Pros: -great fusion of puzzles into M3 levels -lots of content -easy to see playing tiles -cute scene to build Cons: - repetitive puzzle mechanic -110 M3 levels, 50 minigames -no new widgets The latest Spellarium has you helping Eric the wizard reign in the Dark Elements, who have decided to wreak havoc on a world by creating a huge black cloud trying to swallow everything. There just aren’t any other M3 games out there made by others which have anything like this developer’s unique gadgets and removing obstacles in a certain order to get all the coins. The 110 levels are about average in difficulty when compared to the other LGT SIA games and series. There are about 5-6 steps in each puzzle sequence in most cases, so not frustratingly difficult, but not baby easy like some of the Laruaville games. Some new playing tiles created for this game, and each playing piece seems carefully designed so as not to be confused with another piece or lacking in contrast. The coins are used to create new parts of the scene being built in between levels. Unlike earlier installments, this time there are no new obstacles or mechanics, which is both good and bad. Some of the earlier games featured widgets which sometimes caused crashes, and thankfully I didn’t see that here, but with only the game boards being new, also gives this game more of a DLC-package flavor. I discovered many of the solutions were repetitive: I can’t tell you how many times I put “use a rocket on the bug” in the walkthrough, or how many times I had to bomb the doves or envelopes. Couldn’t Eric use his magic to at least create a bird feeder to lure those poor birds off? There are a whopping 50 total minigames (20 mahjong, 10 jigsaw puzzles, 2 hidden object scenes, 8 spot the difference puzzles, and 10 higher-lower solitaire games) of which you get one after playing every 3 or so M3 levels. I will give kudos for the jigsaw puzzles now showing the finished picture all the time although fuzzier and less colorful when the puzzle isn’t solved yet, instead of the random mosaic pattern the last game featured; this made solving the jigsaw puzzles much easier, although still tricky. The mahjong layouts all looked pretty similar to one another, and the first solitaire game is the exact same “tutorial” one in every single LGT SIA release featuring solitaire minigames, so these 2 minigame types felt more like doing the same game over and over after a while. There is a level replay on demand feature in the scene building area, but this time, finishing the game glitches out the entire level replay section such that picking any M3 level or minigame gives you a random level. You have to use the scroll arrows at the top of the level to go to the level/minigame number you’re looking for. While I enjoyed playing, I’m a little worried that the Laruaville, Spellarium, and Cursed House series may be getting overdone to where you could pick your favorite theme and difficulty level of the 3 and play just that, as everything else will be “more of the same” only easier/harder. The number of minigames seems excessive as well especially since many of them are so similar.
its a good game-not as hard as previous ones but still entertaining I have played the whole series
LGT SIA is one of the best Match 3 game companies out there. The Spellarium series is very much like the Cursed House and Laruaville - a solid match 3 puzzle game. There are other games mixed in like find the object, card games, mahjong, etc. This is top tier quality compared to many of the super basic or pron match 3 games. The graphics are better in this game compared to earlier entries. There are a few minor differences, like power-up rockets created on the board can drop down with matches underneath them. The puzzles are very good and done differently than other entries. Are they majorly different? No. Do they need to be? Not really. I would buy it and enjoy it either way. If you're looking for a solid match 3 puzzle game, this is a very good game. Not that different, but very good.
