Muss man z.B. Squishies are actually small squeezable children's toys, similar to stress balls. Which have also been suspected of being poisonous. But that is not the point here. Squishies the game, reminds of an old hit from childhood days on the Amiga, Marble Madness. Just like back then, you have to get your character over obstacles on a floating platform to the finish line. The biggest difference is not only that Squishies is played in VR, but with spherical colorful squishies that are steered across the playing fields with the help of two fish hair dryers. The world of Squishies consists of 100s of individual levels, all full of traps and chasms that lead to water or lava pools or to nowhere. Since the little chubby stress balls can't walk by themselves, they are too fat, they have to be moved with our help. For this we use our two fish blow dryers. Blow air to move them forward and suck air to pull them back. These are the only ways to guide the thick balls across the levels. At the beginning the game is quite simple. We are first familiarized with the mechanics of the game. Then it gets really crazy, when for example the coordination of several squishies is needed, or nasty critters appear, which see the round squishies as a food source. Furthermore, goodies like hidden eggs distract the player from the intended path. None of this is made any easier by the gameplay. The fish hair dryer can only be on or off, which makes it somewhat difficult to steer precisely around corners, for example. Edges are also difficult to bridge. For example, if you have to press switches, they are often on pedestals and you have to blow neat bubbles to get the dimwitted critters over the edge. Squishies is controlled with both arms, we can rotate the playing field, adjust its height or scale it. We move across the map by reaching into the air and pulling the room towards us. This all sounds quite comfortable, but since we constantly have our arms in motion, and of course we can move around the virtual table in real life if there is enough real playing space, it often happened to me that I collided with reality. Unfortunately, the game also shifts the marking of the center of the playing area in space, so you can't really rely on it. So players should select a noticeable color in the VR settings in steamVR beforehand. When finishing a world, time and collectibles as well as rescued squishies are scored and items for the level editor are unlocked. Player-created levels can be shared with the community. There are also some cool levels to admire already. The editor is simple and intuitive, unfortunately better than the controls of the main program. The creative editor alone is actually worth giving Squishies a chance, despite the somewhat botched controls. A nice not-so-simple but family-friendly skill game. I love this game! It's very easy to start, the controls are simple and intuitive enough to get going right away with very little time invested. The levels are fun to play, there are a lot of nice gimmicks along the pathes. Really lovely art style with nice attention to detail, each Squishy even shows a different moods. Makes me smile whenever I zoom up close into the world. The simple game mechanics of sucking and blowing the Squishies through the landscapes is easy to do, but if you want to reach every extra it can get tough in a nice way. With level progression the difficulty is rising, but in a manageable fashion so far. New puzzle elements add complexity, but I feel in control, even within tougher levels. That's also due to a well coded steering system. The checkpoints are placed in a fair distance to one another, no real frustrations so far. So, if you want a VR puzzle platformer that's very balanced and nicely made, I'd say Squishies is for you!
1st Impressions Video with Commentary! // Oculus Rift S // GTX 1060 (6GB): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pz4v25s1xMY My Initial Thoughts: A cute isometric puzzle game with lovable characters that reminds me of classic games like Marble Madness, minus the tilting.
Nice game! It makes an interesting use of VR by requiring you to blow air on the Squishies to move them around. There is an interesting and large variety of puzzles, with all kinds of dynamics, and the ability to design your own puzzles. The VR environment is nice and comfortable for people like me that have motion sickness. The only negative on this front is the intermission screens, which are intensely uncomfortable, but I can just close my eyes for two seconds.
To be perfectly honest I was a little bored of this game by the third of fourth level, this is however no fault of the game itself, I'm just not the target audience for it. Regardless, it deserves a little bit more hype and awareness than what it seemingly has at the moment; this is a proper VR game, as opposed to a game that you happen to just play in VR, and there's not enough of these. This is much more of a kids game than anything, while it didnt hold my interest for very long it is one of the most refined and well made VR games available. For children under 15 this would be a must play as that age range would enjoy this the most I think. The way you scale, rotate and move the environment in particular was really well implemented, I think I spent more time messing around with the map than actually playing the game. The gameplay itself revolves around using the controllers to blow or suck air the titular squshies to navigate them through the environment. Its cute, charming, very well made and even though it wasnt for me personally I recommend it to anyone with children around. Although not specifically listed as supported, I had zero issues playing this with the Quest 2.
Very nice relaxing game. Controls are intuitive and precise. I like especially the option to scale the world on the fly with grip buttons. Bought on sale, totally worth so far. Hidden gem.
please help, I got this message " initialization of the Oculus SDK failed " what can I do or how to fix this error . because I am unable to play this game with my Oculus Quest 2 via Virtual DeskTop Streamer .. thank you for your help .. (update) I am able to play this game with the Oculus Link. it worked good with the Link. this is a fun joyful game to play, I enjoy it very much. I do recommend this game to everyone. It is a beautiful game. thank you to the developers of this game. they did a great job. thank you again.
Doesn't work with Oculus Quest 2.
Played with Quest 2 with Air Link This game is 100% worth your money, I love VR games and have played many of them of all types and qualities, Most VR games are way to short or lacking certain polish, so when I saw the price, I had low expectations, but I was super wrong, the game feels great, plays great for what it is and it gets difficult enough even in the first world, is probably one of my Top 25 VR games, which I wasn't expecting at all, simple family friendly fun.
