Great fun, been a long time since I got stuck in a game and didn't want to stop playing. Tips Be fast to find stable water source because hunger is easier to satisfy than thirst. Berries are all over and fishing is relatively easy. Great work on the game and keep it up. Will be fun to see what more comes from this creator.
GENERAL REVIEW: This game has A LOT of potential and i'm liking it a lot and i'm going to keep playing it. -------------------------------------------------------------------- DEV REVIEW: I'm gonna talk about some game aspects that the DEVs might find helpful. Things that really really need to be looked at: - Movement and game feel> Movement feels slugish, it has some amount of inertia that feel awful. Player starts moving waay too late after the key has been pressed, same thing applies when stopping, player keeps moving for a fraction longer than it should. - UI> Some quality of life improvements need to be made. Dragging an item outside the inventory should automatically drop it. Right clicking an equippable item should automatically equip it. Interaction buttons (for example when interacting with crops) should NOT jump around after they appear. Crafting list should not jump around when the player uses the mouse wheel and reaches the end of the list. -Item Picking> Again, item around the player take a second to be picked up. This 1~2 seconds delay doesn't feel right. I think this game was programmed on game maker (because of an error log i got calling some "GML" stack trace). If that's the case i realize everything runs on a single thread (and that could explain the "delay" on some actions), but devs might want to take a look in disabling instances far away or applying some techniques to improve the overall performance. Here is an idea: Divide the entire map into a fixed sized grid (lets say each chunk is 32 x 32 tiles), keep active every instance in the chunk the player is at, also keep active the instances in the chunks surrounding the players chunk. When player moves from one chunk to another, add a timestamp to the chunks that are getting disabled and disable every instance in those chunks. Then when a chunk is loaded, elapsed time can be calculated as now_timestamp - chunk_previous_timestamp. That elapsed time can be used to calculate in one iteration every newly loaded instance state (crops should now be grown by elapsed_steps x growth_per_step, crafting stations should have crafted elapsed_steps x craft_per_step, etc..) As a final comment, i really like this game concept. Its a great twist to the stardew-survival formula. Please, don't take this review as a deterrent, on the contrary, keep up the good work! I'll be looking forward the next updates. Cheers!
This game need a EARLY ACCESS label. The game itself is really fun to play, the crafting and surviving aspect all working fine. But... - the character movement and combat control are clunky, below are the 2 major whine from me 1. it was awfully hard to align the actual attack hit point to make it land on the monster / creature. 2. the farming watering system are sooo bad there is no way to tell whether you did water the crops or not other than stand there to wait to see if the crops grow or not. and most of the time watering crops didnt work. 3. the random delay to pick up an item on floor is F annoying. - inventory system is really really bad. 1. there are hundreds of items to collect in the wild and in the year of 2020 we still have VERY LIMITED inventory slots to carry stuff and there are no freaking way to increase it.(correct me if i am wrong, thank you) 2. Chest slot is another joke, 8 slot per chest. And to make it worst accessing a chest is another big FUSS to do so. First you need to click on the chest then wait for the chest to response to pop up search command to choose then only u can access it... (and i know later tier chest have more slots) 3. the freaking pop up warning u when u have not enough slot to get the stuff on floor is driving me crazy. - bug / crash 1. equip the iron lamp will sometime crash the game. it happen to me and i lose over 3 hours of progress. Other than above some complaint i have, i really recommend it to others if you like this genre of game and can accept the old old lovely pixel art. BUT FIRST PLEASE WAIT A BIT MORE TO LET THE GAME COOK
Surviving Titan is very interesting survival title. It has a lot of enemies to beat, mobs to tame, npc to talk, items to craft and quests to do. You can even build your own house, plant vegetables and just settle instead of escaping from planet. I really love the artstyle of the game, it's very similar looking to Stardew Valley. There is not many survival games with that camera angle (most of them are made in full 3d these days). The main goal of the game is to repair ship and escape from the planet, during this process you can met many npc that help you do that (I met fisherman, builder and engineer that can make some fishing and find resources for me). World is randomly generated so you can actually play it almost endless. On the map you can find many caves and points of interest to explore and loot. Resources are respawning after few ingame days so you don't need to rush with doing quests. I can recommend this game for sure, for 5$ there is more than enough content and I can't find any bugs or cons of the game.
