About
Speed Rally is a fast-paced, retro-inspired top-down racer that rekindles the spirit of the golden age of arcade driving. Drawing inspiration from ATARI and C64 classics like Rally Speedway and the Micro Machines series of the 8-bit and 16-bit era, it captures the essence of simple yet thrilling pick-up-and-play racing — tight handling, instant action, and that “just one more race” feeling.
Whether you’re chasing online high scores or battling friends in local multiplayer, Speed Rally delivers a modern tribute to those timeless mechanics — easy to learn, hard to master, and endlessly replayable.
Compete on a variety of tracks set in woodlands, deserts, and tropical islands. Choose from different car models and put your skills to the test in CPU races or time trial mode, where every millisecond counts.
Take on a friend in local multiplayer with two exciting modes. Play in split-screen or crank up the intensity with Penalty Mode, where both players race on the same screen—fall too far behind, and you're out!
Challenge yourself to master every track and push for the fastest lap times. Can you claim the top spot and become the ultimate Speed Rally champion?

5/10. A racing game where your accelerator is glued to the floor, but fear not you still have a brake. Ergonomically this is an improvement as occasionally tapping the brake is a lot nicer than getting a cramp in your hand holding the accelerator down (almost) all the time. But from a gameplay perspective the modulation of acceleration is a big part of what makes a racing game fun or skillful. And at least in this implementation, it doesn’t seem like the brake really gives the same level of finesse. That’s not to say that there is zero challenge or skill, but that success mostly hinges on memorizing the track layout so that you can oversteer or brake in anticipation of what is not yet visible on the screen. This is a fine dynamic for 40 minutes, but it’s hard to imagine wanting to play the game for much longer. It’s hard exactly to put your finger on why, since it seems to be competently made, but there are some hints that it may be leveraging quite a lot of assets to achieve its competency. For instance there are a number of power ups that you can pick up on the track, but they don’t seem to do much for you in a lot of cases. For instance there’s a gear icon suggesting car repairs, but absolutely no indication that your car can take damage that could be repaired. Most outrageously however is that the game offers a two player option but it seems to be the case that both players are controlled by the same joystick on the same game pad. Perhaps this bug just reflects a lack of testing game pads properly, but either way it doesn’t look great. There are also not that many tracks, and while they do demonstrably follow a different path they sure feel kind of interchangeable. In the end this game isn’t awful. Indeed ,I’m giving it a thumbs up because Steam doesn’t offer a meh option which is what it really deserves. But in all honesty I have some difficulty thinking of any person in particular that I would recommend this game to. There are just so many better more fun racing games. None of them however feature the “glued to the floor” accelerator, so if that sounds really awesome to you maybe this game is what you want.
Fun game. Better than expected. It's pretty well-made and brings some engagement that you want to play new lap better and better. But price is not competitive, tbh.
