Starlight Shores

Bought this on itch and bought it again when it was on sale on Steam to support the dev. This is a lovely story with beautiful visuals, very dialogue heavy but in a good way as it focuses on character development and getting to know everyone well by the time you reach the ending.My only complaint is that I'm not a fan of how the text displays by fading in rather than the typical visual novel that just displays based on words per second, but that's a minor dislike in comparison to the happy feelings I have towards this game overall.

A short, but wonderful novel and DEFINITELY worth a read!

I went into starlight shores with the hopes of enjoying a graphically appealing Visual novel, However I was quite surprised at just how much I would enjoy it. The soundtrack was absolutely incredible and it set the tone allowing me to become far more emotionally invested into the characters and their personalities than I ever thought I could, Each character had their own personality which made each attempt replaying the game to complete the gallery fresh and rewarding. The graphics were absolutely stunning and the character design was pristine. In summary Starlight Shores was incredible and perfectly demonstrates just how amazing visual novels can be, I would definitely recommend Starlight Shores to both visual novel Veterans and amateurs alike.

[h1]Technicalities[/h1] Starlight Shores is a visual novel developed and published by Delphinium Interactive and it is their first visual novel released. According to the visual novel database, Starlight Shores is on the same setting as Tidal Blossoms, another title Delphinium is a developer of. Although, at the time of this writing, Tidal Blossoms has not been released so I won’t be able to make a comparison. This visual novel is short and can be completed in about 90 minutes but be aware that there are more content than that. The developer advises readers of mature content in Starlight Shores. Although, there are no explicit adult content, this visual novel uses drinking games as a storytelling technique and mentions some sexual references which might cause some readers discomfort. The characters depicted in this visual novel struggle with a history of depression and anxiety so readers should be aware before continuing. [h1]Quality[/h1] Quality-wise, the background art is amazing and appears to be native 1080p. The character designs, however, is mediocre and wasn’t very appealing if we’re comparing it to major titles. No characters are dubbed in this visual novel. As for the music, it portrayed a peaceful aura that best matches the peaceful beachside at night. Experience-wise, it’s not a very good one. The character sprites enlarges whenever he/she speaks. This might be annoying at first but I can understand the sprite enlargement because it’s one way of telling the viewer “this character is speaking” because this visual novel is not dubbed. The names of the characters are color-coded and while the idea itself isn’t bad, the choice of the colors used isn’t good and looks more annoying to the eyes. The lines transition by a slow fade in and a cut out. The slow fade is a big turn off for me and kept throwing me off as I read Starlight Shores. [h1]Plot[/h1] Starlight Shores is kind of like a one-shot manga. After the introduction, the plot happens within the same time period at the same place. Starlight Shores features Will, the main protagonist, in this one-shot visual novel. The other characters include Theo, Lena, Alec, and Erika. Theo is Will’s childhood friend, Lena is Theo’s best friend, Alec is Will’s friend, and Erika is Alec’s girlfriend. Theo invited them to a weekend stargazing at a peaceful beachside. At least, until Erika suggested to play drinking games. It’s worth noting that Starlight Shores is not a kinetic visual novel. The abundance of dialogue choices which can either land in a good end or a bad end with either Theo, Lena, or neither. This also makes Starlight Shores have a good replayability as different choices allows the reader to learn more about the characters or explore different endings. The choices not just affect Will’s relationship with either Theo or Lena. It may also affect Alec’s relationship with Erika. What I like the most with how Starlight Shores is written is that it’s the same plot from start to finish with different endings. [h1]Conclusion[/h1] Too soon? The visual novel is short and there isn’t so much to discuss. Despite being a first-time developer in the visual novels scene, Delphinium Interactive did a great job on the presentation of Starlight Shores most especially when they employed drinking games as a way of presenting the characters’ stories. I look forward to seeing more of their titles but I hope they address experience-impacting features present in Starlight Shores. I recommend Starlight Shores to those who like short stories but don’t mind with some of the features impacting the reading experience.

Amazing story and beautiful art! I always loved to read through visual novels and Starlight shores is a masterpeice. Amazing art style and a great story (despite being short). In a short time you really get to connect and almost feel bound to the screen. I bought it yesterday, and I was completly unable to stop before I knew how it would end. Choices matter, and I adored the ending I achieved! Totally need to replay it to see where other choices might lead me!

Hang out with your buds on the beach! Starlight Shores is a surprising little gem. There are many choices that branch out sometimes in surprising and oddly satisfying ways, so if you like your visual novel with that style, this one checks that box. However, all events take place in the span of one day in basically one location. It's a condensed tale but is written very well. I fell in love with the entire cast by the end of two playthroughs and I still have more of the gallery to unlock so I'll be diving in again soon!

Starlight Shores é uma boa visual novel. Ela tem vários finais, alguns bons e outros ruins. This is definitly a cute little read, but it can take a dark/sad turn depending on your choices. If you're in the mood for a short visual novel with romantic elements, this one should satisfy! I love how all the characters are drawn. Give this a try!

This slice-of-life VN may be on the short side, but it's length makes it no less impactful. Story takes place over less than a full day, with a simplistic background beach party plot deceiving it's many intricate and poignant branching narratives. And the branching system is also very well developed. Choices generally foregoing a good, bad, or even gray pretext; but rather just providing different avenues for discovery... and resolution. So the mechanics already set this VN above average. But what makes it stellar IMO is the writing. The dialogue from all characters is so natural and organic, full of wit and charm. They may fill the role of a certain trope but not in any over-exaggerated way. So when it does come time ramp up the feels, by being so relatable the empathy hits that much harder. The many choices leading to a succession of roller coasters, from heartening to harrowing with a finale of heartwarming. [spoiler] Or perhaps even devastating [/spoiler] As per the CG's the characters are quite cute, though sprinkled in are some very striking backgrounds. And really must give a shout out to [url=https://soundcloud.com/alcaknight] Alcaknight [/url] for the BGM, their piano melodies truly supplementing the entire experience. If there's any flaw in this work it's only that there's not more of it. At one point when the MC is speaking of his career aspirations he says: "If I could help someone achieve their dream of being a published author, that would almost be as good as being published myself." That line struck with me, as it's in finding these indie gems that I enjoy giving these glowing and deserving reviews!
