Streets of Chaos

Don't pay much for this one. It's worse than using a web page. It actually feels like a webpage. It's like a crime simulator thing where you manage your little gang and try to take over the streets... But it's just too simple. You hire a goon, costs X amount of money, you give him a job, hit 'end turn', random event happens, either loses money or gets thrown in jail, etc. Try to take over streets which just puts a little checkmark on that street, you at no point even see an animation. You can see all of the possible images in the folder which the game installs to, it's basically a randomly generated set of faces, names are a text file, you see the sound effects.. Still with the "action adventure" thumbnails from where they were sourced.. It has to INSTALL to a non-Steam folder to run! Wow! AND IT ASKS TO RESTART YOUR COMPUTER. It's the first game I have ever seen that recommends this. I didn't restart, and it ran fine, I suppose it is for "rare" cases as the developer has said. Sometimes I click the "play" button and it asks to install again. I can reproduce it: even though the installer says clearly that we will be able to click the "play" button and it won't ask anymore, but if you are in steam's "detail view" and click "play" it will ask to install again. Every time. Just the overall quality here is non existant. Would it be too hard to ask for a developer to make animations? I honestly thought this was going to be a 3D game (but didn't think anything of it, since it was in a bundle) and when I boot it up it's basically a turn based text game with a few images on it. The weapons don't even have images, they are just lines of text in a file. If you WANT a game like this and get it for cheap (almost free!) you may enjoy yourself. Personally, I wanted to leave a review so people don't buy it for $3 or whatever is retail expecting it to be a perfect game. It's not. It's sloppy.

Note: This review is based off the current price of $0.99. At this price point, I find the game recommendable to fans of strategy games, especially if you enjoy mobile strategy games. Also, I received this game for free during a giveaway event for Indie games, but have no affiliation or business relationship with the developer of this title. The game is very humbly designed, with small snippets of music during key moments, image stills to depict gameplay and progress, and a straightforward title, intro, and progress. One Gripe of Broken-ness: Every time you load it up, it will ask you to install the game. You only need to install it once, and can "Exit" every time after that. It's annoying. That being said, for the price it costs, this game is far more complex than I would expect. Much of this review weighs heavily on that price. There's a lot of variety, and the game supplies a good bit of random-factor with "luck"-based rolls of events, debuffs/buffs, and character choices. However, the game does allow you to strategize and be smart with your decisions regardless of what it throws at you. I began a game nearly broke and almsot done, and was able to reign victorious by the end based on how quickly I learned what the game wanted me to do to achieve victory. Granted, I could have just as easily lost if I got some worse rolls than I had, but it wouldn't have been a wipe anyway, once I understood the game. It's a turn-based game, and I would highly advise you check out the tutorial which is more like an instruction manual. It supplies you with valuable information and understanding of gameplay that you'll need to take on each match you play. Finally, please know that you have to treat this game like a mobile game at its price point, and expect it to play similar to a mobile game. You're only ever pointing and clicking, but you're choosing where to point and when to click, dictating your stance before the next roll from the game. If you've played better games at $0.99, I wouldn't be surprised, but for this price, I personally was impressed. I'd rather play this than solitaire, for example, when I've got some small time to burn. Also, you can save your progress so even if your game is lasting a while, you don't have to worry about leaving as you can pick up where you left off next time. Tags: Tycoon&Simulator&Sim&City Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Browser-grade overmap turn based ressource trader. Does not install cleanly, separate wizards and manual reboot. No proper fullscreen. Very limited audiovisuals. Review: Games does not install cleanly. When lauched from Steam it started a separate install wizard. When *that* was done I got a pop up saying as reboot of Windows was required (wtf). Does not fullscreen correctly. Barely any audio assets. Barebones visuals. Ressources collected are cryptic, such as corruption and blood, and such ressources have flavor text that makes no sense "boss I looked everywhere on that street and found 1 corruption under a rock". Game constantly throws pop up at you about guys getting arrested whom I am fairly certain were not even my guys. Game is a bunch of hotspots that act as ressource gathering nodes, and are defended by a math value that you must overcome by expending turns and assigning crews from your roster. Very indirect gameplay, equations governing success and failure are shrouded in mystery and give a distinct clunky feeling when in operation. The setting is also unclear, you have to take things over with chaos. So not sure if this is supposed to be a revolutions simulator, or if you are part of the mob. The game gives you an option to search for Frederick Ross at every hotspot you capture. Who is frederick ross and why you would send your guys looking for him I have no clue.
