We all have inner demons that sometimes tell us to do the wrong thing. Savage Dragoon is in a constant battle to conquer the darkness lurking within himself...Also known as his "Dark Passenger". Where his story ends...You Decide... This game is based on a true story, that being my own and my constant battle against depression.

Nice!
Very nice game
Tears of a Dragon is a story-driven indie role-playing game developed and published by Back To Basics Gaming that prioritizes emotional honesty and player choice over spectacle or technical complexity. While it adopts the familiar structure and visual language of classic RPGMaker-style games, its true ambition lies in how it uses fantasy as a metaphor to explore deeply personal themes. Rather than presenting a conventional tale of heroes and villains, the game frames its journey around internal struggle, self-doubt, and the fight against one’s own darker impulses, giving the experience a sincerity that sets it apart from many small-scale RPGs. The narrative follows Savage Dragoon, a protagonist whose journey is shaped as much by his inner turmoil as by the external conflicts he faces. The story is intentionally flexible, with player decisions influencing character relationships, moral alignment, and ultimately the ending you receive. This branching structure encourages thoughtful engagement with dialogue and choices, as actions often have consequences that ripple forward rather than resolving immediately. The game does not rush its emotional beats, allowing themes of depression, guilt, and redemption to surface gradually through interactions, events, and self-reflection. This slow-burn approach gives weight to the story and reinforces the idea that personal growth is not linear or easily achieved. Gameplay mechanics remain grounded in traditional turn-based RPG design, offering party-based combat, a variety of enemies, and a broad selection of skills and abilities. With a sizable cast of playable characters, the game allows for experimentation with party composition and combat strategies, even if the underlying systems remain relatively straightforward. Battles emphasize preparation and resource management rather than complex tactics, serving as a functional framework that supports progression without overshadowing the narrative. While combat may feel familiar to veterans of the genre, it complements the story by reinforcing the idea of endurance and persistence rather than power fantasy. Exploration and dungeon design follow classic conventions, featuring towns, overworld travel, and challenge-focused areas that test both combat readiness and patience. Difficulty spikes can occur unexpectedly, requiring players to adapt or revisit their strategy, but the game’s flexible save system helps mitigate frustration. Being able to save at any time respects the player’s time and acknowledges the game’s emotional and mechanical demands, making it easier to engage with longer sessions or return after breaks without penalty. Visually, Tears of a Dragon embraces a retro pixel-art style that is modest but effective. Character sprites and environments are simple, yet expressive enough to convey tone and mood. The presentation does not attempt to compete with more polished indie RPGs, but its consistency helps maintain immersion. The soundtrack and sound effects play a subtle supporting role, reinforcing atmosphere rather than dominating it, and contributing to the introspective tone that defines much of the experience. What truly distinguishes the game is its emotional core. The story is explicitly informed by the developer’s personal experiences with depression, and that authenticity is felt throughout the writing. Rather than treating mental health as a plot device or superficial theme, the game approaches it with empathy and seriousness, using fantasy elements as symbolic representations of real internal battles. For players who resonate with these themes, the game can feel cathartic and validating, offering a sense of understanding rather than easy answers. That said, the game’s limitations are evident. Technical polish is modest, and some mechanics lack the refinement or clarity found in more commercially ambitious RPGs. Occasional balance issues, interface quirks, and pacing inconsistencies can disrupt the flow, particularly for players accustomed to streamlined modern design. However, these rough edges often feel secondary to the game’s intent, which is clearly focused on expression and connection rather than perfection. Ultimately, Tears of a Dragon is a heartfelt indie RPG that succeeds through sincerity rather than scale. It offers a meaningful journey shaped by choice, reflection, and emotional vulnerability, wrapped in a familiar fantasy framework that makes its themes approachable without diminishing their impact. For players who value narrative depth, personal storytelling, and games that are unafraid to tackle difficult emotional territory, it provides an experience that lingers long after the final decision is made. While it may not appeal to those seeking mechanical innovation or visual polish, its emotional resonance and earnest design make it a memorable and worthwhile entry in the indie RPG space. Что-то там шпилька про настоящую борьбу автора с депрессией и тд и тп. Надеюсь автор не бегун, а то ещё кеды в угол поставит
I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay. After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like. Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends. Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together. Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that. Thank you.