Nov 7, 2020 edit: Sadly seems like the dev may have abandoned the game, last update was 5 months ago. I still definitely recommend it in its current state and price! ----- Really loving this game. It is *heavily* influenced by Crashlands (like a lot, close to the same story, basically the same theme song, little robot follows you and guides you, pets, teleporters, lots of similarities to almost rip-offs, but it's great). It's basically Crashlands with pixel graphics and quite a bit more survival elements thrown in. As of 25 hours over only 3 days, I've only had one freeze up but the game saves constantly so I started back up right where I was, no progress lost. The game still needs tweaking as far as balance goes, there's little to no penalty for not eating/drinking/sleeping and you end up with absolutely massive amounts of crops, but none of this is really a downside currently. It ends up being too easy but that's fine with me since it's more casual. Absolutely worth it at 5 bucks and I'd happily pay double that, It's developed alongside the mobile app (with no IAPs) so I'll probably end up buying that, as well. Some things you can do in this game off the top of my head - * Build a base * Manage survival aspects - health, food, water, energy (no premium currency, just eat, drink, sleep as needed) * Advance through stages of technology, crafting lots of different tools and items * RPG aspects - Level up several skills and go through the skill tree * Collect pets that can fight with you * Farm lots of different crops + farm animals (chickens, cows), cooking * Tame and ride horses * Explore caves, get loot from chests * Kill tons of different kinds of mobs and craft stuff from drops * Gather NPCs to survive with you, trade with them * Fight some bosses, collect some runes, figure out some secrets * Explore 5(7? counting caves and ocean I guess) different biomes with unique flora and fauna (Forest, Ice, Swamp, Jungle, Desert) Lots more, overall a fantastic game, the dev seems very responsive and is constantly updating, with plans of eventually adding multiplayer. This game is an absolute steal at $4.99 ~~~~~~~~~~~~ A few tips: + You can bind attack to your right mouse button, do that, disregard reviews about clunky controls after. + Start looking for caves and npcs pretty much right away, you get a lot of advanced loot from the chests and! you can pick up the chests, it's free storage; you can also pillage the npc camps for crafting stations, wells, and more + Speaking of picking up - You can pick up pretty much anything, just click "Destroy" (I hope the dev changes that word to accurately reflect that you're picking it up and not actually destroying it) + When you pick something up you also learn how to make it + Plant acorns as soon as you get them, harvest the tree, get more acorns from the harvest, plant more, rinse, repeat, suddenly you have more wood than you know what to do with -- + Burn that wood in the furnace for extra coal + Plasma rifle >>> pistol + Bone Sword+Bone Shield (drop from skeletons) >> Iron Sword >> Dagger+shield >>> hammer
last update was in 2021, no more updates/fixes. game is unfinished. great ideas and story, just never taken anywhere
dev fled the scene while claiming they have to remove the game over the word "surviving" being trademarked and has received a copyright claim due to it. dont know what the devs smoking, but you cant copyright claim a basic word like that less so when its only part of the name.
This game has an incredible amount of potential and I enjoyed it a lot, but it should definitely still be in early access. There are multiple story threads that aren't finished yet, I was looking forward to finding out how some things (artifacts, statues etc etc) works into the story or how it is atleast interactable, but the content hasn't been added yet. TLDR: As of the time of this review, this game is not complete yet and should still be in early access.
Seems to be a great idea of a game, with fun concepts. Sadly it is destroyed by a dev that tries his hardest to make the controls as painful as possible. I can't remember a single game in the past 25+ years that made basic actions as annoying and cumbersome as this game does. You basically need to rebind every single action to even come close to a modern setting and even then you are poised to do 3 times the clicks to get anything done. Really a rough gem of a game, if you can get past the controls. I personally can't and there are thousands of other games to play that don't make you head your head against a wall, just to move a step or swing an axe.
