I thought I would buy it again after playing through it in my younger days. Sure it is low tech compared to today's fare and the puzzles are rather dated. It was still fun, but not like it was way back then. Still, if you can pick it up cheap, and can put up with a game from yesterday with low res fmv then give it a shot. 5/10
I absolutely adored this game back in the day and it still holds up though the nostalgia factor is strong and very much influences it. This game really got me into everything to do with intelligence and counter-intelligence, and of course made it so I simply had to play other games in the genre right up to the 'hacking' games of modern times. The people involved are fascinating too, a KGB Major General and former DCI (under Presidents Nixon and Ford, and was replaced by (later VP and President) H.W.Bush as DCI) William Colby who actually died 2 months after the games release with some suspecting foul play. If you enjoy films like Clear and Present Danger, and others like it you'll get into this. If you're not an old fart or it's been a while since you have played mid-90s FMV point and click games you'll need to be a little patient, and maybe look up a walkthrough. But it's absolutely worth your time.
Interesting Concept, however the game interface feels too outdated, also I found a bug that blocks my advance in the game.
Love this game! Brings back a lot of great memories. Definitely worth the purchase!
Spycraft: The Great Game is one of those games that does not just remind me of the past. It kicks the door open, walks in wearing a cheap 90s suit, and says, “Remember when you finally had your own proper computer and thought you were basically running international intelligence operations from a desk?” Because I remember. This was one of my favourites on my first computer as a real grown up. Not a family computer. Not something you had to negotiate time on. Mine. A serious machine for serious adult purposes, like word processing, pretending to organise my life, and sinking a medically concerning number of hours into a full-motion video spy game. And honestly, Spycraft still has something. Yes, it looks old. Of course it does. It has that beautiful Windows 95 energy where every screen feels like it was built by someone who smoked indoors and trusted floppy disks with national security. The interface is clunky, the video is grainy, and the whole thing feels like a government training CD-ROM that accidentally became fun. But that is also the charm. This is not a game about sprinting through corridors with two pistols and perfect hair. It is a game about information. Watching footage. Reading files. Cross-checking details. Clicking through suspicious interfaces while feeling like you are one bad decision away from being briefed by a man named Doug who definitely knows where the bodies are buried. It makes you feel clever in that specific 90s way, where being good at a game meant paying attention, taking notes, remembering names, and occasionally wondering whether you were enjoying yourself or being recruited. The acting is wonderfully of its time. The plot is serious enough to pull you in, but strange enough that you occasionally pause and think, “This is either brilliant espionage fiction or I have spent too long alone with a beige monitor.” Either way, I’m in. Modern players may need patience. This is not slick. It will not hold your hand. It will not shower you with dopamine every twelve seconds. It expects you to sit down, pay attention, and do the work. Which is probably why I loved it back then. It made my computer feel like a portal into something bigger, darker, and far more interesting than whatever responsible adult thing I was meant to be doing. Spycraft is dated, awkward, clever, atmospheric, and still weirdly brilliant. They really do not make them like this anymore. And honestly, I’m not sure they legally could.
Activision <3
This is very very old school. I played this game back and the day! Ahhhh The memories! ITs pretty fun, a little hard at some points, but you get the hang of it! Kinda Pixelated, but we can live with it.
The game is just like the old one but now you dont have to change dvd's to play ;-) When you press play it launches a Dosbox and then the game popup on your screen. The graphics are good and sound and story is good. The video files are big and there are some black horisontal lines wich i asume is how it was designed back then to make the videos smaller to fit on as few dvd's as possible. Anyway not a big problem its an old game and i even think that is how it was back in the day anyway. I had 0 crashes or serious bugs, and you can solve most popup messages such as insert dvd with a mouse click and it continue without problems. ps.. remember to manual save the game since it do no do that automatic.. However you will be asked when you quit the game if you liket to save it ;-) All in all its the old game playable on modern computers.
Cool game.
