[i] My Experience [/i] I found [b]Soul Searching[/b] when digging through Steam's "stealth" releases a few years ago. I can usually appreciate a good top-down stealth experience, especially if the game is free. But although [b]Soul Searching[/b] is competently made, I found the visuals to be ugly and the gameplay to be somewhat boring. I would agree with Steam user [i]Rat3l[/i] that the game could use a bit more complexity. Although perhaps at a different development "tier," I would recommend either [b]Moonshot - The Great Espionage[/b] or [b]Republique[/b] to players looking for solid free stealth experiences.

My brain hurt from too much puzzle

"Soul Searching" is a poorly made 3D rendered 2D top down stealth game... this comes across as a bit of a homework assignment or something, it's simplistic and unengaging. What do you do in the game? Take on the role of a ghost and move around various 3D rendered 2D levels, avoiding sight cones and things... yawn. This might go somewhere if the production values were higher and the narrative stronger... but that's not what's happening here. The graphics aren't great... that will understandably be a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
