Game take around 60-90 minutes to complete at 100%, short game but only priced at 3€. Overall, a pretty nice short 3d platform, with nice short levels to explore into colorful world, at the price of a coffee recommended :) 💚💚💚 • Nice pleasant colorful levels • Small price • Nice gameplay with a levitation jump & flying button. ❌❌❌ - Really short game. It's a charming and colourful 3D platformer. It doesn't innovate anything, but has its own little things, like flying for a short time, and its levels are varied and well crafted. The description says it takes about an hour, which I think is wrong, ’cause I've already played for over an hour, and I still have like half the levels ahead. There's a demo available, yet I bought it right away, ’cause I liked the other game from the dev, Vindilis, which is totally different from this one. Recommend checking that one out, too, it's good.
Thank you to the kind dev for a free review copy of the game! This game first and foremost gets my nr. 1 rule for 3d platformers right: Have fun movement! Sure it could be faster and slightly harder but for what it is is extremely satisfying! It's rather short but for the price it is well worth it for how fun it is. Plays smooth and the amount and severity of bugs were minimal as the ones found were rather amusing than game breaking. I do hope the dev keeps making games as this was fantastic!
Woohoo! This is such a cute and sweet (literally) game! Yes it's on the shorter side and yet... It has it's challenges. While the first level teaches you the basics and you might start to think "oh this is easy, it's a kids game". Nah. It'll get harder. Shortly afterwards. The hardest parts for me were the flying parts. Not because of the controls... But because my distance gauging is off in games lol. Also... Some chests... Were so freaking sneaky... And I have no one but myself to blame. T_T What else... Hmm... Well... If only you could sample the levels and the fast ship is a nice touch! :D The Developer is also cool, fast and responsive and I thank him for gifting me the game, as well as working out the bugs! Good job. Good luck and :).
Super Candle World is a cute 3D platformer that can be finished in around an hour and a half after getting the hang of quite the unusual set of controls. But first things first: you're a candle collecting cookies in small worlds that are unlocked the more cookies you collect, so getting all of them per world is ideal. For that to happen, you'll need to fly. As a candle, you have a surprising amount of mobility: sprinting, double jumping, hovering and, as mentioned, flying. Most of your time on (or close to) land will control as expected of a character in a 3D collectathon traversing mostly 3D levels with some decent verticality. There are some challenging jumping sections that can be bypassed if you fly, as one would think. The thing about the flying, and I make so much emphasis on it because it's so much fun, is that it controls more like a tank in the air rather than anything else. You'll propel forwards into whatever you've got before you for a definite time, and then veer left, right, up and down depending on where you're aiming your head. It's a handful the first few times, but once you get the hang of it, it feels incredibly rewarding. So, the 3D collectathon is fun to move in, what else? The worlds are reduced in quantity but not detail, they're small food themed dioramas for the most part that are quite cohesive in execution. There's rivers and oceans of milk, floating cookies, fruit tarts and wafers, and all of them look very tempting and cute. So, the game's fun to play through and cute to look at, what else? Look, I don't want to extend myself more than necessary. Super Candle World was as long, or short, as it needed to be, and I see myself doing another 100% completion run just because of how entertaining it was the first time around. You have all your mobility options from the get go, so it would be interesting to see if I can have a much stronger start, leading into a shorter completion time just as a personal challenge. It's very accessible, challenge wise. Newcomers will have ample space and no big punishment to learn, and veterans have a short and sweet romp to invest an afternoon in. Plays super well on Steam Deck. For more reviews of games that are cute, or creepy, or both, please check my curator page: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/44079361/
This bright and airy collectathon is great value, and like many 3D platformers, mildly infuriating. Probably in a good way, but nonetheless please make sure any breakable windows aren't too near your joypad reach. Basically, if you distil the harder collectibles from something like Super Mario World and put them into a Katamari-looking world you get a fun, and tough casual little time-sink that will make you grit your teeth like an 8-bit platformer with all the problems of a 3D world, but all the dopamine of succeeding in such a game. The dev's done a good job, cheap 3D is not easy, but it has full camera control and mostly a logical progression and some nice touches throughout. Obviously the camera will occasionally make you seethe as you fail and make a minor manual correction, and it probably could be nicer about teaching you the functions and abilities you have (there's no tutorial or controls edit to see what buttons do, until you're told) But once I got over the self-hatred I get every time I play this kind of game I got right into it and am persevering more than I expected to, so despite some flaws it's a big recommend, and especially at the base price
