A genuinely fun platformer that captures the charm and absurdity of the original while giving it a modern facelift. From the vibrant environments to the satisfying movement and abilities, it nails that classic collectathon feel without becoming overly frustrating. One of its biggest strengths is how much of the original voice cast returns, which really helps preserve the show’s personality. That said, the few characters who were recast are noticeably bad (Mr. Krabs in particular doesn't sound like him at all.) breaking immersion at times, especially if you’re familiar with the original performances. Gameplay wise, it’s mostly smooth sailing, but there are moments where the game logic doesn’t quite hold up particularly when it comes to collectibles. Some requirements or placements feel unintuitive, making progression occasionally confusing rather than challenging. Where the game shines again is in its replayability. It’s great to experience with friends, whether you’re taking turns or just enjoying the chaos together. The robot boss fights are especially entertaining, offering a mix of spectacle and strategy that keeps things engaging. On a technical level, it performs excellently on the Steam Deck, running smoothly and making it a solid pick for portable play. Overall, Rehydrated is a faithful and enjoyable remake with a few rough edges. It’s not perfect, but for fans of platformers or SpongeBob in general, it’s an easy recommendation.
