Song Animals is barely a game, it's an art exhibition that's been dumped on Steam, presumably because the local art galleries took out a restraining order on the "artists" who had no other choice but to pay Valve $100 to dump this on Steam. Gameplay, such as it is, just involves plodding through various watercolour scenes as a crudely drawn dog thing and occasionally eating mushrooms, then having your PC crash because it's so badly made. There's very little in the way of gameplay here, it's hard to describe this as a proper game, and the intention is not to be a game, it's to show off some very mediocre high school art class dropout watercolours. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The game only displays in 4:3 pillarboxed aspect ratio. It's possible they developed this using an old CRT they found in a dumpster, or this game has been specifically designed for people gaming on PC's from 1995... either way, this isn't really acceptable in the modern era of PC gaming. Worse, the game displays both pillarboxed and letterboxed, so it displays only as a tiny postage stamp in the middle of the screen. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers. Something has gone quite wrong with the game design as the game crashed so badly it hardlocked my PC and I had to completely power cycle it to make it run. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. It's evident based on all the technical defects that no software testing was done here. This is free on Steam, but it's free because it's more of an art exhibition than a game, that was so poor in quality it could never be seen in a public gallery. There's plenty of great local galleries in every city that would offer a far better experience than this. And because it's not really much of a game, it's impossible to recommend.

Song Animals is a short adventure puzzle game, featuring a variety of strange and fantastic creatures on a quest to free their friends. Entirely hand-drawn, explore surreal worlds rendered in watercolour paints set to a relaxing ambient soundtrack and use the power of music to rescue your animal friends. A short and peaceful experience for fans of games like Botanicula and Machinarium.
It's good if you want to kill ten minutes. The artwork is not my favourite from this developer but that's in the eye of the beholder. The short story is sweet and the puzzles are simple. I wouldn't pay for this game, but for free it's a nice surreal experience. Also should note that you need to be able to distinguish between musical tones to play without referring to a guide -- if you're tone deaf, this game probably isn't for you.
Sweet! I found friends :D
simple fun experience with a heartwarming atmosphere
A profound meditation on the musical abilities of a goat and his imperilled chums. Excellent stuff.
Aside from a bug that crashed the game right before the end (which made me restart), it is a nice experience. Easy 100% Achievements.
