This game gets way more hate than it should. Very good 2D sonic game. I wouldn't say it is better than the OGs or Mania but deserves its spot with them. The main reasons this game gets negative reviews is due to its price and multiplayer. I agree that a $50 price point for this game is ridiculous especially for the casual player who will only play through it once. I'd say $30 is a fair price. Multiplayer is atrocious especially for newcomers to the franchise. The game is so fast pace that it is almost impossible to work together and stay on the screen. Overall though this game has fantastic levels and decent boss designs. Screw the finals bosses though... they can eat my shorts
Sonic Superstars is incredible; it doesn't deserve any of the hate it got. It is literally packed with new content: Completely new stages Powers for each Emerald (it would have been amazing to see these in Frontiers or X Shadow Generations) Trip The new character is cute and charismatic I actually saw a lot of people badmouthing the game simply because her story mode is difficult—and sorry, but what’s the problem with increasing the difficulty? I played it and didn't even find it that hard; people really love finding problems where there aren't any. My only complaint is that the game is a bit poorly optimized, but aside from that, it’s GREAT—for me, it manages to be better than Mania.

I don't understand the hate on this game, sure it's not Sonic Mania but that was a once in a decade game made for old Genesis fans like myself (got my Genesis and all 3 sonic games upstairs as I write this). The bosses are a little long but generally challenging and fun imo. The stages in each act look great while feeling fun to zip around and explore the multiple paths. Replay-ability is there with multiple characters and exclusive stages. The game controls exactly like Mania while keeping a solid FPS. I did not play the battle mode yet, but I imagine it would be a great time with friends. If you can get this on sale for $20 and like 2D Sonic it's a no-brainer.
