Nestled in the heart of Tokyo, the quaint little aquarium, Manten Aquarium. Numerous urban legends have arisen from here. On the night of the full moon the waters turn to blood and man faced fish lurk within.

This was a really enjoyable horror visual novel, definitely gets very spooky at times.
enjoyable VN! might revisit it since i beat it the first time through. i remember liking the horror, liking the music, and the art is great. it's a short experience, but it's enjoyable!
Sound of Drop is a messy story with some positives that save it from being atrociously bad. Mayumi and her friend Himeno visit the mystery-surrounded Manten Aquarium. Then, Mayumi sees her younger sister Mari, who went missing there five years ago, and chases her throughout the aquarium, losing Himeno in the process. Afterwards, a series of strange phenomena occur, and Mayumi has to figure out what's going on, and save Himeno and Mari. Sound of Drop puts its protagonist Mayumi in a LOT of life-or-death scenarios, and it's up to the reader to correctly pick in the 50/50 to help her survive. Both because the story doesn't do the legwork of getting me to care about Mayumi or any of the other characters and because of the sheer amount of bad endings, these choices, and the resulting bad endings, aren't fun or exciting, they're tedious, and B-movie quality at best. Also, it even sometimes feels like the story is pulled off course just to forcibly insert another opportunity for a bad ending. Originally, Sound of Drop had only two true endings, but an update four years after its release adds two more and expands the story in other ways. I think without this new material, I would have disliked Sound of Drop even more. The new material focuses on the more interesting characters in the story who were glossed over in favor of Himeno in the original pair of endings. Still, a big issue with both pairs of endings (new & old) is that they don't feel different enough to even justify there being two endings. As I was wrapping up the final ending, I had the feeling that I had just read the same story—maybe presented slightly differently—four different times. There are a few positives to Sound of Drop. The music and artwork is nice. Again, I like the focus on the side characters in the newer endings. But overall, it's not great. Letterboxd review voice: It's like if they made one of those anomaly, spot-the-difference, friendslop games into a visual novel. 4/10

A well localized, self contained story, with great soundtrack. A solid introduction to horror VNs.
