Space Thinger

Overall 3/10. It's very difficult to aim the enemies. I can't believe that it was a spacecraft game. The ship technology is very outdated.

There is a good game in here, but two things need to be corrected: 1. Aiming is just off. Even so when you are trying to pick up items. There's so many times I've had to turn around in circles looking for the item I thought was about to get but instead it whooshs right past you. It throws off the gameplay momentum. Also, I know you can go into first person, but it doesn't seem to help. 2. Dear god, change the radar. I think I know what they're trying to do, but it just becomes confusing and frustrating. For $5, I know can't really complain but I think fixing this stuff could make this a pretty great space shooter instead of a "meh" .

Space Thinger is an exhilirating space dogfighter where you stay alive by destroying enemy ships and gathering raw material to mend your ship on the fly. It's fast paced, is slick to control and offers a focused arcade challenge. But it can make life a little difficult for the first time player. While trying to stay alive, you attempt to complete the level's mission objective, which generally involves following the purple dots on your scanner and either blowing something up, or collecting it. Do this enough times and you'll be rewarded. You heal your ship by collecting debris from destroyed ships and ore from asteroids - you need a bit of both to restore your ship's health, so you have to balance both "mining" (ie blasting) and actual combat. You can't rely too much on healing, though - the more collectibles you use up on healing, the less you have to spend on power-ups when you complete the level. Gameplay video, showing footage from three different levels: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPoFW_6Unoc You'll spend a LOT of time staring at the local scanner rather than the actual ship you're flying - this often contains more useful information than the main screen! It can be hard to pick out the purple dots from the red dots in a busy area, but once you've learnt to "read" the scanner effectively (along with the long-range scanner that places the same colour dots on the main viewer for a very short time), you'll be unstoppable. The in-game explanation of what you're doing is a little vague, so your first encounter can be confusing and needs a bit of trial and error to discover how to play. For instance, I was wrong-footed at how the mission objectives were actually optional, not the point of the game. Really, you just need to know that you complete a level by killing most of the ships that appear as red dots on your scanner. Then a portal will open for 30 seconds, which you escape into. If you fail to get there in time, you are penalised (you lose some of the stuff you've collected) and the gate will open again shortly. It'll probably take a few goes to get used to the (scarce) weapons you have, other than your vanilla infinite-ammo blaster. One's a very powerful missile, the other's a distraction to fend off homing missiles. But yeah, you hardly get any of those and you'll need to get used to using them in only the most demanding circumstances. Finally, picking up the debris and asteroid ore can be annoying. You'll need to hit them precisely to pick them up, and often (even when there's no threats around) you'll keep sailing infuriatingly close to them without actually getting them. But again, a little practice should get on top of this. So long as you're not put off by the rough edges and you manage to get a hold on the game, Space Thinger is great fun. A proper arcade dogfighter, with between-level powerups to earn for those who go the distance. It's not complicated - it does something simple very well. 4.0/10 - Dated Space Shooter Not a terrible game in itself. The graphics are okay, but very limited. Space is not vast or unique so this game can get boring more quickly than desired. Reminds me of N64 Starfox. Worth playing for the right price. The controls and radar are a serious problem. Really hard to control your ship and shoot down enemies!!
