I've been loving playing this and am keen to find out what comes next - feels like there's so much still to explore plus an exciting roadmap. I rarely get hooked on a game, but this has the same addictive magic as Stardew, but with a pokemonesque element of having to research and get all the different animals. The characters, world and quests are all great so far and there are some nice quality of life improvements (like easily fulfilling villager requests without chasing that person around and reminders to feed animals before bed). The animal parts are what makes this for me. First the 'standard' farm animals - they're just a bit more fun. There's llamas (in scarfs) and the geese are noticeably naughty, what's not to love? The wild animals though, wow! They're a mix of real (buzzards, frogs), mythical (griffins, jackalopes) and unique (brynja, sentarons) - I've not even seen all the animals yet. Once you've seen them wandering around, it's hard not to want to find out about them and try and get them to join your farm. It's got that same magical feel of wonder as finding new gen pokemon. Plus plenty of animal antics. The farming experience overall is good. Plants, watering, all that lovely stuff. Getting auto-feeders isn't made too hard, so you can get farming fast and enjoy going round brushing all the animals. Being able to edit the farm terrain is something new too. I've not been into the design/decoration in games much but having it a little easier in this game and making it impact what animals you can get has got me trying it. Same with the crafting mini game just lifting the standard workbench experience to be more interesting. The big draw for me is that this feels like a game that can grow - there's so much space on the map and room for more animals. I eventually ran out of inspiration with Stardew. But I'd be straight back to re-terrain my farm and grow new plants if I thought there was a new type of jackalope!
There’s a lot I really like about this game. The karma task system is cool, and I really like the character pictures when you talk to people. I did run into a couple of issues, but the developer reacted really quickly and fixed them for me overnight.
This is a nice take on the genre, and strikes a nice mix between newer farming games and the older ones (I got some HM64 vibes!). The animal husbandry is the central point, and I’ve not seen the terrain changing features on a game like this before. I also really like the music. The developer told me that right now there isn’t seasonal variations of the music, but there will be before it leaves early access. I haven’t hit any issues but on the Discord it shows a few people have, but they get fixed quickly. All told, there’s a lot of content for an early access game, and there’s more being added pretty constantly.
Doesn't have the flexibility to play your own way like Stardew does. The first hour really draws you in, and then the residents start nagging you to do things for them like a bad spouse. "Let's see how much karma you can get from helping out the town" before you can use the workshop, for example. So it feels more like you are their servant than helping people. Personally I like to avoid standard farm animals in games because the idea of it stresses me out due to how they are treated in real life, but early on I lost karma for skipping the "chicken drop" and I can't fulfill the town's "request" (a.k.a. mandatory order if you want to use the workshop) to provide eggs. The woman who sells animal feed is around less often than Pierre, so I had to release my first three wild animals back into the wild right away because I didn't know she would be closed all weekend, and they would have gotten sick if I hadn't let them go. Overall I think the game has a lot of potential and really hooked me at the start with terraforming, studying wild animals in their native habitat, and some of the early story dialogue which is quite witty, but it stopped being fun and I won't continue playing it. Leaving a positive review because of how hard indie dev life is
I found this gem while wandering around the simulation games when it was in early access. I got the game for $7, and after playing I can say it definitely has content on par with many $20 games. Fresh things TA brings to the genre: -Heavier emphasis on ranching vs farming, but farming still has some variety -While most farming games have low tech, this setting has high tech-- not only sprinklers but even terraforming -Emphasis on land stewardship and nature conservation -A huge amount of wild animals, which you can befriend to have them live on your farm, or move them to the conservatory for research and tourism -Wild animals are unique and interesting, including many fantasy beasts and cryptids, like the jackalope, griffin, and manticore, alongside real animals, such as foxes, deer, and capibara -A karma system rewarding the player for doing good deeds, such as restocking the community firewood bin -Mystical fae leave gifts of essence for players, and you can learn alchemy to make magic fertilizers, on top of regular crafting for things like bird perches, small animal traps, beehives, and sprinklers. There is no romance in this game, but the characters are unique and full of life. There are 5 levels of affection/friendship for animals and villagers. The game has four seasons and various festivals which allow you to compete for trophies. As you build up your ranch, there are a variety of events based on date, NPC friendship, and even some triggering depending on which animals live on your farm. (I recommend keeping a Brynja for at least a few seasons.) You can upgrade various aspects of your ranch, and also in town to help attract tourists. There are three different wild area biomes including the swamp, forest, and dunes. There are various spots to fish, and the fishing minigame is more involved than other games of this type. You can craft different types of lures which specialize in different types of fish. You can collect various bugs, fish, and animal byproducts, the last of which you can put on display in your conservatory. (A lot like a museum.) Overall, this is a really great game, especially for the price. It adds a unique spin on the farming/ranching genre, and the dev is very responsive to feedback and bug reports on the game's discord. Definitely worth a try for people who love this type of game!
Tales of Autumn is a super fun game! If you enjoy a relaxing story based farming game, then this is for you! Taming and raising animals is refreshing and feels very unique. Would recommend this game to anyone who loves the genre
Pros: Unique farming sim with raising animals, similar to Viva Pinata where you need a certain amount of area to have a new creature join in. The NPCs are cute There's lots of quests in the beginning Lots of cut scenes for plot A lot of different creatures and events Cons: The world is too big for the amount of decor, making it look empty I can't figure out where to find the fishing guy, PLEASE LET ME FISH I can't figure out how to learn more about the creatures, I'm just talking to them everyday hoping they'll join me eventually The days are really short (I think every farming sim should have a way to increase the length) Its hard to find people sometimes I'm not sure why my carrots aren't growing, its been 5 days Will be playing more to meet new animals, I have so much fun finding new ones. Its def the highlight of the game. Overall would recommend, especially since the price is pretty good! Finished? No Steam Achievements? Very grindy! Steam Deck? Haven't tried Rating? - (Haven't played enough for a solid opinion) My curator page: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45865425-CozyAriGames/ Full videos on Youtube
This is a very fun, relaxing game. The art for the animals is really cute, and I love the mechanic of building a home that animals want to live in, in order to entice them to stay! The crafting has fun mini games which adds a nice challenge. This is exactly the type of game I like to play after a stressful work day or to relax on a weekend. I even bought a copy for my sister so we could discuss events and animals! This game is early access but the developer has been super responsive and quick to reply. I am excited to see more of this game as the dev continues to grow it.
I’m really enjoying this game so far. The animals are cool, I’ve not seen these in farm games before. I just unlocked fishing but haven’t tried it yet. The townspeople are an interesting group. I hope for romance to be added!
I generally don't post reviews, but the developer (a soloist) has been incredibly patient and responsive to people requesting help or needing small bug fixes, and I've been enjoying the game tremendously. Okay, I know, "The developer fixes bugs when you find them" isn't much of a reason to buy the game. Buy it because it's fun. It's another entry in the Stardew Valley genre, only this time you're a rancher acquiring and raising animals both mundane and mythical. There's farming, too, but the emphasis and the charm are in the animals. You also have a pet cat. It says up there that I've played about 40 hours. That doesn't count my time in offline mode. The real number is at least twice that. I dropped a Hamilton to buy this, and I'll get at least 100 hours out of it. Ten cents per hour of entertainment is a pretty good rate for a game.
