Fun game. Riding the bike feels good and throwing papers feels good though they are a bit heavier than i'd like. Riding past mailboxes and loading a paper into them without slowing down feels badass. The game plays EXACTLY like Paperboy on the NES which is great if that is what you are looking for. The game centers on learning the pattern of the level (when cars come, which houses have dogs) and delivering to an ever increasing amount of houses along the street. You eventually move on to new neighborhoods with new obsticles to learn. The game in its current form is very fleshed out and gives you a lot to do as long as you consider what the core game is. If you think delivering papers on a virtual bike is boring, this game won't change your mind. If you want to relive the days of delivering papers on your bike, or found Paperboy on the NES fun, it s quite good.
Special Delivery - Paperboy in VR! Yes it is awesome!
So i got a psvr the other day and i brought Special Delivery, i really liked it but i had one issue, one let down, instead of throwing the papers by hand you used the paperboys powers of telekinesis to throw the paper where you were looking…. Not a bad way of doing it, but i wanted to throw the papers! Well in the pc version you can do just that! It is deeply satisfying when you get the papers in the box (you can also deliver them just to the victims errrr i mean subscribers yard, or via the front room window :) ) If you are unfamiliar with the original paper boy game then your school and or your parents have let you down! It is a classic of a game that first came out on the zx spectrum 48k(my first try of it was on the commodore 64…. Yeah i am that old) where you play a paperboy and the whole world is seemingly out to get you! You foil these attempts at your life (and even gas station hold ups) by throwing papers at them, while delivering them to your news papers loyal subscribers, this has been lovingly recreated in vr! ROOMSCALE / ENVIRONMENT/GRAPHICS The environments are bright and colourful, it works really well for this game and i confess to actually jumping back when i was hit by a car, and cringing as cars hurtled past on cross streets (yep in the great traditions of cyclists every where i did not stop at the crossings but hurtled through them with no regard for drivers) The decorations are abundant enough that the game feels well populated with out going over the top, and it is satisfying errrr i mean heartbreaking when you hit a little old lady with a paper, or send it hurtling through a window of the house you are supposed to deliver it to (somehow express front room delivery is not welcomed by this paper’s readers) Later on you can turn to go down side streets, so not just a linear path, and there is plenty of room to move about, just watch out for oncoming traffic! PERFORMANCE I had no issues here at all, and this is while recording in 1080 at at the same time. INTUITIVENESS You not only have several methods of control but you also have a tutorial that will teach you the basics, and allows you to perfect your chosen move scheme. I found the game to be very intuitive and you will be hurling newspapers at windows and little old ladies in minutes PROS:

Great atmosphere that captures and improves on the original game.
Actual terror on seeing a car heading straight for you.
Fair price, not cheap, but not expensive either.
Great controls and newspaper throwing ability
Developers that listen and respond to their players (this is sadly a rarity in this day and age)
CONS:

ummm none…. Really none.
Video: Originally the throwing mechanic was a little lackluster, the papers were heavy and our avatar had not been working out, the developers released a few beta builds on steam to get it just wait, this is the video of the last build where it is perfect and The Old Town Observer has stopped including a free lead bar with every issue! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZT-n-BXGyw VERDICT Loved paperboy as a child? Get this game! Love vr games ? Get this game! Own a vr headset? Get this game! This game shows how well classics can work when brought into VR by a passionate team of developers i highly recommend it, just make sure you are well within your chaperone bounds, don't punch a wall lol! note this review is based on the opt in beta build as of 16/06/17
This game is Paperboy from the Nintendo/Sega days of classic game - but in VR. It's got some bugs still, and the movement can take a little getting used to, but it's a pretty awsome game so far that I expect to get my money's worth out of.
IMO, If you loved paperboy in the days of old, do yourself a favor and get this if you have a vive/oculus and the appropriate motion controls. I was expecting another failed attempt at stealing an idea from an old game, and not putting any work or love in on getting it right. It could've been an easy cash grab. But no, this game is great, has good graphics, the controls feel right, and it's challenging. The people who made this game love paperboy, you can tell and it shows in the entire presentation. I like how holding both the handle bars slows you down. Holding one lets you steer with that hand, and throw the newspapers with the free hand. I love this game. It's the perfect blend of nostalgia and gameplay that remembers where they are borrowing from, and do their best to put you there and like never before. 9/10
nails the feel of paper boy perfectly if you are a fan of the arcade/console ports and are looking for something new this game is really cool
For better or worse, this game really nails that Paperboy feel. It is fun, quirky, and has a fairly steep learning curve. It was just as frustrating for me as the gameboy game, but over time I got better and started really enjoying myself. I'm looking forward to additional game mode(s), but so far I would say this is a fair amount of content for the price. The original Paperboy was probably 20-30 bucks. I'm having enough fun playing this that I might just go out and buy a second-hand excercise bike so I can have actual handlebars to rest my controllers on and that way I can burn some calories while playing and increase immersion. My compliments to the developers, this feels like a labor of love. https://youtu.be/opCwRQzPGTg
Loved the concept of this game, it just gave me motion sickness. If you have a strong stomach, it seems like it would be a blast. It just wasn't for me.
I loved paperboy when I was a kid. I hoped to relive those memories. The controls are so awful in this game I had to stop after a few minutes. Shame. Refunded. If the devs look at improving the way the bike steers I may return. I will keep an eye on it.
Stays true to the classic, including difficulty. Worth picking up at the price.
