Space Star - Heart of a Soldier

I'm surprised this game was completely ignored when it released. I've only played it for an hour so far but the game has pretty solid bones. Space Star is a small space exploration game with basic RPG mechanics. You're flying around space to try to find out how your friend died. That's about it! When you enter space for the first time, you're outside of a space station and just told to go. It doesn't give you objectives, it doesn't have a lot of icons on a minimap, and you are bombarded by enemy ships. It's a pretty hostile beginning! But that's also what made me want to try more of it. Once you get the hang of things, it's pretty neat! You can find coordinates to explore in the Secret Locations menu. You can just fly around and blow up other ships for money and XP. You can also just go in one direction to see what's out there, if you can survive the hazards. The learning curve and figuring things out reminded me of the feeling I had when I first played Star Control 2 back in the day. Don't get me wrong, I don't think this game is at the level of a Star Control game but there's enough going on and things to learn that it's pretty intriguing. I'm going to keep at it and see what's at the end. I'm glad I tried it out. Give it a shot. It's less than two dollars and everyone's lost more than that by having coins fall into the couch cushions. I hope the dev didn't get discouraged when this game didn't rocket up the charts. They have some good ideas and I'd like to see iterations and refinement of those ideas in future releases. Don't give up!
