About
Super Gorilla Quest is an RPG about saving the world from humanity. In it, you play as a gorilla, alongside an orangutan, a chimp, and a bonobo, as you venture through various natural and man-made locations to stop humankind's plan. What plan? I guess you'll have to play to find out.
You, a gorilla in the jungle, awaken to find various workers cutting down the trees you live by. After defeating them, you discover a worldwide plot by the elite to secure humanity's grasp around the world. By what means? Something terrible. It's a spoiler, I think. But rest assured that it's not good, and as a team of apes, you must stop it at all costs.
Super Gorilla Quest is a turn-based RPG with light exploration and puzzle elements at the core. The gameplay involves exploring areas, finding items, and killing enemies and bosses. As the game goes along, the combat gets increasingly involved and requires some effort to do well. Revolutionary.

While the artwork may make this game seem like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ or an intentionally bad game, it's surprisingly a fun experience! It has quite the difficulty curve that tests the player's knowledge of the in-game mechanics, but mastery over the mechanics feels amazing once you figure it all out. The classical music got a bit much after a while, but the characters, dialogue, and "charmingly bad" art really make this game a hidden gem. For 2 bucks, this is a fantastic experience!
a very silly and fun game!
The game is actually good, and a fun experience with witty dialogue, 10/10(idk, i tried to give a quote that you would see on an award winning game, like this one should be)

If you want nonstop ape-brained nonsense, this is your game. I played this game to completion in Orangutan mode and I gotta say it was really fun! However, it isn't for everyone. I'll start with my issues with the game and I'll continue on to my praises -- having said that I didn't have a lot of issues with it but I do know some people might. ISSUES: The game is a bit rough around the edges when it comes to visuals and some music. Some music can be quite jarring or harsh since it can be repetitive. This is also kind of the neat thing about this game since it draws from other games that intentionally use harsh ambiances and music as a part of their aesthetic. This may not be for everyone though but even for the type of person who enjoys those sorts of games some fights might go on for too long with these sorts of sounds. The games dialogue is very funny but some of the characters act like the same character. There are a few notable characters with unique personalities but many of them tend to fit into 2 slots. 1 the grounded, deadpan character that provides dry humor or 2 the strange erratic character that is really weird. Many of them seem to have very similar speech mannerisms and personalities for this reason. I think this adds to the charm of the game as it is not trying to be overly complex with its art, story or dialogue intentionally but once again some people may not be able to overlook this. This may or may not bother people but there aren't really any side quests in this game. The game is pretty straight forward. It does have areas you can choose to explore if you want that aren't part of the main story but they don't really play like separate stories. Overall I tend to think not having any side quests can be bad in an RPG especially if there's extra places to explore since players may not get to fully appreciate the whole world in its entirety. Some of the characters aren't balanced correctly so I would sometimes have to turn them into item slaves since it may not be efficient to waste termites on them. Such as Orangutan which has high GP costs and not very strong abilities in return so I basically rarely used his abilities. Gorilla had 1 joke ability which was funny at first but later on I wish I had access to more abilities since he became a stun bot (which I'm assuming was the point). Chimpanzee and Bonobo had more diverse and useful moves but come later in the game so they take time to catch up to you in levels, albeit not very long! Since some of the enemies had pretty strong abilities that could wipe your whole team I was basically stuck to using the strategy of just stunning with Gorilla and spamming items with Orangutan which just felt like a disservice to those characters for me. PRAISES! :D The game is quite funny and has a really interesting use of dry humor in a lot of scenarios where it tends to skip dramatics. This fits the very grounded straight-man personality of the Gorilla who is somewhat the protagonist of the game. SGQ also plays like this. It doesn't draw you into annoying battles or fights and provides you with a lot of freedom. If you want to explore and collect cool items you can. If you want to fight enemies and farm up levels, you can but you don't have to! If you want to skip enemies in an entire dungeon, you can for the most part! It also changes these mechanics slightly depending on the level. So areas that would have enemies chasing you around do chase you around but other more casual areas won't. This adds some immersion to the game despite its silliness since most RPG's tend to just have you get assaulted anywhere and everywhere but SGQ is very aware of what kinds of behaviors maps should have based on the context and that's quite enjoyable! SGQ also rewards you for exploration. There are tons of strong enemies with cool drops hidden around the game and sometimes you just find really useful and cool items randomly. It's nothing unique or new but always nice to players rewarded for taking extra time to step away from the main story. This at least makes up for the no side quests thing. There is at least 1 place I can think of as a sort of a side quest but it doesn't really fit the bill i'd say. Nonetheless there's definitely tons to explore! It's fighting mechanics are pretty fun and enemies can be pretty strong at times. There's very easy access to certain items that make fights much easier and once you have a strategy it's pretty easy to defeat most bosses with said strategy but sometimes they'll have unique qualities that make you have to adapt as a player. The game has some really cool social and political commentary but delivers it in a way that's not so serious an apolitical person may get annoyed. A lot of it comes in the form of jokes but nonetheless it does leave you thinking about things. Like the nature of zoos or corporations. Some of the music is amazing and really fun. There's an eerie track that really gets to you in the zoo. The factory theme was also really nice. A couple of the boss themes were bangers. Overall, the game is full of whimsy and quirkiness. It's unapologetic about it too and doesn't mind being grungy. I think it has tons of charm for this and it doesn't come as laziness but uniqueness. It's something akin to a Diary of the Wimpy Kid or Space Funeral (which it very clearly draws from). It's a work of art and not some product with recycled art and themes. It is truly unique and made with love. To me that goes a long way and counts for a lot. The game is perfectly priced and definitely worth a play. It may not be perfect, it may even be too imperfect at times but it plays like art. Abstract avant-garde art but art nonetheless. Hylics was like that, Yumme Nikki was like that, and other games too and they're not always for everyone but they don't have to be! And neither does SUPER GORILLA QUEST!

This game is genuinely a joy to play. The dialog is funny, the art matches the feel of the game perfectly, and the story is great. Playing as a team of apes, you play through several environments trying to overcome the negative effects that a greedy corporation has had on you and your fellow wildlife. The enemies are unique and can definitely be challenging at times (thank you Bonobo for helping be feel like I don't suck). Definitely check this out if you are a fan of classic RPGs. This game has reminded me how fun the genre can be when it isn't weighed down by trying to be too serious and led me straight into other RPGs with that same intention. Also plays great on Steam Deck. Go play it!
After playing through this game on Itch earlier, I was please to see it come to Steam! The gameplay is the same here - fun traditional RPG action and exploration. The game's story line - an evil corporation comes to destroy the titular Gorilla's home and so he assembles an all star ape avengers to defeat them - allows for a lot of fun and funny dialog and interactions. It's genuinely laugh out loud funny at times! Overall, I highly recommend this for fans of RPGMaker games, traditional old school RPGs, and fans of our closest cousins - gorillas, orangutans, chimpanzees, and bonobos!
Super fun, very funny. Truly a sight to behold.
I just wanna say this, I was not expecting this game to be this great! It was intensely fun, had absolutely hilarious dialogue, and was just absolute craziness from beginning to end! I would absolutely recommend people to play, so underrated! Legit 9/10 game! But, not enough monke so THIS GAME IS -10000/10
solid little game, delighted