Short and Sweetish
I'd like to start this review by saying I received a key for this game from the developer. Super Candle World is a short but sweet 3D platformer collectathon. It doesn't do anything special, and has a couple little problems, but for $3 I think it's a perfectly fine way to spend an hour if you're a fan of the genre. It controls well, has some fun levels, and I had fun collecting every single golden cookie in the game. The game is broken up into individual levels where you have to collect a few golden cookies. These can be hidden behind doors you need to open by collecting candies, or behind platforming challenges, or even a boss fight. The levels are perfectly sized for a game like this, allowing you to explore and find the secrets without it feeling like a chore. The game controls surprisingly well. You can run, jump, hover, and fly, and this is the games main issue. Flying makes the game's platforming sections an absolute joke. You can skip 90% of the platforming in this game by flying. Now obviously you can just choose to not take advantage of this which is what I did, but if you wanted to, you could skip whole sections of levels by flying. There are some sections built around flying through rings, so why not just put a flying powerup at these sections and take away the flying from the rest of the level? If you choose to not abuse the flying, there's actually some decent little platforming sections. I also liked how there were 2 2D levels, which changed things up a little bit. My final issue with the game is the overworld in which you get from level to level, and the poorly designed boss of the game. Firstly, the overworld is this small sphere you sail around to go from island to island to access the levels. This isn't an awful idea, but all the random land masses, can make this a pain to navigate. Not a deal breaker, just an observation. Overall, Super Candle World is a perfectly adequate little collectathon that's reasonably priced and a game I had fun with. Is it going to change your life? Absolutely not, but I enjoyed it, and that's what matters at the end of the day. If you want a quick and charming little game, you can do a lot worse. The premise is simple. You play under the command of a king who asks you to collect all the golden cookies scattered across a charming pastry world, and honestly, that is all the motivation you need to get going. After finishing the first stage, which gently teaches you all the basic moves, you open a ship. With it, you can sail around a small round planet and enter different stages. There is still a sense of progression, since some stages require a certain number of golden cookies to unlock. Your little candle character controls like a capable platforming hero, with a few extra abilities that make the game especially welcoming for beginners or anyone looking for a relaxed experience. Jumping is the core of movement, and it can be chained into smaller hops to reach distant platforms, or held down to glide higher. There is an invisible energy limit that keeps you from flying endlessly, but it feels generous and instantly refills when you touch the ground, which keeps the pacing smooth and forgiving. You also have a spin move that helps deal with the occasional enemy and break certain obstacles. What really makes things easy, though, is the dedicated flying ability. It runs on visible energy and can be combined with your jumps, letting you soar over or around many of the platforming challenges. It feels a bit like having a safety net at all times. Each stage revolves around finding golden cookies hidden inside chests. The game clearly shows how many cookies are in a level, so you always know if you have found everything. Most chests are easy to spot, but a few are tucked away behind breakable objects or only appear after defeating enemies or a boss. The stages themselves are delightful and colorful. Each one is a small island made of fruit, pastries, and other sweet treats, surrounded by water. Water is the only hazard, but even that is very forgiving. There is no health system, no lives, and no real punishment. If you fall, you simply respawn on nearby solid ground. Alongside cookies, each stage is packed with collectible candy. There are around one hundred pieces per level, and collecting them all is necessary if you want every cookie. This is because some doors require a certain amount of candy to open. These doors lead to short platforming challenges, and once you grab the cookie inside, you are conveniently teleported back to the entrance, so there is no need to repeat anything. In the end, the game is short and easygoing. You can complete it in a couple of hours, gathering around sixty cookies in total, including some hidden on smaller, less obvious islands. There is no big reward or achievement waiting at the end, but the journey itself is light and pleasantly stress free.
This was a fun game. Colorful, vibrant, made me hungry for sweets and was cheerful! Thanks to my furry friend for getting me the game. Keep up the good work developer!!!
I wish there was a neutral button for reviews. This game is fine, its nothing special but also not bad however it has one very big issue: It has too much movement. Allowing players to fly makes pretty much all of the platforming irrelevant. This can be very easily fixed by taking away fly and putting a little platform that allows you to fly at the few spots where you need flight and suddenly this game would be much more fun.
