This game is pretty good, especially if you are a fan of the previous game (Loren the Amazon Princess)! It is not necessary to play the previous game, but it's probably better if you do so. The canon choices made to continue the story make sense, and I am fine with them. The main storyline of this game is really fun and interesting, there's a lot of grey morality and situations where you really can go either way. There are a few interesting branching moments too, where you can make different choices and see some different scenes, so it's pretty easy to get yourself into doing a second playthrough. There are several ultimate outcomes to the main story, so you can replay for different endings too, alongside replaying for the different romance routes. All the characters, especially Lydia and Apolimesho have really interesting viewpoints, and I am very curious about how Ashtran will continue to be important moving forward in the series. I really like the character Gruff, but their sprite really sticks out as looking different and a little more low-quality than everyone else's. The lineart and the coloring too just don't look quite right. I still really enjoyed Gruff though, and it was fun to see a nonbinary character where it wasn't really a 'big deal' that they're nonbinary. Character-wise, Gruff is heartfelt and a little bit of comedic relief, but they're written really sweetly. The game includes a Codex now, which is super cool. I'd definitely look forward to seeing this ironed out/polished more in the future, this is a very cool feature, but what is in place so far is pretty low-key, which is fine. Like many RPGs, this game starts out more difficult and then becomes a bit too easy as you move on/understand the mechanics more. The battle system is still fun, although it took me a bit to get used to the menus. I think the designs in Loren were better and more clear, and some of the interfaces in this game feel a bit clunky. Definitely not that bad once you get used to them though. I do wish the game didn't get so much easier once you have some levels, the difficulty feels really unbalanced at the start. You are basically able to level yourself up to have every single skill fully upgraded if you do all the side tasks, so you can experiment with your build. You are best off fully upgrading abilities/focusing on levelling them instead of evenly leveling across the board, as the only really useful versions of the abilities are the final ones (in some cases). The gearing system isn't bad either. If you find a piece of gear that has an ability you like, then you can use materials to upgrade it. I do wish there were more materials in the game for upgrading--I have only really been able to upgrade maybe 1 or 2 character's weapons before running out, and that means everyone else just got new weapons from the vendors. The romance options are fun and interesting, I really enjoyed the continuation of Myrth's route, and the issues that arise as she and Saren are continuing to be together. I thought that was really well done. I also did Nathir's route, and I really liked how being on his route made you learn a few new things about him that you didn't know before. My only issue with the romances is that they seem to be very focused on the physical attraction aspect, which is expected to be the case in a game with romance, but it felt a little too heavy for me? I am always less interested in that, so the emphasis on physical attraction took me out of it a little bit, and I felt like this game didn't have as much of a true connection between the characters. With Myrth, this was fine for me, since the characters have previous history, but it was really in my mind during the Nathir route, where I didn't entirely feel a full connection between the two characters. It was still really fun though, and I look forward to doing Rei and Lydia's routes later. Overall though, this game was really fun! I look forward to the other upcoming games a lot! This was a great first step into continuing the stories of Saren/Elenor! (I especially can't wait for the game that'll focus on Loren and the Amazons--!!)
It's no bad But wish it had more romance options
Great spin-off is really faithfull to Loren: The Warrior Princess in both RPG battle dinamic and romancing characters. I miss the other characters though, especially Loren and Karen. Lydia and Nathyr are very layred and intriguing characters that go well with the world of Aravorn rich story telling, and Gruff is really funny (and nonbinary, yay!. It isn't as epic, sorroful, moving or deep as Loren: The Amazon Princess but it has great and beautiful moments and is a really fun play. But did not placate my longing for Loren: The Amazon Princess though, and I hope there are more spin-offs to come (hopefully with Loren, Karen and the other characters as well.) I think part of the yearning is because you play again as Elenor (or Saren) and leaving the others romances behind— and my end game that would be either LorenxElenor or KarenxEIenor— to romance Lydia or Nathyr is hard to do. On the other hand not persuing romance, my favorite part of Winter Wolves games (although I love the RPG aspects as well) is not doable either, so I found myself on a tought spot. There are some brief nostalgic mentions of Loren, Karen and other characters though. I missed the epic classic battle songs of the original game too. But play it, really fun game and the new romantic interests are sweet. It discusses some of Loren: The Amazon Princess main concerns, as prejudice, war, otherness, fredoom and choice, as well as the concept of evil. The game has an enphasis on the problem of ethics vs. politics— the main plot is about a political marriage, after all— and the question of faith vs. reason (embodied in the two love interests, Nathyr and Lydia, respectively). Lydia is a hero worthy of inheriting Loren's proeminet whole in Loren: The Amazon Princess, but unlike Loren, her strenght is more of the mind and sense of justice and equality than that of the body and the heart— but equally (or almost equally— Loren is a tough match!) of the will. Her strenght and determination to overcome any kind of bigotry, encompassing not only all ethnic groups, but transceding them (theme of the game best illustrated by Ellisar egualitarian community, that echoes similar concerns in other Winter Wolves's games, such as Kraken's story in The Curse of Mantras). At first I liked better Loren The Amazon Princess's art style (perhaps the millenial in me sees it as more reminiscent of older games style), and still do, but Aravorn Tales: A Elven Marriage style has grown on me as I played. The same happened to the soundtrack. I still prefer Loren The Amazon Princess's ost but the tunes, specially the battle ones (that are epic and catchy), put us in the mood to beat the "villain of the week" as in 90's animes— have grown on me. The positive take on miscegenation, already present in Loren The Amazon Primcess, is here taken an step further, and voiced through Lydia, who makes it her political project to emancipation of all populations and ending of wars.
