Excellent throwback to the days of the SNES and the MegaDrive. The game is massively fun with bright, colourful levels and loads of secrets to find and depths to the gameplay. Highly recommended.
This game takes inspiration of mario but just does too many things much worse. The look of the game is just OK. The platforming and game work alright MOST of the time, however not enough it becomes frustrating. The hitxboxes are inconsistent, as I got hurt many times while landing on the top corner of an enemy but it not registering and just causing me to get hurt. The platforming is also a bit slippery, and sometimes the game eats your jumps. The bouncing jumps can also be somewhat inconsistent. The biggest problem is the repetition of how boring the game is. You are in the same environment the whole game, collecting the same items, and fighting the same few enemies, all centered around food and baking. Theres no new powers, or anything to change up the gameplay. Mario had a variety of environments. You even fight THE SAME EXACT BOSS 5x and he uses the same attacks. The game adds in some minecart levels and balloon levels but the latter is super floaty and imprecise to control, and the other the stage moves too fast its trial and error. The game also handles continues poorly. If you have full health and fall and die, you restart/continue with 1/3 health for no logical reason. No games do this because its the most asinine game decision of all time where you're punished for dying. You can buy health but its somewhat expensive especially in later levels where you need to retry as the levels can be longer and have more instant death traps. Theres also parts of levels where its basically impossible to not take damage based on how things are set up, which feels cheap and unnecessary. Overall the game is boring, with inconsistent and not tight platforming, the same environments and enemies, and a single boss fight repeated ad nauseum. Its not the worst game ever but it got old after 30 minutes. 5.5/10
