This game is very basic but it is also very fun and retro. :)
It takes more than that to make a good Super Mario Bros. alternative. Color palette is interesting. Level design is not half bad here offering some variety in terms of obstacles and foes. Main problem is that it doesn't offer much than beloved SMB. Even so nuances added to the game would make it much more interesting. So far it feels pretty basic so it's your call if you wanna play another Mario clone without spark.
Engaging adventure platformer with consistent and well designed art and music, steep difficulty curve and for a game with only 12 levels a surprising amount of play time. I was given a free copy to help promote the game through youtube, but I can honestly say that this game is worth the buy if you like difficult platformers. The first couple levels are relatively easy, but that goes away very quickly, the game becomes absurdly difficult towards the final few levels, and even more so if you go back and try to collect the different "100%" completion items such as gems or keys. Also worth noting, the game features a really unique and inspired mode called "Corruption mode" where the game loses all manner of sense, the levels become broken and distorted randomly on each respawn, a complete corruption of the original design, and usually much harder to beat than before (although in the case of some levels, easier). This corruption mode is something really unique that I personally havent seen before, and replaying levels in this mode can easily add potentially hours to your play time. Speaking of play time, dollar for dollar, hour to hour, this game is worth it IF you are someone who enjoys difficult platformers. As a general rule of thumb with games, if you cannot get an hour of entertainment from the game per dollar you spent, then the game was not worth the purchase. In this case, that is not true. I know I have less hours on the game than the cost, but hear me out. I have not beat the game, and maybe I never will, its quite frankly too difficult for me, I am not good at platformers. But that said, the 3 levels I did beat, and the amount of time I spent playing around in corrupt mode or trying to beat the 4th level, I am already over half my hour to dollar rule, and I have beat less than 1/3 of the game. In other words, this game is good, its got plenty of playtime to be worth the purchase, and the dev is a dedicated person who seems to really care about the game. While working with him leading up to my video preview and the launch of the game, any bugs found he took care of within the day, and all suggestions made were taken into consideration. Need I say more? Buy the game! Edit: Nominated for Best Game You Suck At Award
This game is very fun and challenging. The last levels were near impossible! Never having played a platformer before, this was a new experience for me. I've discovered a new genre of game I enjoy!
cool retro platform with tight controls. good visuals, and fun music!
Not a terrible game by any means, but very bland and average as far as challenging platformers go. The controls are okay but not super tight like in Super Meat Boy or Celeste, the level design is boring but passable, the graphics and music are decent but nothing special. The game is also very short — there are only 12 levels in total so you can easily beat the game in under 2 hours. For those looking for more of a challenge there are several achievements and difficulty modes which add replayability, but your time is probably better spent playing other, better platformers.
It can be fun and challenging but the later levels are infuriating, 3-2 and 3-4 especially may rot in hell. While the Super Mario 3 aesthetic is super pleasing, and the music is good, and the core level design is competent. Luckily it is short enough to not overstay it's welcome, I do feel like perhaps focusing more on fun and less on spine crunching difficulty would have made for an overall better product. The controls are also slippery as heck, multiple times I careened off platforms that didn't have any ice physics on them. I'm mixed on this one. Not bad enough to warrant a discouragement from purchase, there's a lot of competency and talent on display, but I'm not sure who to recommend this to. By world 3 I stopped having fun and was beating it just to beat it. Making two thirds of a good game just isn't enough.
The music composed by Vincenti Zghra is excellent and these tunes are similar to NES favorites. After you complete 3-4 which is the final level, you unlock a stage select from the menu screen. Nate's head sprite even changes if you can finish the game. Corruption Mode is a fun bonus mode. I must admit that I got stuck in level 2-4. The best controller I recommend is the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. I was able to finish the last level with a Switch Pro on Steam. I had more trouble playing this game using a Playstation 4 controller. In conclusion, I recommend buying this game on Steam. The price is affordable and the bonus modes add extra value. I admire the retro game design, because I am currently creating my first Gamemaker game. I would easily purchase a sequel in the future from Kupoapo Games.
