Reviews
Now whilst I don't recommend this game initially - this does not mean the developer is doomed! As a lover of Super Mario and Katamari - I just think this game has alot of improvements. After getting through the levels (pretty quickly in 20 minutes might I add..) - the game does almost instantly have a repetitive feel to it.. this is more of a collector game and would most likely work better with achievement integration (being a achievement hunter styled platformer etc.).... The music and art style are probably the strongest points of the entire game though once again - music can get very repetitive very quickly, especially with the same repeating playstyle. Menu options are also limited alongside this with just three main choices. The game does NOT contain that big of a story alongside any form of VO work. For what its worth - its a good attempt at recreating old school 3D platformers from the golden age of Nintendo and did indeed take me back to a better time.. unfortunately the game just cant hit the itch for me unlike the other curator reviews here. Whilst I can agree this game is indeed beautiful, alot of these reviews unfortunately do ignore the fact of how limited this game can feel.. You should only really pick this up if you're okay with repeating map designs // collectables - though I would say to grab it if you enjoy the cutesy art style.
Final Verdict: 52/100
Poor: 0-74 (0-74%) Performance or gameplay falls significantly below the passing mark. cute little 3D platformer, very forgiving with plenty of checkpoints throughout, pretty chill experience overall.
Colorful little collect-a-thon platformer. But in my opinion, being able to jump so many times while you're in the air kind of ruins the challange.
Super Candle World is a delightful surprise. You can immediately sense the inspiration from classics like Super Mario 64 or A Hat in Time. The cartoon art style is crisp and colorful a refreshing change from games that try too hard to be realistic. What really works is the feel of the controls. They’re fluid, you get the hang of them quickly, and you’ll have fun exploring every nook and cranny to find the golden cookies. It’s simple, straightforward, and doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel with unnecessary mechanics: you jump, glide, and explore. Honestly, it’s been a while since I’ve had this much fun with a pure 3D platformer.
I liked the game but I also didn't love it either, I leave a positive review because I have more positive feelings than negative but it is close. As a whole the music left me rather bored over the last hour but in terms of sheer competency as a platformer I think it is rather okay. Not perfect, good but some issues exist, the flight and tall jump mechanics as well as environmental geometry allow many of the challenges to be easily bypassed and even then I think some of the 3d platforming when it wasnt taken advantage of could have been better but overall I think the dev did pretty okay. Bring your own music and it may be a better experience of about 1 ish hours but on sound not just music, "combat" or this games equivalent of taking out goombas in Mario has poor feedback in terms of visual or audio cues. I had more audio destroying the whipped cream swirls than the enemies that fall silently flat with hardly a visual impact visual either. I also think the enemies are underutilized and while having any at all does add something extra to the experience, I think more variety could have been good. It feels a lot like someone who was experimenting with mechanics for the first time, accomplishing competent results and they deserve to be proud of what they made, I look forward to Francois's future games and may check previous ones but the big thing I will hammer home for the dev if he reads this, good job, but please, music enjoyment is a subjective experience but please have a better soundtrack next time, the existing one is flat, and sucks the joy out of a game that I find visually very happy.
Mixed feeling about this game. The flying really irks me. But other than that, it seems very well made. And the price for an hour or two of enjoyment is definitely there. If I could rebind the keys I would have played a lot more.
Silly Fun