As someone who played the original Loren a few years ago, this a really good sequel! I've heard of how original there was going to be a Loren 2, but was scrapped due to how ambitious and large it was. So instead it's being split into 4 games with this one, Elven Marriage, being the first of them which is imo the best decision given how large Loren 2 would've been lol Story/Characters: While not as grand as the original Loren, it was still a really good story. Along with the main quest, there are small side quests that help expand the story of the main area the game takes place and like in Loren some of the quests and choices made in them can make both small and big impacts for the later story. Especially when comes to the "final choice" to make depending on certain relationships which i won't spoil, while not as dire as Loren TAP's ending, it does determine whether things go smoothly and badly with the people who are critical to the story. The main cast that travel with us are also really awesome with our old companions Myrth and Rei and new companions Nathir and Lydia. Along with the old cast, the new two characters are pretty interesting with Lydia the leader of the Moon Elves who is determined to ensure her people's place in Aravorn, even when she has to make tough decisions like some during the game and Nathir a knight-priest who follows a goddess of chance and fortune, and he does a pretty good job especially during his camp talks to describe on how his religion operates within his nation of Paqwana. Romance: One of my favorite things with Loren, it's related series and other games that have it, is it romance. This one did not disappoint, i went with Lydia on my first play through and it was a really wholesome and interest route to go through as well as seeing how Elenor/Saren build up towards it the "lock in" scene for her and the last couple of unique scenes leading up the final "love scene". Really glad the old romances are just as important as the new ones with their own unique romance dialogue sprinkled in the mix. Though i kind of miss how in Loren TAP, depending on the story progression and your affection level with them, a unique scene will play out to show the growing love blooming between the characters other than the romance dialogue options. Gameplay/Exploration: So glad that the gameplay and exploration of this game is essentially an upgraded version of how it was in Loren. the turn base gameplay is just as interesting as it was in Loren with the exception of all the elemental weaknesses condensed into one element. Which is fine with me since trying to manage all the weaknesses in Loren was a bit of a hassle due to how many there were lol. Exploring the map feels just as great as it was in the original too and the best improvement was the Campsite now showing not only your current affection/friendship towards a certain character but also shows if the have new dialogue instead of just asking every one in camp after a major mission in the original to see if they have new dialogue. The new crafting mechanic done at the camp is really useful and makes it so that you can progressively get stronger with gear obtained from battle or shops. Especially when it comes to upgrading unique and legendary items obtained during quest since if they are really strong or interesting to use, they won't get left behind by stronger low rarity equipment you may obtain later in the game. Art: Its very fortune that almost all of the art from the original artist of Loren, who was also working on the scrapped sequel, managed to get their artwork into this game keeping the old yet improved artstyle of the original that we are familiar with while also adding new ones that don't feel too different that they feel like they belong in a different game. Really awesome to see some of the old cast rocking new outfits and designs in their improved artstyle too! Can't wait to see how the others will look in future ToA games. Conclusion: Overall this game serves as not only a great sequel to Loren but also a great stepping stone for the next upcoming games that in a way make up the next "saga" of Loren universe. If you love Loren The Amazon Princess or Cursed Lands and the characters and stories told from said games, you'll definitely enjoy Elven Marriage just as much! Awesome game you and the others made Winter Wolves! And im looking forward to Reign of War and the other ToA games when they release!
Stand alone, this is a good game but the first one is definitely on a whole different level. Pros: The ideal, the story and characters are quite good, I really like Lydia' character, Nathir is okay. Combat is improved greatly, I like it. There are so many background and music is lovely Cons: The writing is mid, dialogue is not as smooth, thorough and charming like Loren the amazon princess; Romance writing is normal. Like, I know what the author want to convey but the way it shows is not heartfelt like the first one. Especially, comparing with the new one, Saren/ Elenor's character in The amazon princess Loren is so much better built and they look more adorable too. That's why I can replay again and again and still find new thing to enjoy, for example, when I try romance Saren with Loren is much different story from Elenor with Loren or the way everyone interact with Saren and Elenor is different and unique, like they really are two different people, not just choosing gender, that's why I love the first one so much. To be fair, An elven marriage is still a good game and because I'm a fan of Winterwolf, I tried every routes and got all achievements. I'm hoping for the next one, definitely will get it at first day sale ~
I can not get r18 dlc in china, anyone can tell me what to do?
Already finished a playthrough in beta on itch.io, did a bit of save scumming to get both Lydia and Nathir's romances. When it was announced that the Loren sequel was split into four games I was skeptical, however after playing this I must admit that each romance is more developed and left me more satisfied than I expected. I plan to finish the game again with Myrth (can't stand Rei, sorry!) and maybe also experiment one of the other endings (I got the one with Lamia, my favorite secondary character of this story). Looking forward to the next spin-off with Jul and Breza!
It's nice to get a narrative followup to Loren. No complaints over here, wanted more Loren Amazon Princess and got very much that.
Wonderful sequel.
