Re-Visited Impressions // Rift S // RTX 2070 Super: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uv89CiZ_fpo If you look at this title more like a fun fair ride, not a game, then its worth the price. You also get a cool FREE documentary which is highly worth a watch. My Quick Thoughts: I had the pleasure to play this game last year and it has a really unique element. No controllers are needed as you use voice commands to control your ship. This was suppose to be a much bigger project but financial woes forced the developer to keep this as more of a VR experience, sort of like a fun fair ride. This game is worth it just for the FREE Documentary that you get that shows you the struggles a game developer faces in 2020. Strange enough these same factors also faced developers way back in 1995 as you can see in my video.
This game is fun but really, REALLY short. I was honestly surprised when the credits rolled, it felt like there was going to be more. Like what most are saying, really feels more like a tech demo than a short game. If there was another 20 minutes of content the price would be a little more justified.
Starship Commander: Arcade reminds me of those VR motion rides they have stuck in the back of Dave & Buster’s arcade; you know the one where there is the attendant wiping out the pink-eye from the VR goggles between rides before the next group of VR-curious gamers climb aboard a hydraulic bench and get tossed around. Well, for only $8 you can bring this experience home, hopefully without the pink eye and definitely without the motion control furniture. There are some good ideas lurking about this tech demo but it is far from becoming a worthy addition to your VR library. Interesting idea, valiant effort, utterly missed the mark, Twice the issues of voice recognition phone support, half the utility. Discoverability for what you can say is awful, response options are limited, sometimes listening for too precise a phrase ("disengage engine lock" doesn't work, only "disengage THE engine lock". And your choices have almost no impact.
Voice recognition is not properly responsive and the game don't give you any information on the commands. With 75% discount ~2$ its good demo experience with ok visuals.
10-15 mins Experience with Immersive Human-like interact
You can judge the price for a 10 - 15 mins interactive movie. Unless you want to support the dev and innovation. This game doesn't need a controller, Instead, use your microphone to talk to the narrator and command the ship(very few command). The conversation will surprise you for a bit, the game seems to reply even when you discuss irrelevant topic. Lack of replayability. It is the same mission over and over, unless you are lonely Tho this game seems to have only barebone. By the time I play I had quite a good time. I would love to play more mission or more game like this in the future would be great. Similar Vibe : Star Trek : Bridge Crew That's why the title is "Arcade" folks. 7/10 ✮✮✮✰✰
C.J. Maboo
Very cool and unique experience. was fun to play even without the VR and experience a game where you dialog your way through the experience. Wished it was longer of course... but the VR documentary made up for it. Was probably the best part TBH because it takes an inside look at VR development and the VR Industry as a whole.
It wasn't bad. I should've read it's more of a tech demo than a game, but for what it's worth its actually pretty good. Granted buy this on a major discount as there is only about 20-30 minutes at most of gameplay. A few things could've been better but the concept is great and put down well. All in all buy on a discount for a few minutes of fun. It has non vr support now to so anyone can play it with a mic.
Played on the Valve Index Worth it. Even though the experience lasts 10 to 15 minutes, this is totally worth the price. Basically you sit in the cockpit of a ship with wonderful visibility around you and command your ship to complete a series of simple tasks using voice commands, which are guided by your wingperson (need a better more inclusive term here as wingman does not apply). Battle is managed by aiming with your sight, and leaning left or right to avoid danger (limited to small parts of the experience but works. More than a game this is really just a showcase of what VR games could be like with the implementation of voice assistant like technology to VR. There is only one mission to complete and it is definitely too short, but it will be a go-to app for showcasing VR once I can finally have friends over again...
