Highly values player input in shaping the game. Definitely the solid makings of a fun time. This is what early access is about. Well worth it if you like the journey.
I really enjoyed the time I spent playing this game for the first time. It was done very well in my opinion. They do use assets, UI and such similar to many other survival games, but overall the fact they have made more progress within the game, and all it offers is so worth it for sure. The enemy, npc, zombies and all seem to work very well, making the combat enjoyable. Looting is solid, crafting & building are very nice, easily done, layed out very well, eliminating the frustration. I would highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys a fun and enjoyable survival game with a decent map, and the many mechanics and features the game has to offer :)
A fun survival/crafting game that has good potential. The Dev updates the game a lot and is pretty active on steam and discord, but remember this is a EA game so it's going to have bugs and balance issues and paid assets but with time these things will become better.
I can't play the game because I invert Y-axis in all my FPS games and this game does not support that. I read in the discussion section that the dev wants the costumer to get a third party to be able for that function, meaning that the dev won't do anything about that. I will refund the game since I can't play it. Don't know if the game is good or bad but I will NOT recommend it for players who play with inverted Y-axis.
