About

In Starbound, you create your own story - there’s no wrong way to play! You may choose to save the universe from the forces that destroyed your home, uncovering greater galactic mysteries in the process, or you may wish to forego a heroic journey entirely in favor of colonizing uncharted planets.

Settle down and farm the land, become an intergalactic landlord, hop from planet to planet collecting rare creatures, or delve into dangerous dungeons and lay claim to extraordinary treasures.
Discover ancient temples and modern metropolises, trees with eyes, and mischievous penguins. Make use of hundreds of materials and over two thousand objects to build a sleepy secluded cabin in the woods, a medieval castle, underwater arcade, or even a space station.

Starbound has been built from the ground up to be multiplayer and easily moddable. You have the tools to make the universe your own and modify the game to suit your play style - add new items, races, planet types, dungeons, and quests - the possibilities are limitless.

Add-ons
Each DLC is estimated with the same model as a game, then summed — a modeled figure, not reported DLC sales.
Sums Steam only; Xbox, GOG publish no volume signal, so the true total is higher by an unknown amount.
Updates
Build ids and update times come straight from Steam's PICS — the same source SteamDB reads. Patch history grows as we record new builds.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Poland over the last 30 days: the 21 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 12 places towards #1, and the 2,501 moves with no price cut behind them went 1 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Game feels boring. Only played it a while with mods ina friend's server, and eventually got bored because there wasn't much offered. Feels like a failed Terraria Space game.
Have you ever played Terraria? Played some No Man's Sky, perhaps? Well, Starbound is the lovechild between those two that got abandoned on a dark, rainy night. Abandoned in the sense that... The last substancial update was before the pandemic. Then again, the devs considered it “finished”, so who am I to judge.
I guess the founder/director of Chucklefish ran out of underaged “volunteers”.
As stated, Starbound looks and plays like Terraria, but has the athmosphere and setting of NMS. Star systems and planets are procedurally generated, all of which containing randomly generated biomes, sometimes with structures... Even the weapons and creatures you find there are procedurally generated. There are some survival aspects, mainly just being hungry sometimes, but i never bothered with any real “survival” stuff. You can also play as 6 different races who have their own themes, such as:

Humans (Society if ... meme (but who tf would wanna play as a human, ew))
Florans (Unga bunga plant people)
Apex (Futuristic tech monkeys)
Avians (Egyptian birds)
Glitch (Ye olde clanker)
Hylotl (Samurai fish)
Novakids (Yee haw star-people)
Starbound also has a main story to follow, although it is... Repetitive, to say the least. All you do in said ‘main story’ is: [olist]
Scan some furniture relating to a race
Do a dungeon with a boss at the end
Enter the next tier of progression (Upgrade your 'pickaxe', get better armor, weapons, tools and crafting stations, etc.) [/olist] And repeat that about... 5 times. Yeah, I'm not really making it seem all that interesting, am I? Well, the game also has base-building aspects. Which... If I'm already making comparisons to Terraria, well... yeah, no ♥♥♥♥ it's gonna have base-building. You have two options when it comes to building a base. Either you work on making your spaceship look nice, or you can build bases on planets. Unfortunately, you don't get to make your OWN spaceship in vanilla. You get a pre-made, indestructable ship that you can expand using upgrades. The most you can do with ships is change the background walls, build with some blocks in rooms, and add furniture. While the gameplay may be lacking in some departments, the music on the other hand, absolutely does NOT fail to deliver. Some personal recommendations I have are:

Europa - It sounds so serene, like running your hand across tall grass as your worries become left behind.
Starbound (or Title Menu) - Nostalgic af to me.
The Ruin's Surface (or Crystal Battle 1) - Still gives me chills years later, especially 2:18.
On the Beach at Night - Has to be like... the most iconic Starbound track, ever.
So, if you decide to play Starbound, maybe ♥♥♥♥ around in vanilla for a bit to get a feeling for the game, but please for the love of God play modded. The singular reason why this game's community isn't completely dead is because of the mods. Speaking of which, Starbound mods are where I first discovered that Protogens exist. ...I was eight, I didn't know any better... I thought they looked cool, man... (btw, if you want a mod recommendation, I'd suggest Frakin' Universe. It's like the Calamity Mod equivalent for Starbound.) The vanilla game also has some side-content besides the whole main gameplay loop, such as bounty hunting (which i never did), or some post-game dungeons, but I'd still recommend the modding scene way more. Even then, I'm still pretty biased towards the game, and will always remember it fondly. So... Thanks, Starbound.
Très bon jeu à ne pas speedrun, prendre son temps, cependant il est possible de rester sur sa faim tellement le jeu à du potentiel.
Bora jogar com os amigos moçada! Jogo é bomzinho.
Неплохая игра
Terraria adlı oyunun uzay versiyonu :D
неплохая игра, но гринд ачивки лучше делать через чит панель, ибо количество фарма и потраченного на него времени будут неадекватно большими
