In my opinion, this is the weakest of the 4 Sonic Racing games currently on steam. I can still recommend it, but barely. At its core, it's a very competent kart racing game. The driving is fun, the tracks are fine, the character is there, audio and music are pretty good, too. Team Adventure was a good idea in theory, but it has bad execution and it explains why they didn't bother to have a story mode in Sonic Racing: Crossworlds. The story segments are all one note, not animated, and don't really add much to the game's presentation. The team racing aspect is easily abusable by constantly transferring and requesting item boxes to your teammates as much as possible and the special itself only seems to amount to you having a speed-up for an extended period of time. It also seems like most of the game's race tracks are just recycled from the previous 2 titles, so while they're fun to race on, we've seen most of them before. It's also extremely annoying where it seems you get penalized HEAVILY when you get hit. Often you'll come to a complete stop, other times you won't be able to start moving for a period of time. The game DOES do some cool team mechanics like the slingshot and basically what is a more annoying version of the slipstream mechanic from crossworlds, but only with your teammates. Sometimes the sudden speed ups that you get from your teammates are so fast you careen into a wall. This'll be fun to play at a significant discount if you've played the other 3 and just looking for something else. Otherwise skip this one. This "recommend" I'm giving has a heavy "*" next to it. It's not a bad game, but it's outshined by the other 3 sonic racing titles available.
get it if it’s on sale, singleplayer is fun on its own
Difficulty Overall : 6/10 Approximate Amount of Time Required for 100% : 20-25 hours. I had a pretty good time with this kart racer. What makes it different is the focus on teamwork instead of just individual racing. You’re constantly working with your teammates by sharing items, giving each other boosts, and trying to stay coordinated. It felt a bit strange at first compared to other games in the genre, but once I got used to it, it became pretty fun. The racing itself feels smooth and responsive, and the tracks are colorful and varied. There are multiple routes and shortcuts in each course, so there’s a nice amount of replay value if you want to improve your times. Drifting and boosting are simple to learn but satisfying to master over time. The team system is the main idea here, and it works well in some moments. When everything clicks and your team is cooperating, it feels really rewarding. Other times, though, the AI teammates can be frustrating, especially when they don’t perform as well as you expect. Outside of the main gameplay, there’s a decent selection of characters and some customization options that help keep things from feeling too repetitive. The music is energetic and fits the style well, even if it’s not particularly memorable. Overall, it’s a solid kart racer with an interesting idea behind it. It doesn’t reach the level of the biggest games in the genre, but the team-based mechanics give it its own identity, and I enjoyed my time with it, especially when playing with friends.
The game is unplayable piece of crap, at least as single play game. On easy it is too easy. On normal AI is too cheating. Play crossworlds. Its online, at least, is more or less alive.
This is one of those racing games where they have great graphics and cool drift mechanics and inventive fun courses, and little lightning bolts and projectiles that come out of nowhere and spin you out and take you from first place to last place in an instant. There is awesome game here, but it's really not any fun to just get constantly knocked out of progress by things you have no control over or way to see coming. It'd probably be fun in multiplayer.
At least the roster makes sense unlike the garbage that was Transformed. But this game lacks content and features. There only one mode and 12 characters but you're forced to play as a certain one because of the car types of speed tech and power. Meaning if you want to win a race you have to play only as Sonic. The tracks are just repeats from the past two games basically with very little alterations. There's no battle mode (the best mode in a Mario Kart). The music is generic and forgettable. There's no fan service or love for SEGA and its history compared to the first game. But its still more fun than Transformed that's for sure. The AI doesn't always cheat and you have a fair chance of winning and you don't need to place first always just to unlock a new character thank god. TSR just needed more characters, the ability to choose your car type, more customization, no stupid loot crate system, better music, better tracks, and it could've been decent. But as is you're getting a very mediocre game that you can live without playing. Just play Sonic & All Stars Racing instead despite the PC port not being great.

Fun competitive/co-op Kart racer with great tracks, a killer soundtrack, extensive vehicle customization and a lengthy, challenging story mode.
