great game! I hope we get a sequel
A hidden gem
I had this game on my wishlist for a while because I had heard that it wasn't particularly good, and I was pretty disappointed by the developers previous game, We Happy Few. I finally gave in and bought South of Midnight anyway and I am glad I did! It's a straightforward, linear action-adventure game that you can complete in 10-15 hours. It's good a good (if somewhat confusing at times) storyline, a nice gimmick where the cutscenes are rendered in a faux stop-motion style, and decent action. I was particularly taken by the set pieces. It's not often you see a game take place in the american south, at least not in this way. All in all, this is a solid 7/10 and a game I would recommend buying, at least on sale.
Good old school PS1/PS2 combat (prince of Persia, god of war, etc.) but that is the only "bad" thing I can say about the game. The visuals were amazing and I loved the story telling aspect of the game. It did feel like to much and gave a nostalgia story telling feel I've missed.
I've only played a little, but I am completely captivated by this story and I'm really digging the art style. It's a beautiful game and sort of reminds me of Wolf Among Us, though I'm not sure why. Maybe it's the art. I'm in love with Hazel and her relationship with her mom AND the mythology keeps me enthralled. I am super disappointed that Microsoft fired this team. It was a HUGE mistake! Keep getting rid of creative and hardworking people like this and your wallet is going to be empty really soon, Microsoft.
Vielen Dank für dieses schöne Ergebnis. Vor allen Dingen die immer fortwehrende Lehre über Menschlichkeit. Die Form der Erzählung ist weise gewählt. Bitte macht weiter so. Es freut mich, dass Ihr verstanden habt, wobei es im Leben wirklich geht. My Heartbeat goes on.
I loved the story and the music. I had some issues while fighting, like sometimes you need to stand at an exact angle to heal and others being stuck in a camera angle not seeing what hit me. But overall, I loved this game!
This was an excellent game in my opinion. It tells a story with a preset character and had vibes which I felt were reminiscent of Witcher 3 at times (hunting monsters, etc.). The difficulty was well balanced, I didn't encounter any clear bugs, and the graphics worked for me. There are some beautiful stages with lots of flowers and trees. I appreciate the soundtrack with songs written, just for the game plot, in various Southern styles. I appreciate that there is a black female protagonist and that the storyline intertwines with some sensitive areas of early US history. The game felt quite rich and immersive to me, like good art which is different than usual. The game touches on some very emotionally painful aspects of humanity while simultaneously making the game interesting and fun to play.
